thin Lizzy is ace as well
Not so much as a favourite air guitar piece - as I don’t participate. However, it seems an appropriate thread to have noted that…
the guitar solo in Michael Jackson’s 'Beat It' is technically magnificent and utter brilliance!

Apparently you can now do a degree in "Air Guitar" . What better way is there to waste educational funds. Industry and commerce must be absolutely crying out for graduates with a "Air Guitar" degree. rolleyes yea right................wonderful !
Jude

Of course the education industry is quite happy to offer degrees in anything if they can persuade people to sign over huge amounts of money to study them. Is this an undergraduate degree at a UK institution (I very much doubt it)?
I'd strongly suspect that any talk of a degree in air guitar probably comes either from the Finnish postgrads working on the computerised air guitar (which is really a concept demonstration for some very nifty cutting edge user interface design - the practical applications have yet to emerge, but one that sprang to mind would be the ability for a computer to recognise sign language and encode it into speech or writing), or somebody writing a Masters/PhD thesis on the phenomenon, which is fair enough.

dont believe a word by thin lizzy is very good too .
Oh, c'mon, there can be only one...the same song that has been banned from nearly every guitar shop in the country...namely "Smoke On The Water" by none other than the great Deep Purple.
Yep that's the one...the song that virtually invented the concept of Air Guitar. There can be no other.
(BTW, #2 in the Air Guitar charts just has to be the live version of Freebirdby Lynyrd Skynyrd!)

Swinging Heaven's Air Guitar Greats .... coming soon from K-Tel .....
Gotta agree with the top taste being expressed here - Moore, Lizzy, Maiden et al.
I think it comes down to whether you are a Lead Air Guitarist ( LAG ) or a
Rhythm Air Guitarist ( RAG )
For sheer endurance, how about the Freebird solo from the 12 minute version ?
A great way to deduce how far the arthritis has set in !
Gary Moore faves are, Empty Rooms ( LP version ), or White Knuckles ( Rocking and Rolling )
Hendrix .... All along the Watchtower ?
Lizzy ? How about Emerald ?
Whitesnake ? Crying in the Rain ? Fool For your Loving ?
Kiss ? God Gave Rock and Roll To You, Love Gun ?
Guns and Roses ... Sweet Child, or November Rain ?
Lets not mention Yngwie J Malmsteen or Messrs Vai or Satriani.
Yes ... I know ... it's all a bit heavy but I grew up with it, and it never lets you go.
SAXON ! ... Wheels of Steel ....
Now, If you'lll excuse me I'm gonna slip on my Les Paul Gold Top AIR special, in
transparent laquer finish, crank up the Marshall Silent-but-violent Stack with twin
4 by 12 non-existent cabinets, and thrash along with some AC/DC !
Seems quite fitting really ! :-)
Big fun ? Not Arf !
Sorry to go on so long ....

Air guitar classics have got to be:
- the solo on Sweet Child o Mine
- Foxy Lady - Hendrix
- Enter Sandman - Metallica
- It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll - AC/DC
On a bit of a tangent ,what about air drums?
Run to the Hills - Iron Maiden
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana ( good air guitar riffage as well lol )
It has to be Hocus Pocus by Focus.
Agree with you with the Iron Maiden on Air Drums too!!

It's all down to practice, practice, PRACTICE. I use an air metronome to keep my rhythm  also useful for keeping rhythm when doing other things as well wink
