Generally we don't bother with Champagne, I think good Cava or Prosecco is often as good if not better than most Champagne. All you're paying for with Champagne is the name when there are better bottles of fizz from other areas.
Morrisons are doing a half price on all fizz offer at the moment. They're doing a really good pink Prosecco for about a fiver and it's lovely smile

^This^. Three cases of red prosecco just arrived with our latest delivery from our Italian manufacturer. If the boss thinks he's keeping them all to himself he's got another thing coming! lol We had a few cases of red and white proseccos sent over last year at around £3 a bottle, and it was at least the equal of any champagne I've ever had, and a damn sight better than some. I don't really get the cachet attached to champagne - it's massively over-rated, and massively over-priced.
N x x x ;)
Im here wave
Ah champagne I love the stuff drinkies
Dont know if im a bit late but jere goes, it depends a lot on your taste preferences.
If you tend to drink wines that are not to dry and are very fruity then a decent cava or prosecco for about £8-10 with the latter being the better.
If you like them a bit dryer then the cheaper option is method champenoise pay about £12 there are some great ones from Australia Green Point and especially new zealand Cloudy Bay
Frome france look for cremant blanc de blanc
But for personally I love a bottle of Verve Cliquot for the really dry crisp biscuity taste or
bollinger for fuller flavoured champagne but they aint cheap.
Hope that helps, trouble is now i have to go and choose some wine for christmas day and all thid talk of champagne has got my taste buds going smile
Well I've compromised... I've gone for a decent Cava for my cocktail-type drinks and then a bottle of 'proper stuff' for leisurely consumption on Christmas day. It was a bargain though - heavily reduced... gotta love those big supermarkets!

There was a news report a few days ago that suggested the big supermarkets "heavily reduced" offers were grossly inflated about a month ago to satisfy discounting laws in the UK. ie a bottle of xyz brand champers normally retails at £11/bottle is stuck on the shelves at £30/bottle for the minimum period then, hey presto! it's reduced, just in time for Christmas...
Not that I'm a conspiracy theorist, mind...
