Hi peeps
This is not a spam item.
Just been sent this from a NHS friend of mine and it makes scence to me. >>>>
Please read it and take the action as noted. >>>>>
In view of yesterdays events in London, East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a national "In case of Emergency ( ICE ) " .
The idea is that you store the word " I C E " in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency".
In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them. It's so simple that everyone can do it. Please will you also forward this to everybody in your address book, it won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life.
For more than one contact name ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 etc

I am sure Fabio and Olive may have heard of it and I would like any feedback from the item. I URGE ALL OF YOU TO DO IT, you know it makes scence
Fred

Heard about this on the radio this morning and thought what a simple but brilliant idea.
Why is it that these ideas come to the fore when there has been a tragedy???
I also will use this idea and urge everyone else to follow suit.

Oh that's just flippin' great isn't it. Half the people in the cafe have already got "ICE" on their mobiles and... look, people, it's not that I don't love you all to bits, but I don't really want fifty calls from the hospital when you all do something daft and dangerous en masse. Would you therefore please remember to wear the appropriate protective clothing when you go paintballing, and when you do a group nude parachute jump, make sure there's a rucksack-type thingy on your back before you leave the aircraft.
Thank you. biggrin
Ice
Very good idea. It would also be a good idea for children.

Hi
Not a newbie as I have been a member on here for quite some time ....but a virgin poster never the less.
I recently recived the e-mail re the ICE (In Case of Emergency) number and thought it was a very good idea. Today, however, I received the following mail from the same (reputable) source.
Not sure how this can be verified either way. confused:
Beware of ICE
Many people have received emails about the ICE system. It is alleged that, following the disaster in London, East Anglian Ambulance Service have launched a national "In case of Emergency ( ICE ) " campaign with the support of Falklands war hero Simon Weston. The idea is that people store the word " I C E " in their mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person they would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency". The Trust has now been informed that this is not only a hoax, but a means of planting a virus in mobile 'phones which when activated causes the user to pay for calls they have not made.
In view of the interest in the system we said we would look further into it. Out advice now is if you have put ICE into your mobile phone you should permanently delete it. If anything further is heard we will let you know. Please print this email for any colleagues who do not have access to the Outlook system

I am assured that this ^^^^^^ above is the hoax.
How can you put the word ICE into your address book attach your home, or loved ones telephone number to and activate a virus from that number ??
I have just tried it and the good lady down stairs wants to know what I am playing at ringing my own number. Told her I wanted coffee lol.
This is also the first I know of Simon Weston being involved in this.
I am waiting for further info from my informant and will keep you updated.
Fred
I must admit that I've been told by many a health professional that they are unlikely to use I C E to contact anyone, there is no proof that the phone is yours if you are so incapacitated.
It's a good idea, not so sure of it's practice working.

i did this about two months ago, after seeing it on this morning. It carnt hurt !!!!!
very positive idea and can only help
surely _ ( name )

Picture the scene, if you will >>>>>>>
SXBOY walking down the road, collapses with a Cardiac Arrest (god forbid) has his mobile phone in his pocket. Fine Medic1 says = I will notify his next of kin on his mobile.
Go to address book and there are about 60 names in there = Who do I phone ?
Now if "ICE" had been in there, no problem just a simple case of calling that number.
End of scene <<<<<
Make scence now why ICE and not just any name ?
Fred
ps === and also "virus" free
I am with Fred on this one as someone who is involve with treating people it is ideal
I have it on my fone and I have encouraged all of my family and friends to put it on their fones too

Judy Hun
Would I dare rummage through a ladies handbag wink
No hun I was making, or trying to make a point. The first priority would always be the patient. CPR or any emergency treatment would be administered first.
If I am in attendance as a paramedic the 999 will have been made, you, as the patient, would have been stabilised with no time wasted. Now is the time to maybe start looking for maybe an "ICE" number.
Maybe I should have chosen a better scenario
Thanks for the input and hope to see you Saturday.
