You don't have to drink alchohol in a pub, they do soft drinks as well. Of course it is a bit of a stigma in the Uni bar to not drink alchohol (well it was in my day anyway).

Damn - you got me.... maybe that's where I've been going wrong all of these years wink

I doubt it babes
just because you dont drink doesnt mean you cant go to social places like pubs and clubs.
chat up lines are a bit cheesey, just go and speak to a lassie. gadz, i wish i could take you out and sho you how to do it lol.
one thing you need to remember is that that girl, if she rejects you, she'll prob never see you again, so just go for it!
offer them a drink, but make sure they come to the bar with you, (mainly because of all this stuff, just to ease her mind, make sure she tkaes the drink from the bartender and you dont touch it, cant be too careful) while your waiting to be served just make idle chit chat, you'll either clcik or you don't
body language is cruicial as well, is kinda lets you know whether a girl is interested or not.
also, if there is a group of 3 or so girls, if you get chatting to them, stand in the middlof the group, they will instinctively compete for your attention.
you WILL get knocked back, everyone does. but thet sweet is never as sweet, without the sour smile
hit google little buddy, search for some of the things i listed. its not an exact science, but trial and error is the name of the game.
hope this helps
cheers

Hi everyone,
My name's Simon and im 18 (this is 100% true), and I've just started a new uni course, where I only know 1 guy (well), and 1 girl (a really tiny bit). I'm a guy by the way.
The course is an art course, so needless to say, it's got tons and tons of really cute fit girls on it (dont want to sound like some chauvanist pig here) who are really 'my kinda girls' if you get me.
Basically, I've never had a girlfriend once, never even a girl who was a friend, and I'm sick and tired of it. Everyone else has got a boy/girlfriend, and I swear I'm the only person ever to have not had sex yet.
Anyway, you people on here seem like altogether nice genuine people, so I figure here would be a good place to ask about how to go about getting a girlfriend. I really need the absolute basics here! What can I do? All I want is just one girl to like me (a lot if you get what I mean)!
Please note! I am not some plug ugly gorilla-man, I've just only had friends who have been guys for the last 10 or so years.
So anyway...Thanks everyone!
Simon.

Simon, Whatever you do learn to interact with the real world. You have received some good advise but don't stay here too long or you will become dazzled in the headlights adn forget where you need to go. You have common interests with lots of women on your course even if it just about the Art....find questions that come from you and are not false - 'what do you think about ...xxxx? ' find common ground' - you all are away from home, in a new town so use that as an intro - what do you think about xxxtown - have you found any good bars etc - try the obvious ... hang out with some mates and let things develop...
Just stay in the real world, Not in cyber space, try that later
There has been some really good advice on here (well done guys)
Just talk to those you're staying with and on your course (not toooooo much) and be yourself make friends and then hopfully all of it will fall into place. Girls always love a LISTENER

Oooh miaow!
I think a dating site at this stage would be way too much for Simon. He said he hasn't had any friends who are girls so he needs to start at the beginning and ease his way in. A dating site isn't the place to make genuine friends or find someone to have sex with when you don't have experience of that kind of thing.
My advice is to not look for a girlfriend. Always look at female friends as having the potential to become a grilfriend. If you are desperately or actively looking, chances are you won't find what you're looking for.
Relax and enjoy making new friends, there isn't any rush smile
Just my humble opinion anyway!
Good luck Simon.

How'd it go you say? Not too great. Didn't get a chance to talk to any girls, I'm sat on a desk full of guys, which always seems to happen. The one girl I really like is well quiet, which makes this stupid thing even more difficult.
And onlyme1981...NO RUSH?!?!?! How can there be no rush!?!?! I'm dyin' here!
Cheers.

Be confident :bounce: be polite :jagsatwork: be honest biggrin be brave :boxing: be vulnerable  and above all be yourself :P
If there are specific questions you have Simon, you'll find people here pretty non-judgemental and they will have either heard it or done it all before, so feel free to fire away wink
Welcome to the site by the way wave

From the perspective of finding a steady girlfriend....damn good advice......

be vulnerable

Be vulnerable? How do I go about doing that? I thought that was bad? Whats the difference between vulnerability and desperation?
Hamkins...............what kind of Art are you into?
Drawing cartoons mostly - which my art teachers all hate

Look it up in the dictionary...but what that will not tell you is....more about being yourself and to be honest about you're vulnerabilities..... I assume you have some...just like us all..!!
It might be taken as a weakness...but it depends how you use them..... wink
Only time will tell my friend......

One-off cartoons, or more the story-board kind of thing?

Good question...... rolleyes
Because even in a fairly liberal place like an art college, cartooning is still frowned upon and not really seen as a valid form of art, mostly because even fantastic artists (i.e. all the teachers) can be and are totally rubbish at cartooning. It's because so few people can do it (or think they are good enough to do it, when really everyone should do it) which is why it's hated so much.
