Like many others on this site I am going through a metamorphosis - I will arise a butterfly from my current coccoon - and am trying to lose weight. I lost nearly a stone and a half already (through weightwatchers) but I need help keeping on track. Does anyone have any tips, hints or otherwise.

Loads of stress, fail miserably and take up smoking again after two years of being smoke free, oh, and get really ill!
I lost three stone between Dec and May! lol
Sorry, not the best advice! Apart from the usual (healthy nibbles, plenty of water etc) I found that not thinking about a diet was a huge help, worrying about food just made me hungry, so keep busy.

buy a nice dress or pair of jeans in a smaller size ( just one size smaller )
and choose a favourite music or film star..cut a pic out and stick it on your fridge..cupboard and by your bed...
think..i want to look like that..i want to look like that. biggrin and smile.
and dont buy a packet of biscuits and say you will just have one..it never works like that..
AND THE BEST TIP....if you have a sweet tooth...then buy sugerfree icepops.. you can eat as many as you want..and sugarfree jelly. if you dont have a sweettooth.. then ignore this bit.......

I'm not in the position to give you any advice hun.... but i'm sure my better half will give you some words of encouragement as she's a fitness/aerobics instructor.
All i can say is great work getting off the weight you have..... and the most enjoyable exercise is obviously as much sex as you can get!!!!

Hiya Mrs RSAB2,
Well i myself have lost 6 stone since Sept 29th last yr (that was 8 wks ago i get weighed again in a week or so)
Basically i went to the doctors and asked for help because i was rediculously overweight.
He gave my a healthy eating sheet which basically has a list of foods you can have as much as you want of,a list of things to have occasionally and a list of what to avoid,i go back to the doctors every 8 weeks to get weighed and its worked a treat for me,so its worth a trip to the doc's just to get the sheet!
I also gave up chocolate which was my big downfall.
Ive now started on the excersizing to tone it all up.
I think the best advice i can give you is that fitting into the next size down,or your desired size has got to be a better feeling than a bit of chocolate!!!!!!

Mrs Fac has recently lost 3 stone and hasn't gone hungry once.
She tried the sort of (squeezes bum tightly and waits for the flack) Atkins Diet. I say the sort of, because she didn't follow it rigidly by eating all of the fat, but concentrated on cutting out all of the crap food that we ate.
So we don't now eat things such as pasta, potatoes, bicuits, and puddings.(Well we do have the puds occasionally)
She hasn't gone hungry once because she eats a proper breakfast and this lasts for most of the day.
Atkins works by using foods that take a long time to break down in the stomach. The energy is then released slowly throughout that period, and the brain does not register hunger because there is a steady supply of sugar to the blood which is used as it is produced.
Carbohydrates on the other hand, especially sugars, are broken down quickly and there is a huge rush of energy into the blood which the body can't deal with. Insulin is then released to mop this up and store as fat.
The idea is to keep the blood sugar level constant instead of having peaks and troughs making the brain register hunger. For snacks we have things such as chicken legs, or small salads, and after a while the craving for sweet things has disappeared.
We both feel much healthier, have lower cholesterol levels, and no stomach problems such as heartburn.
Only downside is the food bill has gone through the roof.

Don't suppose you could send me a copy could you Clare? Although WW's is working fine at the moment I don't think is does you any harm to add variety sometimes.

I've got another dietting fad suggestion for you - this one is healthy, honest!
It was in the news sometime in the 1980s, and me and my mum both tried it. I was a wee nipper then (well, about 16) and I didn't really need to lose weight, but I went down to 8 stone, which was far too low for my build but that's another story. My mum however did need to lose weight and she went from a size 20 to a 12 in about 8 months or so.... that was about 4 stone I think. She has put some of the weight back on over the years but has recently started a weight loss program again. She has lost over 2 stone and looks 10 years younger than she actually is.
It's a diet called Fit for Life - there's books on it, but you don't need to read them, the principles are simple. Basically, you just eat shoit loads of fruit and veg whenever you want, but the tricky point is you are not supposed to mix high protein food with high carbs - so pizza is out, so is steak and chips, so are cheese sandwiches! I think the diet actually works cos you eat less cos you're being so damn picky with your food! You need to still eat the protein and the carbs but you eat them with fruit or veg, not with each other - so you can have steak and veg, cheese and fruit etc etc. You're also not allowed to eat processed food or salt or caffeine
The books were just a gimmick and the science they were based on was flawed, I think. But if you want an easy way to lose weight fast that isn't too unhealthy, try it.
Oh yeah, and you're only allowed to eat fruit before midday - nothing else. And nothing after 8pm - so TV snacks are out!

That's the diet Geri lost her weight on. I'll look it up - Thanks Blue.
How I know this is beyond me - perhaps I am just that sad!

Sounds like sound advice Blue - and wouldn't cost any extra too. Most diets cost a bloody fortune!

Wrong again! It was the diet Vanessa lost all her weight on 4 stone in12 weeks!!!!
Have started this week to try and loose some weight.... Cutting back on junk & snack food, easing up on the beer (not an easy one that) and walking home a couple of miles from the station. At 14st I don't want to loose my 'rooster' status and end up being called 'pot bellied pig' !!!!

Walking is a fab exercise - although power walking in a thunder storm (as I was yesterday) is not much fun.
Keep up the good work!
