To celebrate the festive period generally and to toast the ending of an interesting year in particular, I am going to purchase some champagne.
Does anyone have any suggestions for any good buys? Do you drink champagne or stick to cava or fizzy wine?
a very special cup of lovingly made cocoa.
I may even get a little soya milk.
even wash the cup, you never know

i love veuve cliquot but its spensive
my boss has one of the grapes named after her
I love Champagne Nola - wouldn't have a clue about names tho, I just drink it when I can drinkies
Keep away from the cheapest stuff unless you have had it before lol

actually, not champagne but i do love the cheaper bottles of pink fizz, around £6 quid a bottles, theres one called Pink that i absolutely love
Generally we don't bother with Champagne, I think good Cava or Prosecco is often as good if not better than most Champagne. All you're paying for with Champagne is the name when there are better bottles of fizz from other areas.
Morrisons are doing a half price on all fizz offer at the moment. They're doing a really good pink Prosecco for about a fiver and it's lovely smile
We do have a couple off bottle of Champagne a year which I get as pressies from people we work with but would never normally buy them as I don't think it's worth it.
I don't really drink the decent stuff but do like the odd glass of Asti confused

i like fizz, on of the best is sainsburys cheapest medium dry cava. but i do like the ££££££££££ stuff alot too. it just depends on how dry you want it. i have 3 bottles of cava at the mo, one bought, one given and one won.
whips

Best of all it's on offer at the moment for about £6. It's not too bad either.
I like fizz. I've drunk enough of it this year what with the hen do & wedding. I have to say I'm partial to Moet. Unless it's on offer tho it's a bit pricey. The pink (my fave) coming in at about £40-£45
*Her*

We bought that for the Christmas party at work... apparently it was nice. I'm not a fan of champers but those who are drank it all night.

Where's UKwineman when you want him?
Champagne is only a protected name but the traditional method used by the region is world renown in other brands - particularly from the Loire region of France where the wine is cretaed and stored in deep underground caves along the banks of the river.
For the cheaper sparklers (even the good ones!), a splash of Mûre, crème de cassis or similar in the glass first makes a wonderful creation known as Kir Royale - simply delicious as an aperitif....

I'm with Whips - unless it's a really expensive champagne I prefer Cava and there's some cool buys around right now. We got a bottle of pink Prosecco given to us as a wedding present too and it's absolutely yummy (well, was!) It's called Vino Raboso from southern Italy. Thank you that lovely couple ;)
Surely who you're drinking it with all adds to the experience too? ;)

Could be wrong here... but I'd guess that's what he meant! :giggle:
I dearly love Champagne, Shel not so keen tho.
Recent "blind" tests showed some of the cheaper brands taste better than the really expensive stuff, don't know where you'd search for those results tho.
Also, not only do you have to find the right drink and the right people to drink it with, you also have to find the right place to drink it. For instance, four people naked people sharing a bottle of Champagne on the swingers beach in Cap D'agde is better than breaking it open in a portacabin on a building site......Fact !!!

And plenty to celebrate with it in your case....
Certainly is and thank you for your kind words and sentiments
There are some delicious fizzy (sparkling?) reds around. Australian springs to mind. I reckon much more suitable for a winter celebration and the one I had (forget the name unfortunatley) was lovely.
And think of all the fun you can have trying them. biggrin:D:D
