For Three Very Special People

This may seem a bit of a silly post to be putting on the forum butâ€¦â€¦..
On Monday night my youngest daughter, who is nearly 15, came down stairs after having a shower and ask me to go up stairs with her cause she had something to show me.
What I saw shocked me slightly. My daughter has beautiful long brown hair that is in lovely condition, she showed me a huge clump of hair that had fallen out. She was really upset as she thought she had a bald patch.
To cut a long story short, between Monday night and Wednesday night my beautiful daughterâ€™s hair all fell out. She was absolute devastated.
But, everyone rallied round her, and tonight at Tattyâ€™s house two very special people did something for my daughter that I will forever be grateful for.
My daughter only had a few clumps of hair left so tonight she decide to have it shaved off. Just after Mr Tigâ€™s stepped up and sat down and my daughter had the greatest pleasure in shaving her step dadâ€™s hair, but he went one better and actual then took a razor to it as well.
After this up stepped KBUK, what a wonderful friend. He also had his hair shaven. They both did this to support my daughter through this terrible stage in her life.
Even Tatty said that if she wasnâ€™t going up for the Glasgow munch this weekend she would have even shaved her head for her.
I just want to say a huge big Thank You to these 3 wonderful people. You showed my daughter that you really cared and she has decided to call them The Three Baldateers.

Hugely heartwarming response from some obviously good friends.
BUT . . .
Why has this happened? Trichologists will tell you that sudden hair loss is almost always a result of major trauma/shock. So, is she being bullied, has there been a recent family crisis, or is there some other major problem?
Anything medical?
I'm not wishing to be alarmist, but kids just don't suddenly lose their hair for no reason.

Yes she now looks exactly like Mr Tigs and KBUK lol

Seriously though, she has Alopecia brought on by a rare side effects from a drug perscribed by her doctor. We only hope that when the medication is out of her system her hair will re-grow.

Aaawwwwwwww Tigers.... I know how she feels to a point as last year I had a big clump of hair just disappear overnight... I was so worried about it and I spent all my time checking to see if it had got any bigger....
Hopefully it will grow back just as mine has....

At least you know why this has happened, but it would have been nice if your specialist had given you a 'heads-up' to expect it.

im sure she will grow it back in time.....
and if id of been there she could of shaved mine too....tohugh that wouldnt take long im afraid....

Our daughter is putting on a really brave face, and making jokes left right and centre. She is happy about one thing though, she will now be able to have the black hair she has always wanted, in the shape of a wig. She has also agreed to have a blonde one, for those special :lol: days/moments, at least that way she can blame the hair
Because of the type of Alopecia she has, we are hoping that it will grow back, but there is only a 30/50% chance that it will, but we are hoping her chances are higher as only part of the cause was medication.

As others have said - this just goes to show the character of many who frequent this site!
Shame the press never pick up on this side.
I hope all goes well with your daughter!
To have something like this happen in the mid teen years must have been devastating for the young woman.
She sounds as if she is one hell of a girl to handle it in the way she is doing.
You must be very proud of her. I know I would be.
And I have also got great admiration for the way you have all rallied round and helped.

Mrs Tigs ....
My 10 year old stepdaughter's hair which was waist length and a stunning ginger colour fell out last year when she started treatment for leukaemia, whilst all the family thought that she would be devastated she took it better that we expected and although she had a wig has rarely (if ever) worn it. She displayed her head at every opportunity and when it eventually grew back, she started charging people a Â£1 to rub it wink

She's now got a good length on her hair and loves the way she looks.
I hope it regrows back soon, thinking of your daughter
