Call 0800 Kiss My Furry Arse!
I'm so so sick an tired of the piss poor driving on the roads! people just ignorant to conditions and other road users. arrogant to the point of ridiculous.
If someone gets in your way walking through town, you both tend to apologize and move politely, so why not on the road?
why? because they are in their cars and they become untouchable, And so up their own arses!
There's a great saying in Management styles... PPPP
Piss Pot Poor Performance
I'm totally with you Argt... I've been passed just a few years and to be honest I class myself as a great driver as I'm still abiding by all the rules.
I do think some people should retake driving tests as a matter of course after so long driving.. or at least a little refresher course.
been riding motor bikes from very early age, and riding driving on roads for nearly 22 years, I have car license, bike license, pcv license and even a dump truck license, I can't get over the state of the standard of driving nowadays. a lot of my driving is on the motorways and it is incredible what I see. just angry at crap driving and the potential mass destructive weapon people call their cars! they seem to believe they are all perfect and safe!! silly silly fools, so thinking about having sticker on my van asking this!!
Do you have a donor card?
If so, please don't tick eyes or brain, cos if you can read this then your to thick to realise your to close, and they'll both be fucking useless after they peel them off my rear doors.
But looking for shorter version..so,
Get off my arse you wanker might do it!

You are right, last night I was driving and a big posh stupid audi was right up my arse, I kept to the speed limit and tapped the breaks every few seconds to let him know I wasn't amused. In the end he stepped up his speed (in a 30 zone) to overtake me. evil
maybe time to deploy anti-twat driver missiles from my rear doors. ya know, like the A-team, get too close an i'll blow your bastard penis extension of the road billy bob!
lol

A friend and I got stuck behind a car which was travelling at 20 miles an hour for about a mile stretch. The left indicator was flashing constantly and the person kept breaking all the time, it really was quite a harrowing mile. My friend eventually managed to overtake the car and we saw what can only be described as a manic looking 90 year old man hunched over the steering wheel :eeek: It was downright dangerous for this man to on the road as not all accidents are caused by speedsters.
Surely there should be some rule that when you reach a certain age, you have to retake a test to show that you are still a competent driver?

I thought you have to do something to keep your driving license at age 80 but maybe its just an eyesight exam, not sure.
you have to retake your test at 70yrs old, personally dont see why you should not take test every 10years you have to renew your passport and thats not a lethal weapon.
my x-motherinlaw was 70 2 years ago she had to re-apply for her licence but no test dunno
As for me im a x-taxi driver so my driving is great lol

Such ageist views for the Easter weekend! The vast majority of accidents involve drivers under the age of 70.
I wonder if varca and Nicky will feel this way when they are OAPs?

It was often said to students by a Physics lecturer in my college days that a sentence beginning with the word 'Surely' was usually incorrect. wink
Well I would like to see everyone retest once every 5 years. If you fail then a refresher course and retest in say a months time. If you fail a second time you lose your licence till you can repass the full test.
I know the cost of it all is prohibitive but with all those lives saved it would be worth it.
Basically I think the rules relating to elderly drivers are a retest of 75 yr olds and an eye test and also reports from your doctor to say you are still fit to drive.

I said that, more or less word for word, the other day.
I don't think retests and refresher courses are the answer. I say that because I don't think competence is the major problem with experienced drivers.
People don't actually consciously "drive" their cars. They just get in them and go. If you were in a car with someone and asked them what they were doing - the answer would probably be "Nothing" or "I'm going to my mum's house"
*Disclaimer
Given my occupation, I would like to say that there as many (by percentage) good and bad drivers of cars as trucks as vans as motorcycles as pedal cycles as horse riders.
I agree Dammie - I count myself as a good, careful driver - but like most people who have been driving a long time, do it on sometimes automatic pilot, more so when do a repeat journey.
I do think a lot of accidents could be avoided if people followed "only a fool breaks the two second rule" wink
I have to say since joining the 2-wheel brigade ( ie biker/scooterist ) I've become a lot more conscious of the way I drive and other motorists and their bad habits confused
I have a guy in his 70s living around the corner from me and he's an accident waiting to happen! He pulls out without indicating, doesn't give way at junctions and is going to knock a pedestrian one day :?
That said, it's not just old duffers with the bad habits. Young, old, middle aged, male, female, alien....it doesn't matter. Hands up all those who can say they drive exactly the same way as the day they passed their test?
I find the worst drivers are those with BMW X5s. I hate those trucks with a passion anyway but I find if I've got some inconsiderate twat practically sitting in my back seat, it'll be a BMW X5 mad As they're taking up most of the road anyway, they seem to think they own the rest of it evil

:smackbottom: Varca I already knew you didn't drive :lol2: , but when you are an OAP and your OAP friends who do drive, under your scheme many of them would be banned. It's bad enough allready as a person has to pay for the privilage every 5 years from age 75 if my memory serves me correct.
It gets worse however, even if a person does not wish to drive any more, they find it is in their interest to retain a driving licence as a form of ID when opening bank accounts etc, so they they face extra costs.
Of course the national ID card would solve that, but that's going to cost too. And to think we live in a free society?

 I have nothing against drivers of any age,but dislike bad ones whatever their age  . I was just stateing that a driver at 70 doesnt retake a test, but just has to re-apply for their licence. As most people will have noticed that their licence expires at age 70 and some people have wrongly asumed that you need to take a test to have a licence re-issued.
As for how i will feel when im a oap driver, i would hope that i will be able to tell when its safer for me to hang up my keys than continue to drive. Or as is the case with my motherinlaw, that my family will tell and discuse any concerns they have regarding my driving with me biggrin .

Yes that is how it typicaly works out in practise with families, which is why I do not think re-tests are required. For the tiny number of OAPs who cause fatal accidents, they are swamped by the carnage caused by the younger (so called safer) drivers. It would also be unpopular with the older voters.
During the first month of the clamp-down on mobile phone users behind the wheel in central Scotland police caught a driving instructor who was using his mobile while teaching.
The instructor was just one of 129 people caught in central Scotland since the higher penalties were established.
If they can't set a good example then who the Feck can??? confused
I saw a bloke yesterday driving with a long wooden board on his roof. It was tied down with one piece of rope and he was holding it with his right out of the drivers window
Bad driving has to one of my biggest bug bears. In fact I am not going to get started on it or I will get wound up lol
P.s Argt, love your hairy belly :inlove:
The worst drivers are those that wear hats whilst driving. FACT!
Just check it out next time you're on the road. It has nothing to do with age or type of car driven, just anyone with a hat on.
i really hate the middle lane hoggers, but then i totally hate the middle lane hoggers driving at 50mph on the motorway.
What about those temporary time bus lanes....... if they not going to use it then i will and undertake. The abuse i get from them from horns and lights!!!!!
Is this just me?!

Why not use the overtaking lane if you want to get past them dunno
Or is it just me who uses the overtaking lane for overtaking?
The 2nd and 3rd lane on a motorway are overtaking lanes!
And yes i agree driving in the UK is atrocious, but have a thought for us who are blue light trained it's like playing Russian roulette with cars. I have completed the advanced driving course and my test was two hours long one hour for commentary driving and one hour for Progressive/defensive driving.

Wow, well done you! biggrin
I was in Ireland last weekend right on the border between north and south, and if you think driving is bad here  in the south you DON'T need to have passed your test to drive or have a passenger that has done as long as you pass it before your 3 yr provional is up.
so a 17yr can drive on his/her own for 3yrs with zero help
a lot of people say that volvo drivers are the worst for some reason.i don't have a volvo..i drive an audi but i leave my lights on during the day just to fool oncoming drivers that i might be driving one !! cool
ah sorry i gforgot to mention..... imagine 5am in the morning, no other traffice except me and this other car. 4 lanes plus the hard shoulder, this car tuggs along on the third lane (the one next to the inside lane)
why?
im comming behind on the inside lane (good driver) do i coss 3 lanes just to overtake this person then pull 3 lanes back in?
Personally il just put my foot down and stay in the same lane. (bad bit driving) but hey
what would you do?

I'd use the overtaking lane. Undertaking is illegal and potentially dangerous, regardless of how good a driver you perceive yourself to be. If there were no other cars on the road, it would hardly be a problem to overtake properly would it? A good driver would be able to think far enough ahead to pull out gradually. Just because there are others doing wrong on the road, does not make it OK for everyone else to drive illegally or irresponsibly. confused
God don't get me started about the absolute twatty drivers that are around! mad :x :x
Today I travlled about 10 miles and saw:
1) A car that had a wooden door on the roof rack. But stupidly both the passenger and the driver both had their hands out of their windows holding onto the said door. :wanker:
2) I'm driving up my village High Street and a twat in a sports car is also driving down MY side of the road. After we both came to a halt I just gestured to say "And?" at which point he seemed to twig he was actually driving down the wrong side of the road! :wanker:
3) I carefully pull over to the curb to let a large oncoming tractor pass by (yes I indicated!) only to have 2 cars overtake me at speed in a desperate rush to cut up the tractor so they didn't have to stop! :wanker:
