Got to say I agree with Cherrytree... I think we need to see her in a straight acting role before forming an opinion....
But.... It will take some time before I can see her without picturing her saying "bovvered" :giggle:
You mean the Christmas Special episode where Tate played 'Donnaaah' (the one who got married) wasn't enough to see how rubbish she is?
Oh dear.
Oh dear what? yes I thought she was pants in that. But all I'm saying is, give her a chance.

Ok,
One episode, then complain!

If she IS a member of this site and she IS reading this, then she deserves to know how much we don't want her in Dr Who!
I KNOW we ought to give her a chance - but I am really finding it hard to keep an open mind on this one. As I have said, I haven't seen her do anything even vaguely entertaining yet so I am terrified that she is going to ruin the whole series sad

I actually liked her in the Xmas episode - she and David Tennant had good chemistry in that. I'm convinced that a lot of the people omplaining about it just don't like her because she's popular.

No i dont like it because I believe she will be crap...
Its got nowt to do with if she is popular or not..
That's why I said 'a lot of people' and not 'everybody' - I was going more off the venom being spat her way on other sites I read rather than comments on here when I said that, though.
I actually enjoyed that episode more than I expected as I find her comedy to be one dimensional and poor, so I was surprised I liked her as Donna. She could easily turn out to be a poor choice - especially if she doesn't calm down a bit in the series, but I kind of enjoyed the chemistry between her and the Doctor so I'm quite looking forward to seeing her back.
But then again, I'm not a massive Dr Who fan so I don't really have much invested in this show other than I like that the BBC is making Sci Fi again.
What's the word for fear of the new? people really don't like change do they?
Regardless of whether you like Miss Tate or not dramatically Martha couldn't stay. A lot was made of the relationship between The Doctor and Rose. When Rose left she would have left a hole in the Doctor's life. Martha could never have the same kind of relationship with the Doctor without cheapening the seperation with Rose. It seems entirely right within the plot for an intelligent woman like Martha to realise that The Doctor couldn't feel for her how she felt for him. In which case she would leave.
If this is the case then The Doctor needs a new assistant. Should it have been a man? Not if Captain Jack was back because the BBC wouldn't cope with gay innuendo at teatime. It seems to me they have picked a good actress and a charactor that will provide a different slant on the plot from Rose and Martha. And I guess Catherine Tate is on the up careerwise so she won't be there long.
Ok... why am I the first to say:
It's just a TV programme! :lol2:

Well, Keeno. Paragraph one, I think you are spot on. However, I do still think that there is room for the Martha character to develop without becoming a new love interest for the Dr. In this sense I CAN actually see the point of taking her off to Torchwood for a spell and then bringing her back.
Paragraph two is where your argument falls apart slightly. Catherine Tate is NOT on the up careerwise and is, in fact, fading fast. Also, as a 'name' there is a danger of her overshadowing the show itself (or at least trying to). If we had to have a new assistant I would rather have had a complete unknown or possibly a character who had already appeared elsewhere in the series - and NOT someone from a one-off Christmas special with the world's most irritating voice (and thinks that saying 'bovvered' over and over again is the height of intellectual comedy! mad).
Kiss - yes, I know it's only a TV show kiss. The fact is that it was the ONLY TV show that I bothered to watch, and I suspect that even that small pleasure has now gone.
Will sad

Will... I was just in a mischevious mood yesterday. redface Friday feeling and all that. I'll make it up to you. wink
I'm still too scared to watch the final episode from last week. I've spent a few days now watching small bits of it and then turning it off again!! redface
As for Catherine Tate - it has been reported that after the Christmas special last year she was repeatedly asked why she wasn't doing more episodes and her reply was 'cos they didn't ask me'. When Russell Davis heard that he promptly asked her.

As with anything else my attitude is 'suck it and see'. I'm off to put some pennies in my Tardis money box which makes the Tardis noise when its doors are closed (really) and then send a text from my phone with the very lovely gold Dalek as the background, When someone answers my text my phone will make the noise of the Tardis thurming as the alert!
Me.. a fan? Obsessed? NEVER.
lol
