I'm about to do a very terrible thing and make you all remember the good old days lol
I'm about to get a car, my first one may i add, so i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to which one i should buy. There isn't a money problem but obviously i don't wanna shell out £4000 a year in insurance, so nothing too extravagant please smile
One more thing, what was everyones first car?
Someone must have had the reliant robin :lol2: rotflmao :lol2: :rotflmao:
850cc Seat Marbella Jeans Edition what a vehicle brings back memories mmmmmm
austin maxi.... more like a tank then a car.
I had a Nissan Sunny estate 1.6 - rotten piece of shite, ran it for 2 years ( last 6 months without a ticket ) and it was reliable, but utterly gutless. As for your own choice of car get a 4 or 5 door ( cheaper insurence ) and something utterly common like an Cavalier or Mondeo ( cheap spares from breakers ), find a local insurence broker ( or 10 ), go to him with a list of cars you'd like to own and get quotes based on standard motors and say 8k miles a year and just say you haven't bought the car yet, you just want to know how much a particular model is.
PS Do not buy a Citroen, their rear suspension is good - but if it goes tits up, it's bloody expensive - the name don't sound like the French for " Lemon " for nowt rolleyes If you think I can offer more opinions send me a PM. wink
Rover 100 Kensington in Aquamarine blue. Used to shake violently above 70mph and whose life was tragically cut short when my brother drove it into the back of a Skoda Octavia, thereby shortening it 3ft.
The first car I drove was a Consul Cortina Estate.
First one I owned was another Cortina Estate mk 4 (I think)
Wow what was my first car.... Renault Clio RT 1.2. Thank god i traded it in for a Honda CRV quickly. Im 6'3" and had to squeeze into the thing.
@lpha

First car was an old ford escort. Got it in anticipation of passing my test first time, waited for me till my third test. We bought about 20 cans of metallic green paint and sprayed it. Can't think why we did it green though, not my favourite colour. (no offence leprechaun). Must have been a job lot. Those were the days
 xxx

Not so strange peenut.... young fella here probably lives with his ma and pa... needs somewhere to take the ladies... and to travel to meets.
So I suggest some kind of estate... plenty of room... and you can always use it as a mobile B+B....
I drive a Pug 106... not good for either activity... especially if you are 6ft tall....
Past my test in 1977 and bought a 1974 metallic blue 1100 Escort Mk 1 which I then proceeded to modify or customise as it was called back then. By the time I had finished it, it had Wolfrace Slot Alloys, a blue fur interior (de rigeur back in them days!!) a pumping stereo (about 40watts total!!) and the obligatory red light shining on the rear axle!!
Ah..... those were the days..... sure I've gotta photo somewhere still
Thinking about it... it was a P O S really but it looked cool 25 years ago
After getting married, having sprogs and going through the usual range of 'family' cars I have gone full circle and now am in the process of modifying my van I use for DJ'ing although this is being done in the current style deffo NO fur interior!!)
This will take you all back. First car in the mid 1970s was a Fiat 500. Progressed from there through Hilman Minx, various mininis and MGs to smart BMW which promptly got nicked! Currently driving a Rover plus MG A for the summer months.
Have you ever thought about getting a usable everyday classic car? Several advantages such as low insurance, no road tax, easy to fix, no depreciation etc. Just have a look at prices in the car magazines - you can get MGs for £2,000 - £3,000 etc.
My first car was a Lada redface Pile of Russian junk. Gear box was awful. If you could use that you could use anything!
I had the short lived pleasure of owning a a 1973 soft top cal look Yellow beetle:1300 cool
couldn't accerlerate, couldn't turn, couldn't brake and definately could hardly see......but everyone heard you coming and loved it:P..
unfortunately lasted about 3 months before some stupid non-insured salope cut a corner and ruined it all
c'est la vie!
I am driving a loverly blue ford fiesta wich is my first car, it seams to overheat
but for 100£ who cares
MikeC
I LOVED my first car! I took my test in my Dad's 65 mustang and then was given a 1984 Rx7 for passing. I used to use the little storage spaces behind the seats for all my shoes and the back for......... wink
S xxx
mine was a left hand drive bmw 316 (well i was living in gemany at the time)
god i loved that car
mine (dino) was a cavalier auto ,top car , i now have a saab 900(my 6th one),i just love em , the old shape are a design classic in my view , so fuckin ugly but lovely cars. H`reds first car was a micra ,now has a celica . i reckon you wont go to far wrong with a micra, fiesta ,corsa, nova type as a first car cos your insurance is gonna be massive.
mine was a mark 1 escort - bright red with additional rust spots! Funny thing was no one told me it needed this weird stuff called oil and I ceased the engine!!!!!
I used the bus for a while after that - oops redface

BigBoi, how much do you want to spend really? If money is not an issue where cars are concerned then l know a very nice factory in Newport Pagnell wink
That's the Aston factory for the un-initiated, don't buy new, they lose a stack in depreciation :eeek: - but a V8 would be nice smile
Awww Jim, why'd you tell? I was hoping to con BigBoi into going there wink
Trite but true ! But anyways Bigboi, the big question is what do you want from your car?, like apart from being cheap etc....If you live in a city and just plan to go "round the houses" for most of the time , or if you will spend a lot of time on the open road or will want to carry a lot of stuff and/or your mates, or just going from A to B, only use it at weekends/evenings etc ?
I'm still waiting to buy my first car. We haven't needed one yet, wherever we lived.
I know what car I want too...
But, in High School my parents loaned me a car for a small fee... and I promptly set about trying to destroy it. Three major accidents in 4 months. It hung on tho. Saved my life twice. Named it battle cat... and my parents just donated it to a church in september.
sniff... I really miss her.

I was actually really interested in getting a rover. Probably because of the recent headlines though. My budgets about 6 grand because my original idea was to buy cheap and do it up.
And if anyones wondering, i don't live with my parents lol, i'm in a house with 3 other noisy roommates
My first car was a Ford Capri 3 litre xl i think ~~ loved that car ~~ gold black vinyl roof ~~ Clio Xx
