Ive just watched an item on the evening news and there is now whats termed, a 'Baby Fight Club'.
The club is encouraging children as young as 5 years to enrol to be taught Tai Boxing.
Is this encouraging kids into sport in order that they understand disciplines, enjoy sport and grow into responsible adults or is 5 years just too young to be engaging in this kind of activity?
You're not supposed to talk about it!!!!
But whilst you're there, did they mention manufacturing soap?

D'you know how many babies it takes to make a pint of baby oil?

I think it's partly a cultural thing Heln....
that, and an attempt at propagating future champions- and the only way that can be done is to start young.
I don't think its necessarily good to start things this young. Injuries can & do happen, despite the precautions undertaken.

i have looked into this as i could not believe it was happening in this country, how its allowed god only knows, there was one instance where a little girl of 5 was crying trying to get the ring and her father was shouting at her pushing her back into the ring to carry on getting hit by a girl almost 3 years oler than her and that a hell of a age gap when your 5, some of the footage of these fights that are in U tube and such sites are just appalling, and they are perfectly legal and happening in this country, i saw another clip where a child was walking upto the ring crying befor she even got in because she knew what was comeing, its illigal to fight dogs but not children, how can that be dunno

I have to admit my 1st reaction when I saw it on TV was, 'oh my god' but then I sat and thought about it and came to the conclusion if its run properly with strict guidelines then why not. Then I read NN's post and its quite worrying. It would seem the abuse has already started.
Have to admit Im still on the fence with this one dunno
Listen you lot, this has got to stop!
It's bad enough in areas like mine as it is.
There are be-hoodied hoodlems after my mobile, mooching around with waistbands around thier kneecaps!!!
Now I'll have to be wary of Ninja'd-up, ju-jitsu trained, nanchucka (?) wielding nippers springing from thier Maclaren Buggies after anything remotely 'milk-product based' that I should have about my person.
No No No!
So I'll be left bleeding on the floor, unable to call the emergancy services because I have no moby, after being physically and visually assaulted by youth, as they calmly stroll away.. arses in the wind... But I shall also have been robbed of my Milky-Bar... leaving me nothing to counteract the shock!
Deary me!

I luv you LP lol
I'm on the fence too until I have seen it tommorrow. I must admit though to more than a passing interest as my eldest's half brother is on it

 Hmmm... never had you down as a secret drinker Winchlette!!
lol I loved the Nappy Slapping comment.... Honest!
Ive just watched the 1st half of this.
Im no longer on the fence, Im not happy.
Personally, I think its more about the parents of these kids and they use their kids as a way of channeling their own aggresion.
One little girl was told not to cry before she went into a fight because it would ruin her make up mad
FFS what is this all about!
Im watching it too, the poor little girls face when she lost sad
I dont think this type of sport is a good idea for kids as young as that.

My opinion on Thai boxing and all the other types of ring/fight sports is this. I personally would not want to see any of my children having seven bells knocked out of them  However if one of my children asked me if they could learn something such as this then I would help them do that in a suitable environment and let them take it as far as THEY wanted to.

I also agree with your comments Fire. The operative word being THEY.
I feel some of the kids were being pushed by their parents and it wasnt a very comfortable thing to watch.
I was suprised to learn there are many different associations all with different rules. I would hope that contact sports involving kids as young as these, be regulated and monitored more in the light of this programe.
As a full contact MA competitor, I was aghast to see one of the kids fighting without headgear!
Our club has some pretty young, champion fighters. However, they all want to fight, and are not pushed into competing if they dont want to. The difference between Thai Boxing & a lot of Martial Arts is discipline. In most M/A's you learn about all the aspects of the sport. The onus in this programme was just fighting, and IMHO thats not healthy for kids.
And whoever dreamt up the notion of cage fighting for juniors- one of the most blood thirsty sports around- should be fecking locked in one & have the key thrown away mad
The more I think about the programe the more sickened I feel.
1,000 People paying £35 a ticket to watch 2 boys fighting.
Where is this money going?
Parents screaming at their children to kick 7 shades out of another child
No protective headgear. Brain damage isnt something that can be spotted like a broken arm or leg.
It wasnt that long ago that Parents lost their children because they videoed them fighting and then put it out on You Tube. What I watched last night wasnt that much different.
I think when used in this way, its sickening, its unregulated and its exploitative. I think they should raise the age to 11 as in conventional boxing and have regulated clubs with qualified instructors.
its sick,no way would i like my kid having the shite kicked out of him or him kicking the shite out someone else at that age..i had the channel on when the programe started and immediatly turned it off
