I was posting away just a short while ago, when I thought to myself... I wonder how I sound to other people?
There has been another thread running about how people may 'appear' to others on the fora, but what about the voice?
I dont know abput you lot, but very often when reading a responce in the forum, especially from a character I have seen around in here for a bit, formed an opinion of, I start to 'voice' them as I read back thier words.
Not litterally you understand, I'm not sat speaking aloud in accents of the globe, pulling faces to reflect the posters apparent state of mind!
But the voices are in my head... quite clear at times too.
I wonder how wrong I am though?
It even happens to my own posts, should I bother to read them back.
If Im simply posting my usual tosh, I sound like... well, me.
Admitedly there is tone and inflection, which is of course lost on the forum, indeed, it's lost on the person I may be speaking to face-to-face most of the time!
But I just noticed when reading back what I thought was a fairly sensible post, my 'voice' had morphed into a strange hybrid of Kenneth Williams and Dame Edna Everidge.
Most odd.

I don't know if it is truly a "voice" as such, but in my mind when I have got an idea of what a personality is like on the forum, I tend to give them a face in terms of a character, well known, from TV and fiction that shares similar opinions, beliefs etc. Or they may just talk in a way that reminds me of someone so in my mind when I read something they have posted, they become that person.

I adore voices and find them a turn on and turn off in equal measure.
In my head you all have voices and I know I would be gutted to hear some of you for real.
Computer mediated communication loses such a lot of the prosodic features that go with spoken face-to-face interaction. In order to make it fun then yeah, I have to 'voice' stuff in my head.

I must have a very dull imagination. You are all just your avatars or in the case of a few some of your profile pics in my head. I dont put voices on anyone its just my voice in my head maybe in a slightly lighter tone than I use day to day.
If you wish to be accurate and save disappointment when you meet me and Mrs Tweeky we just sound like farmers, somerset ones. Thats according to just about everyone I have ever met from north of Birmingham.
Some good practice phrases for us would be
"Ive got a brand new combine harvester"
Or to go for a South Bristol accent
"I takes heroine I does"
