yep no problem been in & out 3 times tonight
ive been having the same prob almost weekly ever since microsoft came up with thier security measure of changing passwords every 6 months , and it only affects my msn or addy's not my ntl one that i also use on msn
so all i can surgest is heading off to the site and seeing if it lets you on there or not and usually if it doesnt ull get the p/word change system up.
hope that helps smile

Mmmm interesting.
I have more or less given up with it all and moved over to . The messenger seems very steady and doesn't fall over the same. The downtime with messenger is none over the last few months and the new beta version has stacks of features. I think we may have been overdosed on MSN, and all of Bills other bits and pieces. I do rather like the stuff and have been using their mail system for over a year.
Judy .......I want to break free.

we use ourselfs and have to agree it is a far better system .. the only prob we have is getting everyone else to change aswell so we're still using msn for a bit
another idea that just poped into my head , try mirander or one of the im like it , means you can log into msn, , icq and AIM from the same messenger , then i guess youd know if its ur comp or msn itself thats mucked up

I binned some time ago cos I was having problems signing in and MSN messenger was crap. I only use now. Denise uses however and doesn't appear to be having problems.
I had problems with & msn about three years back so moved over to brill never had problem & the latest version of messenger down loaded last night is fantastic
I've had this a few times ( especially trying to get onto msn community sites ) and the only way i've found to sort it is to click on tools on Explorer , select Internet Options , delete the Cookies and clear the history then reboot the machine.
Apparently its a problem with a session cookie that "should" delete itself once you log out / change web site but it doesn't it sticks and becomes corrupt ( typical msn shyteware lol ). Doesn't work all the time but i've found it works 90% of the time. If you still have problems then do the above again then run a full system clean up ( i've it set in system maintenance wizard to clean up all the junk files off the drives , run scandisk then run defrag ) and that should sort it out as well as speeding up your pc.
Before doing any maintenance do the following. Right click on all the little icon's beside your clock ( WinME users beside the clock , not 100% sure XP shows them all ) and exit them ( make sure that anti-virus and firewall are off as these will interfere with the maintenance ). Once you've done that ( again WinME not 100% sure about XP ) do Ctrl+Alt+Del , select the files MAKE SURE NOT TO CLOSE SYSTRAY OR EXPLORER and click on End Task , some will need to have this done 4 times some will come up straight away that the file isnt responding so use end task again on them. The maintenance will work without interuption after this but due to the size of modern PC's hard drives I suggest the best time to do this is over night or start it in the morning before you go to work and let it work away thru the day.

i can manage to log into , but cannot get logged into msn messenger.
this isnt a problem for me as i dont like msn messenger. ive been on for around 5 years now and it so much more user friendly than msn. small things like putting a web cam on, you dont seem to have the option with msn to show or not, if its on they can see?? maybe this has changed lately ?
another thing is i dont always want to chat or been seen as visable, however on msn if you do this people cant contact you.
ok my moan over , only advise i can give you is go over to messenger.

humm been asked to swap lots of things never a problem,

I've been having problems for the last few days on one of my accts but every other one is ok! Just wondering if the server it's trying to get to is bollox'd ... cleared cookies etc to no avail. Annoying to say the least! Microsoft help are no use at all evil
Does anyone know why wants me to change my proxy's before I can sign in?
And what are proxy's? dunno
ive never had a problem with msn EVER! i love my msn
where as has given me more problems over the years than anything, i hate and all that it stands for..DIE YA FOOKER! lol
There are so many systems although msn is almost an essential to have, as so many people are on it. But there are many options, the only problem is having to install and run so many different programs to be able to use them all. But there is a solution!
I know people who won't use msn, and people who are just happy with an account elsewhere (aol, jabber, icq, , ) so I have accounts with all of them. It used to be a complete pain and slow my pc down considerably running all of them until I discovered you can get programs that can do all/most of them, integrate with my mail client at the same time and are way more customisable (always a thing in my books) than the programs provided, and skip the advertising too.
's a good one, comes in Linux (the one I use) or Windows, and maybe even Mac flavours. You can give it aliases for your contact names to help you remember who they are - something that always bugs me about some of the clients, whoever someone's signed as, if it's not someone you contact regularly, I sometimes don't know who it is if I've had them on my contacts for a while. Gaim isn't the only one but it's free, open source, and there are a few plugins for doing other stuff with.
The only problem with using non-provided applications for them all is it's can take a while to catch up with new features as msn or whoever add them, and not always as stable. But it beats having 5 or 6 different clients running. Especially if I want to set a particular 'away' message for all of them in one go.

A proxy is
A computer and associated software that provides clients behind a firewall with a trusted agent that can access the Web on their behalf, while not revealing their IP addresses.

msn and msn working fine here lol

They work fine on my laptop but they just wont work on my main PC even after doing everything suggested here (twice). I think its a mater of those who have had trouble with hot-mail and MSN messenger and those who haven't .....yet. A lot of people do seem to find it troublesome.
After seeing all the posts here I have decided that I will just continue to use and dump MSN altogether now, seeing as has been working well and very stable. Also I do like the new beta version for messenger the simple one stop voice call on cam to cam is very user friendly and uses either a head set or the cams own mic to mic with a simple click. They have a new photo sending service too where it hosts the photos for you so it doesn't clog up the in box of who you send the images to. No need for attachments to emails as it puts the image in the main body of the email. Very impressive.

was causing 2 many problems so we just took it out ,think it better to stick with a messenger that's works best you you
I got this from a website, this is what I'd do:
This error also occurs when you are not connected to the Internet, so make sure you are connected.
The most likely cause for this problem is that your firewall does not allow MSN Messenger to access the Internet. This happens often if you install a new version of Messenger. Make sure MSN Messenger is allowed access in your firewall rules. See our article on using MSN Messenger through a firewall application.
This error might also be occuring because there is a proxy server enabled in MSN Messenger while you do not use one. To remove the proxy settings, click the "Tools" menu and then "Options..." at your MSN Messenger main window. Then in the options screen click "Connection" in the list to the left. Next, click the "Advanced Settings..." button. You can try and uncheck all checkboxes in this screen except the one labeled "TCP" to let MSN Messenger connect through a direct connection. If that does not work you can restore the settings again by checking the boxes you unchecked before.
