Just a thought but sometimes questions get asked about topic's that have been answerd before and whilst its tiresome for some people to answer the same thing over and over again
From a newbies point of view the search button isn't the easiest of things to use if you only using a common word to search with. For instance a search on protection has just returned at least ten pages of results
I was wondering if we could all benefit from sticky that held links to some of the recent sensible FAQ's (something like the advice sticky) prehaps with a heading encouraging users to use that section before posting a quiery. biggrin
I agree but some of the most enjoyable threads have started with a predictable topic starter.

I'll take the lock option please Phredd as no one apears to have any views on this confused
So the next time someone asks a question thats been asked before I'll just follow the standard friendly procedure I use at the moment. biggrin
"FFS use the fookin search button"
Followed by copious amounts of flameing from some users :?
I agree sheddy. I had my first 2 threads locked as they were done before but as a green- as- grass newbie I didn't know where the search button WAS let alone know wtf to do with it ! When you're a virgin poster, it's very daunting even plucking up the courage to say hello, let alone ask for advice without sounding like a complete twit.
It is a good idea Sheddy, and I think if anyone has any genuine good advice ones, they could ask St3v3 to stick a link in the Advice Post.
The problem though, is that a lot of people dont read the stickies, so the topics still get posted. Not its not always a bad thing, sometimes it can be good fun to bring up an old subject, but when you read the 20th does size matter post, it does get a bit frustrating.
But yes, my opinion, good idea and we should send some links to St3v3 and if he thinks they are of use, he could put them in his advice thread.
That ok with you St3v3? (perhaps I should have asked him before doing this) redface
damned good idea matey
and finding all the relavant links will keep you out of mischief for some time to come rotflmao

I can apriciate that however it can't be that hard tto rename an apropiate sticky,
FAQ's PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING or word to that effect, hell you can even cover it in fairy lights if it makes it stand out lol

As soon as I don't have to browse SH covertly (got friends round) I'll search some out and you can pinch them, as long as its of some use it doesn't matter who gets them posted biggrin

To bring to topic back on track (seedy indeed I love it lol )
The reason I posted this thread is because when I've chatted with some newer members one subject always raised its head and that was the fact that one of their first impressions of the forum was that it was a bit dawnting, clicky and sometimes a bit of a heirarchy definintely not my words as I don't know any that big
Now I know most of us aren't like this however if this is the feelings some new users get prehaps some could offer friendly advice a bit more instead of reaching for the rolleyes emoticon at the first chance they get to use it.
I was a newb once and still am by a long shot compared to a lot of members and if your just venturing in to the swinging scene it can be daunting enough without "feeling like an outsider" (another prhase mentioned to me) on a site that is supossed to be a broad church.
One recent thread springs to mind that generated quite a lot of  or things along those lines. When the simple answer was if thats your thing then go for it biggrin
Sorry if this comes across as a rant its not but more so an observation some relative newcomers points of view.
We were all new once and we all ask dumb questions however the only reason we ask a question is because we don't know the answer and never will untill someone tells us it.
:D

Sorry I don't see the point, there are already advice sections that are ignored on a daily basis why add to them?

Did you bother to read the rest of the thread where I raised the points of some newer and equally important members or just instatley dismiss the idea ?
Yep I did, I just don't see how another advice thread in addition to the sticky, and the advice section to the right will make people feel any different about posting on here.

So you also saw the sugestion of not using another sticky but incorperating it into the excisting one and re nameing it confused
I don't see how changing the title of the current sticky will make it more attractive.
People will either read the stickies and other sections to get a feel for the place or they won't.
Renaming a thread won't miraculously make all newcomers to the site read it and as it gets longer and longer with more threads added to it it becomes even less likely.

Prehaps not however it was a sugestion that few people I know thought would have helped them from the start so obviously it'd help soem other people.
Prehaps you can't catch al the fish in the sea but you need a net to at least try
Or perhaps we look at bringing back something like the Mentor system Mal set up?
i think frequently asked questions is slightly different from advice?
i feel that sheddy has a good point and agree that this forum isnt always very welcoming to new people posting for the first time, alot of flaming goes on with regulars basically taking the piss out of new comers. i dont post very much at all and i certainly wouldnt post anything too contraversial or confronting without running away very quickly lol which is entirely unlike me in real life....i just feel that this is a forum where i like to spend spare time for fun.....not confrontation, so i choose not to get involved.
now, if youre of the shcool of thought that feels they deserve it due to not taking the time to read pages and pages of threads prior to posting then thats your choice, im not from that shcool of thought tho so its not something i will ever be involved in. id rather just not post any reply if i feel the post/thread doesnt deserve one. i dont have the time to go about putting people down for making a crap post, id rather spend my time posting on good ones! and we do have the moderators about to direct people to the current threads, previous threads and to do any tidying up of aup breeches etc
anyway back to my initial point......i think NWC made a a good suggestion to have a thread which has links to previous threads (which im sure could be very well suggested by alot of the regulars who have posted good advice and answers in many threads) on all the commonly asked questions ie does size matter, single married swingers, can i get my wife into swinging etc etc then maybe people can be directed to theose threads where the topic has been discussed previously and save us the rolling of eyes, piss taking, down right rudeness and self righteousness!
phew. ok ive stopped now....... bolt

I stumbled across that the other day and thought it was a good idea biggrin

i do somewhat agree with you there, some people just wont read it regardless....but if it was a thread that held links to previous threads we could direct people there rather than shooting them down?
Not every newbie reads stickies I agree ( took me a while to read them all ) but all the same, it's very daunting to post here for the first time and
A. not have a clue what you're doing
B. have no idea who is who and what to ask without sounding like a complete pillock
C. be treated like a complete pillock for asking a genuine question that has in all fairness been asked time and time again.
It IS like trying to join a new gang where most people know each other and you try very hard to fit in. Some make it, some don't but I think we should try to be as helpful as we can without making newbies feel unwanted. It's one thing to post a thread with a reasonable if overdone subject and another to post complete bollocks for the sake of it.
I'm with sheddy here
