Why not find and try a social first. Meet and talk to others with no pressure.

We went to a club first which we actually really enjoyed, we also attended a social which is a good way of meeting people with no pressure. the important thing is to do what you both feel comfortable with and realise that everyone's interest is mostly the same as yours. Good luck!
