Why does my surname make any difference Roger, everytime I log on to SH everybody can see my name and those that know me no I am online and can check my are people who come on SH and deliberately hide so that you don't know they are online, that to me seems mischevious and a complete waste of time how are you going to meet someone if nobody knows you are there.

To get back on track - I hid my 'online status' for a few days a couple of weeks ago as I was receiving unwanted messages via PM and as soon as I logged on. After a few days I put my online status back to visible and this seemed to cure the problem. So, I wasn't being Misschief-ous or feeling ashamed; just trying to put an end to a problem.

So I fail to see the difference between hiding online status and masking your real identity?
95% of the time I have a real pic of me as my avatar, and Alexandra is my real name,
However I frequently have my online status as hidden, for the same reasons as others. Often I am loggen in, but busy - either away from the PC or working at the PC. Being hidden means I don't appear rude if I don't reply to a PM or a post.
It has absolutely nothing to do with being ashamed. Far from it. I can honestly say that I am quite proud to be a member of this site!

It is not very often I hide so to speak. Sometimes I like to pop on and join in a thread, but not really upto talking in pm or whatever. I think if you come on and find say 3 to 4 pms, and some of the people are on you feel obliged to reply asap, when really you want to do it the next day? It is how you feel I guess, and nothing meant by it, I feel we all sometimes just want to be that bit alone even if we are posting, it may seem daft, but then we are all different.

im not the only one that does this , there is a gang of us that do it, i know one young lady that really enjoys a quick fiddle with a bean bag when you least expect it.

i am hidden.. though it has not stopped me having meets or getting to know people.
infact.. the only thing it seems to have stopped are the unwated pm's from onetime posters who come on looking for a victim for imediate fun.
i dont think it is sneaky at all.....infact i would go so far as to say its irellevent!
