No way near as good as the original though! Why do people do covers??

Less work! More Money!
Haven't read the thread but ... covers that I really like
The Futureheads ... Hounds of Love
Alien Ant Farm ... Smooth Criminal
current entry in the charts to day is a remix of Go Wests's We close our eyes ... not so sure about this but I think it' a grower.

G4 has done Bohemian Rhapsody.
I thought it was a very close second.
You just can't beat Mike Flowers Pops version of Wonderwall,Fantastic! worship

I like Fatboy Slims cover of "Take yo' praise" by Camille Yarborough, which of course he did as "Praise you". biggrin
Many covers are crap though since they add nothing to the song or totally fuck it up:-see some dickheads ruinous version of Hall&Oates "Out of touch" as a prime example. mad :x :x

Yeah loved Praise You, lovely song.

I have just recently heard this version and i thought that they slaughtered it. Nowhere near as good as the original. This is one classic that should have been left alone.
I think the Moulin Rouge version of Roxanne (Tango de Roxanne) is absolutely orgasmic
Great thread!
Some of my faves:
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Born to Run (Springsteen)
Stiff Little Fingers - Jonny Was (Marley)
Grace Jones - La Vie En Rose (Edith Piaf)
Clash - Armagideon Time (erm..?)
And of course everything by Dusty Springfield. Including her posthumous version of Natalie Imbruglia's Torn. It appeared in my head one day, and I nearly cried.
handbags and gladraggs (rod stewart)
stereoohonics
still havent found what im looking for (the chimes)
u2
somewhere over the rainbow (various)
eva cassidy
stop (sam brown)
jamelia - wasnt she great on the brits with lamar

 Omg! He posted! passionkiss
I agree that the soundtrack of Moulin rouge has used cover versions very well, although take them away from the movie and they are not quite as good.
Who was the rock/ punk group who has done their own verion of the Eurythmics "sweet dreams are made of these" ? I really can't remember?

Also I highly reccomend the Nouvelle Vague album - its a set of bossa nova cover versions of punk/new wave songs including ....
Dead Kennedys - too drunk too fuck
The Clash - Guns of Brixton
.... and many more. Trust me on this - I thought it would be hideous, saw them live and it was pure genius

Spot on JD!

I`m sure Radiohead wrote creep though there is a little plagiarism at the end , It sounds similar to a famous Hollies song ( air that I breath I think)

Thom Yorke says he wrote "Creep" smile
From songfacts :
"Yorke wrote this in 1987 while he was a student at Exeter University in England. He first recorded it acoustic."

the baby d one was wicked as well
it was Dougal the happy hard core DJ that made the original dance mix :smug:
Bit slowon this one!! Do agree with hating coverzs but the tainted Love Mansonversion does things to me!! Its the playfullness in his voice. It just sounds like hes talking toyou andno one else!! He also did that eurythmic song and that was pretty good too!! cool

ok i pick i dont know what to do with myself by the white stripes.... and i dont think he wrote this one for pasty
Regarding Will young, surely you have to agree that it wasn't Will Young covering The Doors. It was more a case of Will Young covering Jose Feliciano covering The Doors.
If you can call it a cover as such, one of my favourites is William Orbit's re-working of Barber's Adagio For Strings. It's one of life's great experiences to shower in the dark with this belting out. Pure relaxation!
Spirit In The Sky......By Dr and the Medics. (Loved those Gothy Gurls as back up singers.)
The Beattles song "Strawberry Fields Forever" was surpassed by Candyflip's version of that song and It holds a special place in my heart for a sad personal reason.
Hendrix cover of Dylan's "all along the watchtower", marvellous
