I'm back from my European jaunt and during a very intensive week of training I thought I was coming down with a cold. I thought I had managed to hold it at bay but after a whole day of airports and travelling on Friday I woke up yesterday feeling like utter crap and alternating from biteing off my boyfriends head(even though I had missed him like crazy) and crying. I decided to have an early night so I could wake up a nice girlfriend today.
Sometime during the 14 hours I slept, some bastard crept into the room, took a rasp to my throat and stuffed cotton wool in my sinuses
My normal remedy is a donor kebab and salad with double portions of both chilli and garlic sauce, but as I only have 5 euros to my name I can't get one.
This is where your help is required. What works for you? How can I start to feel human again? I'm willing to try all SENSIBLE sugesstions.

I missed my flu jab at work last week so hope I don't catch a man cold. I have heard whiskey and lemsip works wonders. But I have yet to try it myself.
I know a guy who swears whisky contains a 'cure' for a cold. garlic and chili work best when you're getting the cold, although they will work for when you have it.
Feeding a cold will do you good, plenty of soup (homemade is best as you can put what you want into it) and crusty bread.
If you're going to drown it in booze (or take a long hot bath) bear in mind that dehydration will make the whole thing worse as you won't be able to fight it off as well. The darker the booze the more it will bung up your head.
If you take pharmacy remedies be aware that most of them will contain paracetamol which can be nasty as, a dangerous amount won't be noticable Just twice the dose will do permanent damage. Aspirin can be a good drug for colds, even if it has little effect for you at other times, it can clear your head (gargle with soluble aspirin to get rid of sore throats).
A safe dose of paracetamol and a safe dose of aspirin can be taken at the same time for greater effects.
If in doubt, see your GP.
Right I think I may have it sorted.
I have found my facial steamer and a bottle of TCP and a bottle of Albas oil. Facial steamer is now plugged in next to me producing a lovely antiseptic steam that i keep burying by head in (my housemates are going to luuurve me, but it's my name on the deeds).
I have also raided the freezer and cupboards and found, Frozen chillies (home grown evil little fluckers), frozen turkey breasts, a bulb of garlic, an onion, a tin of tomatoes, a green pepper and a cupboard full of spices. Super strength, cold busting, sweat inducing Jalfrezi coming up.
So if you see a snotty nosed, dreadlocked hippy tomorrow morning - avoid at all costs or risk being blasted with garlic, chilli and tcp.
I try to avoid over the counter remedies when i have colds anyway. Until tomorrow when I have to go to work, then it will be the maximum safe dose of paracetemol in conjunction with maximum safe dose of anti inflammatory taken as often as safely possible. Until I get home then no more painkillers, just sleep and rest.
for me a bit of menthol or vicks on some cotton wool, ram them up your nostrils and leave for 2 hours. take out give your nose a good blow then repeat.
for the sore throat gargle salt water every hour.
it works for me.
Lemsip and rest works best... trying to carry on like normal is really not a good idea.
Morrisons Antiseptic Throat Losenges work really well at soothing the throat... they taste like sweeties... kill the bugs (a bit) and best of all numb up your throat so you feel great.
The attentions of a beutiful woman help too...
The old theatrical remedy of hot honey and lemon is good, but mainly for preventing it in the 1st place. Just mix honey & fresh lemon jiuce and find your own preference for flavour.
Very good for sore throats, though.
I also hear that swallowing is good for that..... :P
Sorry this is a little late, but here goes anyway:
Juice of 1 lemon + two teaspoons runny honey in a mug, topped up with hot water. Drink. Repeat as required for symptom relief.
1g of vitamin C daily, twice daily if you can tolerate it without side effects.
1g of paracetamol every four to six hours with no more than 4g in any 24 hours. (n.b. do not take Lemsip and paracetamol tablets together, always read the label).
Get well soon.
pffft, babies :P
Just have a glass of orange juice before bed and force yourself through the rest.
