I had a conversation with a very good friend of mine a while ago about hold-ups. I was complaining that I can never find decent ones that stay up and feel nice.
Next time I saw her she gave me a pair. Told me she gets them in John Lewis and swore by them. So, I tried them and sure enough they were brilliant. Stayed up all night, didn't dig in, were comfortable and felt lovely! Result! She was absolutely right! Bearing in mind this girl knows how to shop!! lol
The other night I was in John Lewis and though I'd get myself a pair for my Christmas do next week. Picked them up, got to the cash desk and out came my purse. "That'll be " she said... " " I said with my jaw hitting the floor?!! For a pair of hold-ups?!   Blimey!!
Well I bought them anyway because it is true what they say, you get what you pay for but next time I see my friend she's absolutely had it!!!
Not only did she spend that on hold-ups for me but she made me like them so much I did it too!!
I tell you... they'd better guarantee me a shag!!! :rascal:
So what's expensive but worth it in your world?
MAC makeup. It lasts, it is lovely gorgeous colours, it smells divine. Yes, it is pricey but I think it is quality and worth paying.
Although I swear by Boots no 17 eyeliner.

Yes redface
Although, despite being expensive, I should add 'very definitely not snog proof'
lol
Deep lace Hold ups from Debemhams (not quite as dear as yours though) lol  £12 ish a pair
Expensive shampoo & conditioner £8 - £10 for both (although it lasts me about 2/3 months so it does'nt work out that expensive)

Do you know Nola, as soon as I saw this thread, this was exactly what sprung to mind!
Although I use quite a variety of makeup, mac without a doubt is worth every penny. I tend to go for the eyeshadow palettes which come out at christmas- they last ages and are value for money! Their foundation is shit though.
But yes, gorg lippy! wink
Also with you on the shampoo Tan- I've yet to find a decent cheap shampoo that can cope with the state my hair has got into with all the bleach etc etc! Great minds think alike eh gals?!
My show fishnets are also a pricey neccessity- a pair, but needed to hold everything in and not rip after one high kick!
Expensive chocolates- yuk! give me a bar of dairy milk any day!
Also, alcohol, i have never understood how a bottle of champers/vino etc could be priced at 100 quid, even 1000 quid- surely it can't taste that much better than a 6 quid bottle?!

Illy coffee, twice the price as usual brands but so damn tasty!

My "expensive but worth it" would have to be my Boots No 7 skincare range. I blame PK for that :lol2:

Ah but it does (to the conisuerre (sp) Most of the dearer ones are rather old and from a good vine and a good year etc etc . I used to work in a hotel that did weddings every week, usually a couple bottles of wine were sent into the kitchen that were spare from the toasts and boy could ya taste the better from the cheap
£6 bottles will do me though (if I'm buying)
Aveda Shampoo and conditioner - I always buy the largest size I can get and it lasts me a year.
Molton Brown bath/shower gel mmmmmmmmmm smells yummy.
Our honeymoon. At £4k, it's more than we've ever spent on holidays over the 5 years we've known each other  but is gonna be SO worth it wink
*Her*
Yes Tan, i agree you can taste the better from the cheap, but I just don't see how it could be thatmuch better?! Just for a wee sip?!!!
There is usually a noticible difference between a bottle and an bottle, and my absolute favourite vino was £22 a bottle (they don't sell it here) and that was very definately a once in a blue moon treat to be savoured!
In a restaurant, it's slightly different, I would spend a bit more but never over 30 squids max- no way jose! It may be nice, but not that nice!

Ooooh yes... the monster bottles do last a long time! It's about £70 for a years worth! It's a lot but it's worth it. lol
When I treat myself to some Aveda I always order it from lookfantastic dot com. It's the cheapest place I have found wink
My gel nails are my luxury. Expensive though they are with a lot of costly maintenance, it means my nails always look nice and never chip from 1 infill to the next. If I have nail art done as well it means they look special and are unique.

And are gel better than acrylic?
I'm relatively new to the world of high maintenance nails, having been a nail biter all my life. I've been wearing acrylic ones now since the summer and I love them. Yep, they cost but they look great.
Sorry - for hijack but am intrigued!
I saw a pair of shoes but thought they were too expensive for the type of shoe they are, hubby bought me them as supprise last xmas and I love wearing them, they go with loads of stuff and always get lovely coments.
so expensive but worth it xxxx

Well there are a lot of people who think differently but I think gel are stronger than acrylic and have tried both. There is a new type of gel now that is coloured so no need for polish and also less chance of chipping and the whole process is therefore faster as well. Disadvantage is that if you want a lighter colour then the nails have to come off and start again. Find a good nail technician and you should be set up for life ... and I challenge anyone to bite gel or acrylic nails wink rotflmao
I've been using a Decleor serum aromessence oil thing for only 5 days; the difference in my skin is amazing already and I look - well - lovelier than ever!! wink
This was a free sample - so the question is - do I go and spend £61 on the real thing?
