Apparently Emelyn lost his battle against cancer today
Also gone this week Eddie Charlton (snooker)
Howard Keel (musicals, films and tv)
I remember watching crazy horse play a damm good footballer he will be sadly missed.
Emlyn Hughes dead! Its like part of my youth has gone also.
Never the most skillfull he more than made up for it by his fitness, passion and will to win. My happiest football memory was him lifting the European Cup in 1977 in Rome in front of 25,000 Liverpool fans
sad :( :( :(

...and of course Fred Dibnah of fond memory.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Emelyn Hughes a couple of times.
He was lovely, charming everything you expected him to be.

sad :( Very sad news indeed. He was a lovely man.
Back in the early 70's when he was with Liverpool, he opened the school sports day at the primary school I attended.
He was only booked to be there for half an hour, but stayed for the whole afternoon, having his picture taken with everyone that wanted it. He joined in races, helped serve drinks etc. He was just great.
My brother aged 5, although not a Liverpool fan, cherished the photo he had taken for many years.
A sad loss.

WBB shows her ignorance of everything once again, as she admits she does not know who he is!
As a Wolves Fan I must thank Emlyn for his services to the Wolves ...as someone has alrady said not the greattest of footballers but was truly an inspirational Captain.
Football and a question of sport will miss
Very sad news indeed. As an earlier poster says 'it's part of your youth gone' . He always gave 110% on the football field and was a good role model of it . Was involved with numerous charities and had time for everyone . Some of todays 'stars' :!: should take note of the example he set.

Terrible news - as a United fan, Hughes's Liverpool
were a terrible scourge growing up, especially when
they won the European Cup. What a fantastic athlete,
and a great servant of Liverpool FC. Its shocking
that somebody who spent so many years in professional
sport should be struck down so young.
