as the old saying goes " if we could only see ourselves as others see us", got me to wondering ! I know I am a man in his forties, balding , shrinking , getting more hairy on the parts that least need it , have a paunch of sorts lol, wrinkles, getting more grumpy as the days go by , etc.
now when I look in the mirror I have convinced my self that I don`t look like the guy I have just described , but am ten years younger at least ....also when I look at people who are my age I think that I have aged better than them.
so is this self delusion ........or what?
Mirrors are not a true reflectionthey distort the fact. Thay make you look bigger than you are due to some science i don't understand as it's beyond my intelect.
The only thing that can see the real us are other people unfortunatly.
i can really appreciate what you're saying here Rob
i see a different person when i look in the mirror to the person i see in photographs.
i think i look good in the mirror but terrible in pics
Also i have a portrait picture on the wall in my lounge of me when i was 18... the amount of people ( especially women) who see it and ask who it is astounds me. Even worse when said ladies say " he's fit... who's that?"................even worse when they remark that they'd "shag him , no problem !!!!!"
WTF is all i can say
I remember my gran telling me, when I was about 15, that she'd look in the mirror and not recognise herself. In her head she was still 23. I didn't quite understand what she meant at the time but I do now, except my stop off age was 19.
When I was little I thought that something would happen to you one day and you'd become a 'grown up', but it doesn't work like that. Some people were born middle aged and some will always be young at heart. Age isn't measured in years - it's a state of mind.
The mutton dressed as lamb thing worries me a little, but I figure so long as I'm comfortable wearing what I wear, why shouldn't I? There are things I wont do these days like wear a bikini. I'm sure at some point I'll end up in a twin set and pearls - but hopefully it'll be for a fancy dress party.

Oh how i see myself is this
Through my eyes im balding, with a belly which has gone a horrible shape, spindle legged and armed and too hairy.
In my head i'm 20's and think i can still do some of the stuff i did in my 20's
It's not that they distort, it's that they show a mirror image - that's why, when you look at pictures of yourself, they never really look like you. Look at a picture of you in a mirror and you'll recognise it. People with more unsymetrical faces have more of a problem.
When artists do sculptures of people, they tend to do them 1/3 bigger - because if they're life size they look too small. I have no idea why - but I'm sure someone will come along and tell us.

i see a thinner person, i know i dont see myself the way others do, if i did i would go on a feckin diet, every now and then a picture or something makes me see the real me, but i ignore it and go back to the fiction lol
Earthy xx
Its what you feel on the inside that counts.
(damn..I need to stop the smoking and hangovers)
Or how about we forget the scary self analysis and concentrate on others feeling our insides lol?
