my boyfriend suffers with them, he swears by zovirax.
Once you have the herpies virus your stuck with it for life. They tend to come up when he's stressed from work or if i'm stressing him out, also hot weather brings his out. So your best having a nice bath (not hot might bring it out more) and relaxing.
And most important DONT kiss anyone it will spread the virus.
Hope it clears up soon hun. :therethere:

a coldsore is in fact a good sign that your body is well run down at that point, they only seem to show up on me anyway when I am really run down. icon_
I dont think there is anyway in truth to combat the bloody things, zovirax is fine IF you feel the tingle ( which I never do ).
Its just a case of suffer icon_
I would volunteer to come give you a long massage to revitalise you hun, except like you I feel like shite myself atm

Thanks honey, I know but that is the hardest bit sad
got the cuddles but missing my kisses lol

colsdsores..just hate them..
I do suffer witgh these occasionally..mainly when I am really shattered..
seems they attack me when at my lowest ebb..
Use Blisteze or Zov like most people but still take a week /10 days to go away..
I do eat a lot of fruit or take vitamin tablets to build up strength again..
If you suffer from them at regular intervals, you can get some tablets from your doctor to get rid of them.
Zovirax is available in tablet form and know as *ACYCLOVIR*. Taken twice a day for 5 days at the first sign of a cold sore coming, they really do work and so much faster than the creams. The tablets are not available over the counter so a precription is necessary.
You have to take the tablets every day for five days, even if the sore heals up. This is to kill the virus that is within your blood system and the cause of it.
I used to suffer from them all the time. It was nothing to have one almost every few weeks. However after I was first prescribed the tablets around 5 years ago, I have only had about half a dozen and they have almost always been gone within 24 hours of first arising.
Over time the virus is weakened in the immune system and so you will get them less often.
Do visit your doc and ask about getting some and keep a box at home. You never know when these things arise and the sooner you start the tablets the better smile

our eldest lad gets them every so often, and we use to dab the sore with vinegar, very painful, but does seem to dry them up very quickly.

I never new there were tablets that could help :)
I have took cold sores before but not normally as frequent as one after the other  ..which is what's happening just at the moment..well in the last week anyway sad
Will be on the phone to doc tomorrow..

Isnt that an STD?
  no it isn't lil miss
I was around 7 years old when I had my first one
Oh, I thought Herpies was something you contracted from someone through sexual intercourse redface
Ignore me. I havent had much sleep lately
thats genital herpes you are talking about lil.. and it can be passed on through unprotected sex ..
Lucy
hi honey, I suffer from coldsores myself, and they do seem to pop up at the most inappropriate time (like just before a munch or a meet sad).
It is a way of your body telling you to slow down and take some out. Zovirx is about the best thing on the market at the moment, but if your getting a spurt of them try going tot your dr's and there are tablet forms you can get.
Sorry to say honey that you just have to grin and bear it. Try to keep your lips moist, cause they will dry up and then the cold sores start cracking.
Hope you feel better soon
Love

Acutally herpes simplex 1 (cold sore) virus is from within the same family as genital herpes, but has some different characteristics.
However, performing oral sex during an out break of a cold sore, will transmit the infection to the genitals and may cause blisters
Genital herpes is known as herpes simplex virus 2 and if transmited to the mouth will cause blisters inside the mouth and throat, not the lips.
As Lucy says, even children can become infected with cold sore virus.
One thing must be understood though. It is NOT a sing of anyone's sexual habits that they have this virus.
A study by The Lancet (Medical Journal) showed that over 92% of people infected with herpes simplex 1, had become infected during their childhood after being kissed by an adult or another child who was a carrier of the virus sad

there are 2 herpes complex's one is a std yes, the other is a virus that lies dormant in everybody until for some reason it wakes up and cold sores appear
Herpes simplex is a common and usually mild recurrent skin condition. It can cause "cold sores" or "fever blisters" on the mouth or face--what is called oral herpes. It can also cause similar symptoms in the genital area, which is known as genital herpes.
A virus causes herpes--either herpes simplex type 1 (HSV-1) or herpes simplex type 2 (HSV-2). As with all viruses, there is no cure for herpes. It is different from other common viral infections because once it is introduced it lives in the body over a lifetime, often without symptoms or with periodic symptoms. This is called "latency." The virus can travel the nerve pathways in a part of the body and hide away, sleeping, in the nerve roots for long periods of time. Even though HSV may not cause "cold sores" or genital signs or symptoms at the moment, it can still cause symptoms late

quote taken from

Sis-in-laws a pharmacist and recommended something to dry them out and not a cream. We buy the above from Boots, comes in a little glass vile and works wonders. Lasts ages as well.
HSV type 1 (cold sores ) live in the optic nerve and spread back to the infection site in response to specific stimuli.
HSV type 2 (genital herpes ) live in a specific site in the spinal chord. and spread back in response to certain stimuli
I also suffer quite a lot from cold sores but have only recently found a herbal tablet that seems to clear them up a bit quicker than normal. It's called L-Lysine, is an essential amino acid and i get them from Holland & Barretts. Costs about 6 quid for 60 tablets. Hope you find something that works for you.

Hi Lucy,
my daughter suffers terribly from these horrible things.
She has tried Zovirax and all sorts of other remedies but the one that works best for her is a cream from the Drs (prescription only I believe) called 'VectaVir'.
I admit to borrowing it when my annual cold sore begins to erupt sad
Talk to your Gp, I believe there are also injections available for severe outbreaks
thanks for the help peeps kiss
You really are a great bunch biggrin

I myself suffer with Coldsore's.... recently had 3 in 4 weeks!!!
I rang the doctors to see if they could give me anythin for it... the receptionist booked me in...I went ot see the doc...he sat bk in his chair and asked....
"And wot do u want me to do about it"????!!!!!
Made me look a right idiot!!! According to him, there is nothin that they can give you... just said to keep on using the Zovirax. The chemist also said that if u suffer with them, ur low in Vitimin B, u can buy tablets over the counter. I found a different formula to use... its called....Cold Sore Gel and its by Lypsyl. Cost me from a motorway service station on my way to the essex munch!!! lol Its very good... keep ur eyes out lucy smile
There's a very serious side to cold sores.
Apart from the fact that you are stuck with them for life, any oral sex while you have the sores (and afew days after) could lead to transfering from mouth to genitals (and vice versa). Think of how uncomfortable the mouth ones are, now imagine what the genital sores will be like. For a start, sex will become near impossible.
Getting back to the serious side, if you think you are about to get one, DO NOT KISS children. If you miss the cheek and get them near their eyes/on eyes, you can serious trouble down the road. Even after many years, when the child has become an adult. The dormant virus may become activated, and travel along back to the eye (site of initial transmission). If any damage occurs to the cornea, then that person could then lose sight in that eye (or need a cornea transplant).

Yeap, it can be an STD but a lot of people get it from their family when they are kissed by a person bearing the virus. It can be transfered through skin contact not just lips to lips... so if a mom kisses a baby's hand, she can give him the virus. Of course people in the old days were not as well informed as we are today.
I was doing a bit of research on the herpes virus and found out that it can be transmitted not only during the active stage (when the blisters are showing) but also in the inactive stage (when one feels fine) because the body sheds 'viral particles' at different times in the year. Apparently the only way to deal with it is to be frank with your partner and let him/her make an informed decision on how to go forward, i.e. whether to use barrier methods at all times or just certain times.
Forgot to mention that when you have active cold sores, you must not share towels with anybody and in fact you should use fresh face clothes that you wash in the hot wash after each use. Also you must wash your hands very carefully after touching your cold sore in order not to re-infect yourself or others.

Using condoms is a good idea ayway. But if the sores are near the base of the penis/surrounding the labia, then some conatct may also occur (which condoms cant protect against).
