It's hard to escape the juggernaut that is 'Fifty Shades of Grey', it's either in the news, friends discussing it on Facebook, or people tweeting how much they love/hate it.
So who here is reading/read it and what did you think? You ready for an evening of contracts and handcuffs or was it all a bit boring.
I am upto chapter 17 now and I am really enjoying it, in fact I came online to post in the forum specifically about the book. I highly recommend it to anyone male or female. I have never been into BDSM or the dom/sub scene and in fact past experiences have rather put me off it. But now reading this book has peaked my interest and I am intrigued now. However, I am sure not all subs are as lucky as the Ana in the story! She has a very beguiling way of her own and sways him into submission himself in some ways! However, if I were in her position I would definitely not smirk at the offer of a free of charge car, free personal training 4 times a week and provision of financial means for clothing and personal grooming! wink I am enjoying the first volume to let's home the other 2 are as good and hold my interest aswell! It's really inspired me to write of my own experiences (professionally as I have been so far, asked to do!)
i'm just finishing the second book and i find it very tame and repetative, that said will read the third book as i just want to see it through after coming ths far
as fas as the Dom/sub part of the book goes its nothing like the real thing its incredibly tame but leaving a lot of women wanting to find themselves a Dom when in fact all they really are looking for is someone that open minded enough to dabble in some role playing sex play
the relationship between Ana and Christian never really makes it into the Dom/sub world its is really just a romantic novel with a lot of sex thrown in for good mesure more what i call mummy porn it appeals to bored housewives
I may have a copy kicking around here somewhere. A borrowed one I hasten to add. I wouldn't have gone out and actually bought it, honest! Not actually started it as yet, and remains to be seen if I go out and buy the two sequels on the back of it like. You never know? I probably wouldn't ordinarily have bothered with it at all, especially seeing as the girl across the office has done nowt but bang on and on about it for weeks apparently getting increasingly worked up by the thing. She's unwittingly planted one or two mental images that I'd rather not have floating around my head thanks, the erotic potential of a well-written scene most likely now ruined forever . . . . evil
Still, a copy has fallen into my lap. Gotta read it now really, purely in the interests of being down with popular culture and what have you though, obviously. A bit like watching the audition stages of X-Factor so you know who everyone's on about later, you know, something like that.
Read it a few weeks back.
I quite enjoyed the first one, the discussion of what D/s is and deciding if it's for her.
I read the others because I wanted to know what went on but like Bouncy I found them kind of tame and also thought she was the wettest blanket going. But they were enjoyable enough I suppose!
Ive heard the trilogy referred to as a new genre called 'mummy porn' which put me right off, as it reminds me of sad, harrassed mothers needng to have a quick fap to it while their wee ones are at school, before they stick a load in the washer and pay the paper bill.

You're welcome. kiss
I've read the first two and am now on to the third. I'm beginning to be irritated by the overuse of certain words and ways she describes things, but I'm hooked into the storyline and almost desperate to know she lives happily ever after. To the point where I needed to know so much I've read the last page of the final instalment of the trilogy to see. I'm a sucker for needing to know what happens. rolleyes lol

Inner Goddess by any chance.......
Everyone's talking about Grey! I will read it when the fuss has died down a bit and the library or friends have spare copies.
I'm not in any rush 'cos I'm not that interested but as said above, it's about keeping up with popular culture, that's all.
Only got up to page 30 so far but it has a heavy sexual undertone. Its building to something but not there yet!
Smooth1
Upto chapter 19! Still think it's a good read and I read a lot of books!
What's wrong with mummy porn? I have 3 children, 2 jobs AND I still find time for sexy meets especially at daytime swingers clubs, so I read in bed! Before i bought it I had no idea what "type" of book it was just that a few friends had started reading it. I actually also know a couple of guys who have read it. As for the dom/sub topic being 'soft' I,for one,am.
very glad it is soft.
Perhaps it would not sell as well, were it to contain hard bdsm practices. I would also suggest the majority of 'normal' people, by which i mean 'non swingers' would be more shocked of some of the hard dom/sub/bdsm practices. I would come to the opinion, that for some, it may be read/interpreted as a seductive and gentle introduction to the dom/sub fantasy and also perhaps more of a sexual eye opener to peak the interest of readers who are generally only into vanilla sex.
As for words used by the author repeatedly; I find this rather endearing and also commonplace with other authors having similar writing habits.

absolutly nothng wrong with mummy porn it most certainly has its place i purely meant that those within the swinging community that hear of a bdsm book might have higher expectations of it and may be dissapointed whereas as those not from our community may find it incredibly kinky and it will get them experimenting which can only be a good thing surely as its a great idea to get experimental with your sex life nothing worse than a staid sex life
i just think they may be in for a real shock if they were to find themselves an actual Dom thinking that they would get an actual Gray/Steele type relationship out of it would be a bit of an eye opener for them although i'm sure (or would hope) they would discover this in their journey to find one
After reading 50 shades of grey i found a review on Amazon that is spot on:
There are hundreds of reviews here and people are clearly split into two camps: the 5 stars `loved it', and the 1 star `hated it'. I'm in the latter. But for all the leaden, wooden, repetitive, frequently juvenile-sounding prose, and the profoundly unerotic sex scenes, this book is so awful that it's brilliant... in an unintentional kind of way.
Read aloud in the pub over a bottle or two, this provided hours of fun as our `heroine' took one look at Christian Grey's gray eyes (yes, really) and his messy hair, and the way his trousers hang "in that way" (what way?) and literally falls flat on her face in front of him. Clearly smitten by her cute innocence, Christian of the grey eyes, sculptured lips, and spicy scent is soon whipping out his little "foil packets", his riding crops and hand-cuffs, and giving our previously-virginal Ana multiple and seemingly instantaneous orgasms, all of which are "shattering".
We particularly enjoyed the way Christian manages most of his sexual exploits either fully-dressed (just a quick unzipping and a coy fiddle with a "foil packet") or with his shirt (always white linen) still on, while Ana bit her lip, and breathed `oh my!' for the umpteenth time.
So, really, this IS as bad as people say - but for barely more than two quid it managed to provide hours of derisive laughter.
ok need to know from the experienced...

I suppose the short answer is you just do.
For a lot of people in the BDSM scene the Dom/sub thing is more a mindset than an activity. It is not a 'sex thing' but it can include sex.
Yes it is roleplay, no one is saying they really become a slave to their master (ok most people don't say that ;)) but at its core it is about dominance and submission.
If the idea of Dom/sub makes you giggle then there is little chance that playing the roles will not result in laughter in the same way dressing as the German commander and the milk maid may make some fall around laughting but for others it is higher erotic.
The Dom/sub thing is like a lot of fetishes/interests, you either 'get it' or you don't, in the same way some people 'get' swinging and others don't.

Just been out and bought 50 shades of grey. I can honestly say it does not turn me on in the slightest. I just hope B&Q let me return all this f**king paint.

The 'Inner Goddess' thing doesn't bother me so much as I imagine them being actual little characters like a mini demon and mini angel on her shoulders. It's more the constant use of 'mercurial', describing his grey eyes (yep, they're grey, I got it the first time in the first book), 'running his hands over my sex' what? Haha! A real laugh out loud moment there with that one but at least the words 'pussy' or 'fanny' weren't used. I'm sure as I get through the final instalment I will have added to that list of irritation. lol
Apologies for repeated post as posting from my mobile phone. Just reaxhed chapter twenty one.... Now i am losing interest :-( i am agree godlike, nothing wrong with mummy porn!
I am a bit disheartened as i bought all 3 books wish i had stopped at one, as for facebook.... Just goes to show don't believe everything you read in the social media!

thanks green .. its not that i dont get it... i actually do ..... but all role play i find amusng when im acting it out,,,
I guess i dont have that mind set to control or be controlled xx
I hadn't heard of it until i read this thread, which i find odd as i'm an avid reader ! It wasn't on my facebook either. I looked on Amazon to see if it was worth adding to my Kindle but it got such bad reports that i won't bother and i'v had a look at some of the book and it's not something i would want to read anyway. Then this morning 2 of work mates who are on Facebook friends list were talking about it .... i was suprised that they want to read such drivel ! It's badly written and reads as if a teenager has written it lol.
