Where do you get that idea from dunno
The thread has been started as a dig at one specific person (IMHO anyway) and to be honest its a bit of a sly way of doing things really ....
It is quite important to me. I think partly from a professional level but also there is a "general standards" level.
I'm a PA, I was trained to type correctly and accurately, in terms of spelling, layout and grammar. I spend a large part of my day proof-reading and it is difficult to switch it off after nearly 20 years of doing it professionally. I find coming online and reading forums difficult when they are full of text speak, grammatically incorrect, lack basic punctuation and spelling mistakes. sad All of us receive this as basic education when we are aged 5 upwards and in my own eyes there are few excuses (bar dyslexia).
At a general standards level, I think it reflects society as a whole :( People just can't be bothered any more, it's ok saying it doesn't matter to me and that reflects society, full of apathy :(.
I don't profess to be accurate on spelling etc all of the time, there is possibly an error or two in this post and I don't criticise other people because I don't know their circumstances. Txt speak there is absolutely no excuse for though and I would ask someone not to post as such.
It isn't enough to stop me from liking someone etc but irritates me no end about the internet in general.

I agree.
It's like I keep saying.... I wish people would acknowledge EVERYONE has a right to post their OWN thoughts on here. And maybe starting a thread and pulling a person apart for doing something is every bit as bad as the supposed thing that upset the author in the first place...
Why can't everyone just say what they want, I bored with this 'she said this, he said that'.
People.. please post your thoughts then go have some fun... wink

But then that the point, who the hell is going to have fun with me?
i'm lazy and illitarate because my spelling and grammer is not up to other peoples standards!
i'm just really sick of trying to live up to other peoples standards!
i'm now at the point were i'm so self concious it to the point of paranoia.
It's not your looks that's important it your personality! ok well unfortuantly my learning disablity is part of my personality,
But now your saying that its actualy detrimental because people don't want to have fun with people who arn't literate or interlectural.
And how the hell someone's abitlty to spell can even be compared to intelligent i dont friggin know
and if your interested it has taken me 15 minutes to write this reply as i have had to carefull check to make sure i haven't made any mistake

In another thread, after being pulled up for his spelling, a poster has defended himself, saying that he is dyslexic. This is followed by a critical post, about people "claiming to be dyslexic".

The mentioned member that said he has dyslexia, is me.
In the end if people want to judge me or rate me on the basis of my spelling...well that's up too them.
Am Mixed Race living in Liverpool that's the biggest issue I've got & have been dealing with since birth.
Have a read of my many Posts, in my view am one of the best at them on this site. Due to the things that other fellow members have said either within the Froum, PM or events like Muches / Social's.
Let's just throw away the judgements & become free.
Yet am not down with the use of Text Language, use the old school way so everybody can understand.
As if people don't then what is the use in creating the Post?
Free your mind & your ass will follow....

Garfield... I've always liked your posting style and I find you quite amusing... If I were to meet and have fun with you pussycat it would be for your personality not your typing... now you are being facetious which isn't your posting style.

This thread was not started as a dig at anyone. It was a question as to how people felt about people's posts being challenged on their spelling - exactly what it says on the tin.

For some time now I have been getting increasing annoyed at posts being criticised because of the author's spelling.
In another thread, after being pulled up for his spelling, a poster has defended himself, saying that he is dyslexic. This is followed by a critical post, about people "claiming to be dyslexic".

Seems like its digging at one paricular incident to me....

As the first line of my thread states, I have been feeling this way for some time. This is NOT about one particular thread.
I gave an example using that particular thread because it is the most recent example to illustrate what I wanted to say.

Spelling depends on the circumstances.
Angelica quite often gets PMs from blokes who describe themselves as 'profesionals' - yeah right! rolleyes
Useful little indicator that!

Hang on Jaymar - if everyone has a right to post their own thoughts on here - aren't I entitled to my opinion too?
I haven't pulled anyone apart - I have asked people's feelings on an issue which concerns me.

that's the way I read the questioning of the original post also... never mind any percieved 'back politics'.
Spelling... an issue?
surely not... this isn't a symposium on educational standards is it?
Are we not relaxing and supposedly enjoying ourselves in these here parts?
I for one simply cannot be arsed to check and recheck what I type here so that I might 'come across' well.
Though I will agree that I have seen ... over time... the pulling-up and belittling of some posters due to thier spelling and grammar in threads and posts where that shouldn't have been an issue in the least.
Not always friendly, familiar or generally nice.
When I have noticed it, it has detracted from the theme of the thread, and belittled the previous poster... in a way that I have percieved as rather an 'attack'... a 'scoring of points'
However, in less contentious threads, a little light banter and a quoted 'mistake' for fun can be just that... fun.. otherwise, it's just plain nasty

Dearest Members,
Please just relax. Am fine with what's been said.
All let's enjoy the weekend as we have enough shite to deal with during the 'working week'.
Am feeling that this is going places that it wasn't meant to go
.
Let's all become friends & find love in our hearts.
Peace in the Middle East & also in Swinging Heaven.
