I work in broadband, just for a totally different company,.. lets see if we can get it sorted without having to fart about speaking to BT
Has it worked before even just the once??
Are we talking laptop or desktop?
Laptop.
The wireless thingie ( plugs into USB port ) recognises the wireless router and the wireless router recognises the wireless thingy but the two dont want to play together !!
Before I moved into my house I was staying at my moms and I was able to go wireless there using same wireless thingy ( dear lord what is it called? )
Any help appreciated.
Ok, so the wireless adaptor is pairing with the router?
Have you set up a new wireless conection using the network wizard?
yes .... she says with confidence ?? Just kidding ... yes I did all that. Uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times.
I've sent you a PM, don't want to clutter up the forum...
OK, going to check now while still listening to the annoying recorded message !!!!
Help Desk
When setting up anything with a difficult propose best to get rid of the difficult bit in the title. So the staff are under-paid and under-trained, less than able to help, so we must have help in the title. It will make customers think we mean to help, instead of making money. There is not a desk anywhere near help desk, just a bench, computer and telephone. Staff will feel better if they work at a white collar desk, not a blue collar bench.

The rest we can muddle through later, now the title is right.
From Help Desk;
if it has an on/off switch, switch it off, count to ten SLOWLY, then switch it on again. If that does not work I'll get the guy in the beard.
On answering the phone you will hear the numerous options to get through to the section/person you want.
Well............Just keep hitting the number 1 .When you get through to someone simply ask for whom you initially wanted and 9 times out of ten the put you straight through.
Works about 75% of time ( you can obviously choose your own number but it probably makes no difference
