You may or may not have noticed a programme on BBC2 proposing to find Britains best as the public are involved in the choice the results can neither be meaningful or valid (ie music-how many no1's westlife?politics-how long Thatcher?).So as to get to know you all better I'd like to know what tickles your fancy? They don't have to be sitcoms or even comedy shows I mean who dosen't get a laugh out of Footballers Wives (eating the dog honestly!).I think a persons taste in comedy tells me a lot about you and your tastes, such as Vicar of Dibley=no taste
I'll get you started:
The Royle Family
Phoenix Nights
Trisha - Oh how I laugh at those scallies trying to string a sentence together ending with "Trish"
Tara Chucks
That sitcom called the GFZ
who or what would play the pizza....
any offers for Jags, Sarge, or Kat...
Fred and Wilma, well Wilma has to be nicole kidman... I can see that sweet red head in animal skins..., Fred I will alow others to ponder on....
Mr and Mrs FC .......
must be the Goods Tom and Barbara from the Good Life
clearly Helen Mirren would play Alex... althou it would be Helen Mirren circa 1985 as she is far too old to play Alex of today ( sorry Helen)
just a thought or two
Gmanxxx
do you know I missed Fateher Ted off!Thinking is hard work indeed
Shameless is superbly well written thats what I like about it 8)
Friends
The Simpsons
Blackadder
Fawlty Towers
Steptoe & Son
The Office
(runners up - Cheers, Porridge).
Highly commended but not a sitcom - early Auf Weidersehen Pet
All share great performances (voice acting in The Simpsons), consistent writing and most of all - they're very funny!
Damn! Kicking self for forgetting Father Ted and Fawlty Towers!! Superb!
The Father Ted about the local Eurovision type song contest is jaw droppingly good.
No one has mentioned Black Books.
Is it not a sitcom? I'm not very good with labels. You can't deny that it's brilliant and incredibly funny. Bernard Black isn't merely a worthy successor to Basil Fawlty. He is Basil Fawlty.
heres my list .........
only fools n horses
porridge
fawlty towers
blackadder
Drop The Dead Donkey(well, writen and at the time topical, I just love Joy!)
Yes Minister/Prime Minister (Frighteningly realistic)
Only Fools and Horses (Dosnt everyone know a Del Boy?)
My Family (Or is that reality TV? It is in our house)
One Foot in the Grave (though as h/b gets older this too becomes too true to life for comfort)
Yeh SiGo1 I agree strange !!
I can't believe that no one has mentioned:
Open All Hours
An unbeatable classic !! :bounce:
" Grgrgrgranville fefefefetch a cloth "
Only one winner for me - Blackadder.
If only for the last episode of Goes Forth. The desperation that Edmund showed when he knew he was going to die in a matter of hours and the sobriety of the final scene (especially as the battlefield segues into a poppy field) never fails to bring a lump to my throat.
The votes from Whippet jury are:
Black Adder (for comedy series 2 I liked best)
Yes Minister/Prime Minister
Fawlty Towers
Porridge
Open all hours
Rising Damp
Only fools and horses
My family
Father Ted
Teachers
It's all a bit pointless as there are political reasons why Only Fools and Horses has to win. It's all to do with John Sullivan's contract. But that's another sitcom in itself...
My vote will be going to a rather unconventional real life docusoap...
See this site for details.
Hxx
Well I don't know if this is allowed since it's actually a film....but Monty Python's Life of Brian....
Also.....Friends, Blackadder, Vicar of Dibley.
fools and horses
dad's army
fawlty towers
black adder
Listen very carefully; I shall say this only once. Good moaning.
I have tried to write a 'sitcom' may times, failing each time .( Looks lke I might have to rely on the lottery to make my fortune). It really is incredibly belief is that the best sitcoms are 'character' driven, rather tha situation or plot driven.
So, if I include my penchant for the obtuse, my favorites are:
Fawlty Towers
Black Books
Father Ted
Dads Army
Blackadder (esp third series)
Yes Minister
Plus, as I've spent a bit of time in HM Nick-on the right side of the bars-Porridge was bob on.
A.
Don't know if anybody watched it but ''peepshow'' was really good.
i love porridge and open all hours there really is no substitute for the genius that is ronnie barker
All time fave has to be Black Adder (agree with Mr Writer that the last epsiode of Goes Forth just as they prepare to go over the top - is one of the finest bits of Television ever)
I really could not get into the first series - a bit too slapstick. But when Ben Elton joined Richard Curtis for the second series onwards it really became classic comedy - but with such acerbic wit.
One that also srings to mind is On the Hour (the spoof news prog). It started out on Radio 4 as The Day Today (or that could be round the wrong way)
