Just clearing out my drawer and found a sealed box of CK Obsession for men, eau de toilette, what ever that means, must have been in there over 5 years. Do these things have a shelf life? I'm not really one for perfume, is perfume even the right word?
Do you like guys to smell of perfume?
Just did a search and came up with this.
Perfume
This consists of a 15-30% concentration of perfume essence and is the strongest fragrance available. This means that not only do you need to use less, but also that the fragrance lasts longer, typically for up to 6 hours, depending on skin type.
Parfum De Toilette
This is usually between a perfume and an EDP in strength but a few companies use the term to describe an EDT.
Eau De Parfum (EDP)
This is lighter than Perfume, with an 8-15% concentration, and so is less expensive but still has long lasting characteristics, from 3 to 5 hours.
Eau De Toilette (EDT)
This is a lighter more delicate fragrance, with a 4-8% concentration of the essence, and is therefore most suited to everyday use. It is normally less expensive than Eau de Parfum, and lasts for 2 to 4 hours.
Eau De Cologne (EDC)
This is often referred to just as Cologne and has the greatest dilution of fragrances with a 3-5% concentration of perfume essence, lasting up to 2 hours.
For men
Eau De Toilette (EDT)
This has the greatest concentration of essence generally available for men and hence lasts the longest, up to 5 hours. It is often available in either a splash or a spray.
Aftershave
Less strong, it is the most popular choice and lasts for 2 to 3 hours. Aftershaves are kinder to the skin than EDT's. Those with very sensitive skin should use aftershave balms.
The % by volume that you see on the bottles is the amount of alcohol that is in the fragrance blend. Basically perfume companies 'pad out' their fragrances with alcohol, firstly to make them go further, and also because otherwise they would be incredibly strong to wear! A perfume with strong smelling essence ingredients will have more alcohol with it than one which is more delicate.
Why do some fragrances smell different on my skin when compared with my friend's?
This is because pH levels (the amount of acidity in our skin) varies from person to person. Our individual levels of pH will determine how each ingredient in a fragrance will react on our skins which in turn impacts on the smell.
How can I keep my fragrance from going off?
Keep your fragrances in a cool, dry and dark area as sunlight can unbalance the various ingredients. An opened bottle should be kept in its box to ensure a longer shelf life.
NOT ALOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THIS!!!!
As for shelf life.....yes I believe there is a shelf life for smellies!!! I think I read 2 years somewhere whilst doing this search but cannot find it again so not entirely sure.
In answer to your question...yes I like a guy to smell nice but it does not necessarily have to be aftershave etc.

Aftershave only lasts for 2-3 hours? Wow, I never knew that... might explain a few things. Thanks Wilma.
I've been using the same bottle of aftershave for at least the last 8 years, with no noticable ill-effects. (Though I am still single... hmmmm...)
Mrs Mirth tends to get all excited when I have been having a strenous day in the garden,.... she reckons I become all sherberty.... and then I go and spoil it all be having a shower!!!!
but I hate being sweaty...fresh sweat may be fine pheremones etc.... but stale sweat is a big no no .... fine balance

I'm an Old Spice man myself. I have some Joop I was given as a present a few years ago, but it just doesn't measure up...
It's a real mans aftershave :hunk: :lol2:
I use Clinique Happy for Men and only ever have good reports. Old Spice will forever be associated with my grandad and Aramis is my dad's favourite. I'll always go for something lighter and with more citrus.
What about Blue Stratoss and Denim.....anyone remember them?
