I took my Valentine to a country house hotel in the grand style yesterday. Best suit, she looked terrific. A nice drive in the country, the full nine yards with service and the damask table linen etc, open fires, several courses taken slowly and some decently grovelling waiters.
A drive home, an hour or two of love-making, a bottle of something fizzy in bed. Yes it had the wow factor in spades, but I'm getting older and it's the kind of day out that appeals to me these days.
