Do we get boring as we get older?

I think I have got more boring and uninteresting as i have gotten older. When I think about the person I was too the person i am now I really do think i've become far more boring.
Looking back over the last twentyerrrrmmm four or five years innocent

I can hardly belive some of the stuff i did or that i am the same person. I am a grumpy boring old fart in the main.
All i seem to do is try and be sensible and moral and fair with my kids and that spills over into all areas. Maybe thats wht swinging is si cool to me because its still novel and risque and slightly dangerous.

Dont think im getting boring as such, just more laid back.
Still love dressing up in pvc, porno shoes etc when we go out :P
The plus side of being older is when younger friends ask for advice cos they think im clever ....told them ive been around the block a few times, made the odd mistake or two. lol

I've mellowed over the years....and gained more patience (although I've always been reasonably patient anyway) working with young people.
I was quite hardened to life when I was in my 20's, wouldn't take rubbish off anyone (still don't to a point but deal with it differently). Thought I brushed most of life's baggage into a corner an forgot about it, but it all came back to haunt me later in life as I didn't deal with it in the past. I've learnt more about me in the last tens years than the previous 39 ( heck I feel old writing that).
I realised a while back that I shall probably always be single. At one time I didn't want that but now I've sort of come to terms with it and decided that it isn't that bad...
I do wish I had done more in my 20's and went a bit wild when I hit 40, quieted down after a few years and now Im ready to hit the 50's running! Cant wait, I don't want to be old an grumpy....I wanna be old and having fun in whatever way I want to!!! lol

I do not think you are boring - though I dont know you! rolleyes

This is common for people with kids and is a good sign that you are balancing them out. I think it shows that at this age you are showing great responsibility to your family, to your job and probably to your swinging friends too? With responsibility comes a burden but then you need to have time to take the yoke off your shoulders and have a bit of you time - swinging if you like? cool

When you are young you have few if any responsibilities and you also don't know what you are getting into so it is all fresh and exciting but you were probably stupid at times too?
I am entering a phase of leaving the responsibility behind again with just myself to look out for and going into new territories - hopefully I wouldn't be so stupid this time but be willing to explore, be risky and be more individualistic.
When you look back at this phase you will know it was worthwhile to put your shift in. Just don't lose sight of "yourself" while you are doing it or you will lose the plot altogether. A female friend of mine did that whilst being over responsible for her family when relocating life/house and gave herself a breakdown. Look after yourself and keep yourself on track - you are worth it as it says in the adverts!

I was in town today in the pouring rain with my newly adult daughter. It struck us that she hadn't had chance to behave immaturely now that she was officially not a child......so we went off for a walk on a wall.
At Christmas I did some spontaneous silky pyjama sledging cool

(And yes, I did get a snowy arse!)
I can't help thinking that people instinctively know you're a bit loon

though. I remember last summer, there was a new recruit on the ship who I barely knew. We'd been sent off with some trolleys to bring the supplies back, they were the sort of thing you find at builders yards. The ship was stuck about half a mile away, along lots of narrow, unfenced rickety pontoons. He turned to me & said "Winchy, it says 'children must not ride in this trolley'" We gave each other a look, and I jumped in........scariest ride I've ever had :scared: bloody good fun though! rotflmao

I almost feel guilty sometimes that the kids might rather have a more conventional mum. But then I see a big, shiny button.......

Sensible. Moral. Fair. With Kids.
That's what parents are. They give the kids a good grounding in what they are supposed to be like, which gives them a reasonable idea about how they are required to behave. So then they can then go off the rails and do things that are fun.
You've done the right things with the kids, and then gone and done the wrong things with yourself.
So............................................

I believe as you get older you can take more calculated risks which in itself seem less risky.
I would like to say possibly looking back to stuff you did, you might have done without weighing up all the risks, so seems more risky.
Grumpy old fart I interpret as being more informed wiser, and having the ablity to make the right choices.
I love being older as my inhibition have gone, and with that I have become more risky and ready to explore things that I wouldn’t have done before. For fear of the unknown
Being sensible moral and fair with your children doesn’t mean you are boring, we want to protect our children because we want no harm to come to them. Also we want them to turn out as reasonable and fair adults.
As an example: When my children go flying down a hill on a go cart I see fear as I know the risks. I then hide indoors and can’t watch, I just wait for the knock on the door to say they have hurt themselves. They never do! lol
I forget and have to remind myself I done the same as a child as child we don’t see the risks.
So my answer to you Lost is enjoy getting older we all have to do it its life, I wouldn’t say you are boring at all just wiser. wink

All I can say is that life has never been more interesting fer me!

Hell no!!!
I have some of the coolest most awesomest friends,who are alot older than me some twice my age (i'm 28, which a long time ago i thought was old). Only the last couple of years i realised i'm still a boy.
Most of the people i hang out with are or go down the pub with are older than me. And i always have a great silly time with them all.
Age is just a number, thats all imho.

I know that everything doesn't centre around pop music but it is a useful barometer. I think there hasn't been a new idea since postmodernism finally landed in mainstream culture in the mid 90s, and to be honest I actually think the stage is totally set. This is an exciting time. All it takes is a bit of faith and a concerted push. Unusually, that's going to have to come from grownups, because as I say, the kids seem to have bought the idea that ideas are no longer important; that's fine. We're not too old.
