I did use them a few times with the ex, but we both weren't that fond of them. Having to wear them made a difference.

I would definately suggest a different condom brand. Trying different stuff in the same range seems to make little odds at times, but a different brand makes all the difference.
I personally found that the 'famly planning' joe blow basic condoms resulted in numbnes or early endings depending on the weather. Using another brand that I bought in bulk and were therefore both reasonably priced and better than famly planning wellys allowed me to have virtually normal sex.
For me the only real difference between condom and no condom is those 5 seconds when your putting it on... which means you can no longer supprise your lady with a quick bit of rod after half an hour of tounge. I like the wetter warmer feel of no condom... but I can happily live without it for that feeling of relative safety one provides.
