I just thought it was something hot in a sandwich where the butter had melted. obviously marj cannot be used in a buttie!
Liverpoolmale - my thoughts exactly - coming from another scouser - definitely bacon butty or chip butty. Everything else is a sandwich.

My old dad (god bless him) always talked about a 'Bacon Banjo' and a 'Ham Daguid'
anyone ever heard of those? or better still have any idea of the origins?
only asking coz we never got to know much about dads early life, thought there might be some clues here.
cheers guys biggrin

Never heard of a daguid but a "banjo" is military slang for a sandwich... usually of the fried egg variety in my experience anyway.
Mr CC

We have egg banjo's here, which is basically a fried egg sandwich/butty, the bread medium is irrelevent, for it to be classed as a 'banjo' it has to be a filling which has been fried. The exception to this is chips.
Sandwich - what you buy in shops
Butty - either a sandwich or mate
Cob - A bread roll, only referred to as a Cob in Leicester (know from experience)
Sarnie - Slang for sandwich
Bap - bread roll, or breasts (personally I prefer the latter biggrin)
Bread - A mixture of flour, water, yeast and other stuff
Barm - bread roll, only referred to as a barm north of the south
