Unfortunately, never took cycling proficency, why has no-one yet made a joke about being really good at riding or did I miss something?
because we're all too high-brow for such lowly quips.
Marms.
5 GSCE's
1 A/S
Cycling proficiency (but my brother won a regional comp so he's better at riding than I lol )
RAF Flying Scholarship
LGV CAT C (HGC Class 2)
PPL (Private Pilots Licence well it lapsed, but I'm renewing it this year)
Not wishing to denigrate the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award paddlers and defective brake-block specialists, what about serious non-academic qualifications?
The most useful examination I ever obtained was my Class 1 HGV.
The second was a builder's diploma (in French)
The third was an NLP quickie diploma which has subsequently given me so much pleasure I'd recommend it to anyone with a sense of curiosity.
I've also been accepted twice as a mature student, to do Law and IT degrees, but each time I couldn't take up the offer.
And I speak 4 foreign languages.
"So, if you're so clever, why are you driving trucks for rock bands instead of making millions somewhere," asked my wife when I told her of this quiz.
Degree in Sport and Excersise Science and now working as Commercial Manager for a plastic distribution company, go figure the link in that move!
I did however have a thoroughly enjoyable time at Uni and spent a great deal of time 'working' with the ladies English Netball team

Sorry we must be the thick couple,so obviously don't belong on this site redface
I went as far as A levels and Clare did a childcare course until we had our own kids and then thought "fuck that" to looking after other peoples kids. lol
So we'll just go off and sit in the corner with the dunce hats on

a.k.a. mister thickie

Nope, another thickie here .... I have GCSE's and an NVQ apart from secretarial qualifications. I'm a firm believer in ability though ... having run two companies and a voluntary project without formal qualifications.
Morbius was a truck driver ..... did his access course and is partway through a BSC (Hons) in Forensic Science (am going to ram this mouse up Morbius backside if he doesn't leave me alone whilst I'm typing this.
I always said I'd go to Uni post children and I will ... not sure whether to do a Complementary Health Degree or Midwifery.

Anymore Manchester deviants (as WBB puts it) wink . This could be a long list.
Busty now that you are doing your post grad do I have to bow before you at the next NW Munch? I don't mind being on my knees or even all fours  .

Hi
I am academically thick...can't remember a damn thing in quizzes etc confused
Didn’t take any exams and I am useless at general knowledge, also English etc redface
However, a qualifications does not signify intelligence...(could be a good memory)
I am a member of Mensa.. cool
....after reading the achievments of everyone in this thread it suddenly dawns on davej that his coveted bronze medal from the Fifi L'amour School of Ballroom Dance and Tap, stand for fLuck all and goes off in search of a small pair of swimming trunks that were adourned with some very nice coloured ribbons, to see if they are anymore impressive.......
Can't claim any qualifications here although that hasn't proved to being a hinderence yet. I guess I have been lucky up until now, alhough I am under no illusion that if I were forced to compete in the jobs market these days, I would be at a serious disadvantage because of it, but hey ho that bridge has yet to be crossed.
Without looking at the poll results, I think it's fairly clear from the quality of a lot of the stuff on this site that the average level of intelligence among the members is high. I'm not necessarily equating intelligence with academic success because I know that's not always the case, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a higher than average proportion of degrees up there, simply because a lot of people on here seem extremely knowledgable about a lot of things. That said, I would never make any sort of judgement about a person's intellectual worth based on their qualifications. If I'm to form an impression of the quality of someone's mind, I'll do it on the basis of how they present themselves now, rather than 20 years ago.

Couldn't agree more! The most intellegent people I know are not the ones with the highest academic qual.

I've been a fully fledged member of DENSA
for years!! wink
KinkyLizard
As a well-qualified single bloke, I feel that I have not utilised my qualifications to their full extent. Hence I trawl through here looking for some kind woman or couple to help me re-visit some "o" and "a", perhaps even to completion.

Qualifications??? redface
None but my 8 O Levels..........
I left school at 16 as my chosen career (skating) didn't require them. (I have lots of skating qualifications & cups, medals etc - but I they don't count)
However over 30 years on I now have a good job in IT in a company where it seems you now have to have a degree to even get an interview! I do have to admit I can't understand why they insist on this as from my experience in managing staff in this industry - a degree is no guarantee for being capable to do the job.
So I can't claim to be intellectual, I am not as well read as many on here, my grammar and punctuation isn't always correct. But like so many others on here I do hope I come across as a normal, relatively interesting, sometimes amusing and, most of all, caring human being - these are the only really important qualifications I have.
At Grammar school I was distinctly average.. The only subjects I did well in where the ones I loved.. History, English and Geography.. Plus any sport going..
I left with 4 O Levels
Have worked in IT since 17 and rose to Departmental Director. Big job, very well paid.. blah, blah, blah
I left it last year (with a severance payoff)_ and am taking a year out to improve my awful golf game and spend more time with my son.
When I go back to work (and hopefully someone will give me a job) it will be for something that will not kill me, stress me out to the max or make me dread going in to the office.

Funny isn't it Paul.
If we left school with only those qualifications now - we wouldn't have a hope of getting into our industry!
I fully understand what you say about stress though - I think that is why I come on here so regularly - essential stress relief!

I dropped out of high school (in the U.S.) at age 15 and toodled around mindlessly for a year until I was old enough to take my HS equivalency test and get a diploma. Went on to college and got my two-year degree.
Then it all went kinda funny: It was the early-'80s, and personal computers were just finding their way into schools in the U.S., but there was a dramatic shortage of qualified teachers. I'd been a computer hobbyist since around '77, when I bought my first Radio Shack TRS-80 and taught myself how to program (since there wasn't really much in the way of commercially available software in those early days). The college I'd attended was desperate, and offered to accelerate me through their Master's program so I could get my teaching certificate. One year and countless written examinations later, I got my Master's equivalency and began to teach computer science there (even got to write my own textbook on BASIC programming!).
Thus, I checked Master's...even though I don't feel it's totally legit since I didn't "do the time".

No worries, it didn't last long. Shortly after that, I'd scrapped the TRS-80, got myself a Commodore PET and learned to program in a real language (APL)! ;)

I've probably read it :!:
I've also got a certificate for "There's a Visitor at every corner"

Ah, you're familiar with APL then? It does have a way of invading your thoughts and dreams, propelling you into non-linear realities and increasing your appreciation of Yes music!
Btw, the textbook was BASIC Language Programming for the Beginner by Crabtree, Stack & Smith (first printing in '84). Had lots of fun with that one, including acronyms such as CRAP ("CRAsh Proof"), TURD ("Totally Un-Readable Documentation") and RUM (a distilled beverage made from fermented cane products).
~Reese! surprised
Reese,
If it was printed as late as '84 I probably haven't read it as I was into COBOL and C by '83. Funnily enough, the title does ring a bell. May go and have a ferret about in the loft later and see if I have it.
I've also got an "On the Job Training" certificate from the HCITB! I'll leave it your own imagination...
(These certificate mentions are so I can't be villified for hijacking the thread redface )
I started on a Sinclair +2, cutting edge I tells ya biggrin
