Well I'm a charity shop shopper, through choice as well as need, and I have a fabulous dark purple "ball gown" (strapless with netting) which is actually a bridesmaid's dress.
So - try some of the charity shops, especially as we are coming into wedding season.

It's irritating to not be the 'norm' or a 'regular' size.
Two shopping tips for a curvy girl.
One - Lingerie section in Asos, cheap almost disposable corsets, average cost is £30 last for three to four wears if worn very tight.
If you want to spend a bit more on a fitted tailored look go to london based and tres reasonable for how beautiful they are, speaking as a dedicated fan of corsets.
Failing all this a good, although hard to find dependant upon shape retailer might be:
Coast
- check out the sale section, beautifully made clothes, only buy in the sale as they are beautiful but not worth the tag!!!
Maybe a beautiful but simple corset from somewhere like asos or diva with a fitted and flared (different sized?) skirt from Monsoon or coast might work well.
Go to for good fitted lingerie and bras that might make the difference.
Good luck with sympathy, amber xxxx
I HATE clothes shopping - I've gone home in tears because of the frustration. Just trying to find one single item in all the shops in town that I can wear, looks ok and i can afford is impossible sometimes.
Women's clothes are sized (I believe) at one size. Then they are scaled up and down for the larger and smaller sizes. A dress size 18 generally looks stupid on most women cos it is actual a size 10 that has just been grown to a size 18.
I have never found a dress that fitted, even my wedding dress didn't and that was made for me. I have a large bust, wide shoulders, a (size 18) hours glass figure and a long spine. Even drop waisted dresses had the waist up under my boobs. And corsets are so short my stomach sticks out under them.
Damn, I knew I shouldn't get started on this thread LOL
If you go to specialist tailors and dress makers they will do a good job for you. Its expensive, but in some cases its the only way to get something right.
Otherwise its an endless and fruitless search amongst standard sizes. Resulting in unhappiness.
