I agree but some of the most enjoyable threads have started with a predictable topic starter.
I agree sheddy. I had my first 2 threads locked as they were done before but as a green- as- grass newbie I didn't know where the search button WAS let alone know wtf to do with it ! When you're a virgin poster, it's very daunting even plucking up the courage to say hello, let alone ask for advice without sounding like a complete twit.
Sorry I don't see the point, there are already advice sections that are ignored on a daily basis why add to them?

Yep I did, I just don't see how another advice thread in addition to the sticky, and the advice section to the right will make people feel any different about posting on here.

I don't see how changing the title of the current sticky will make it more attractive.
People will either read the stickies and other sections to get a feel for the place or they won't.
Renaming a thread won't miraculously make all newcomers to the site read it and as it gets longer and longer with more threads added to it it becomes even less likely.

Or perhaps we look at bringing back something like the Mentor system Mal set up?
Not every newbie reads stickies I agree ( took me a while to read them all ) but all the same, it's very daunting to post here for the first time and
A. not have a clue what you're doing
B. have no idea who is who and what to ask without sounding like a complete pillock
C. be treated like a complete pillock for asking a genuine question that has in all fairness been asked time and time again.
It IS like trying to join a new gang where most people know each other and you try very hard to fit in. Some make it, some don't but I think we should try to be as helpful as we can without making newbies feel unwanted. It's one thing to post a thread with a reasonable if overdone subject and another to post complete bollocks for the sake of it.
I'm with sheddy here
