For the first time in living memory, we're about to do up a room in our house all in one go. I'm supposed to be going to order the furniture tomorrow, as I can get 20% off. However, the stuff we were buying is too flucking big for where we need it to go banghead. So im all confuddled now!
We both really fell for this bed:

But as I said the rest of the stuff is just too chunky to fit. They do some very similar, slightly smaller stuff, so I thought we could get that bed & the rest from the other range. Maybe.
Annnnnnyway, the help I need is thus. I need to do up the bedroom & turn it into a little passion palace. However, the two things I have to consider are- with dark furniture I don't want it to end up looking like a mausoleum. And Mr W, being as he is, a bloke- it can't be too girlie. I need suggestions on wall colours, bedding etc etc.
So I need some advice, from guys and girls- think Boudoir, think Burlesque, think Bonking.
What are the essential ingredients for a bedroom made for chilling out & making lurrrve? (NO RUBBER SHEETS PLEASE!)
How about mainly neutral cream colours, but with feature wall done in something a little more dramatic. Either a deep red or purple type shade? If you can then find a light coloured bedding with a small pattern in it that pics out the feature wall colour it will all co-ordinate. I have some funky cream bedding that has a deep red embroidered pattern on it. Don't forget lighting though... can make all the difference to the look of a room. I personally like the idea of some fairly lights twisted through that headboard but then I might just be a bit wierd lol
We're in the process of totally revamping our bedroom too and have just ordered all our new bedroom furniture. The tart has the job of ripping out my nasty horrible fitted wardrobes and organising forthe carpet fitter to come the week after next

yes while someone goes away for the week and plays with thier new nephew......
i prefer the natural floor boards myself i've got dark furnture and bed with dark rosewood floor...then white bedding with a dark terracota thow....light magnolia walls (textured) and light curtains with black out lining...........the light walls ensure the room looks bigger than it is.......
but for me lighting is the essential think i use lamps to read by............yep my sex life is that poor...but for other soft lamps to make lurrrveee by is the best so im told

How about a moroccan theme, can be very sexy using textures and bold colours?

I like what Celery said about neutral colours and a strong accent colour (get me here! I've watched the room makeover programmes before :smugsmile but I also prefer a wooden floor, got one in my bedroom (oops, I mean ours!) and would never go back to carpet.
I want a four poster bed :inlove:
Just remember that dark furniture needs dusting more often confused although it does look very nice wink

Can you not do the same thing to the bed? confused

Your both sooooooo nawty...
But I do like you!
Oooh and I just thought... sari silk... if you have a sari shop near you have a look in there... beautiful fabrics relatively cheaply and make great throws and cushion covers. And cushion covers are dead easy to make... straight lines on the sewing machine, nothing is simpler
And remember the texture thing, chenille, velvet, suede all things that are yummy to touch and feel wink
Oooh, Celery, I love the fairylights-round-headboard thing as well, although Chris is rather anti the whole idea at the moment! I bought some lovely lights in Thailand and am keeping them hidden till he gets used to the idea :giggle:
We're making plans at the moment to redecorate the house, and we're starting with the bedroom, of course..... I'm going to keep an interested eye on the suggestions in this thread! (WW, we may end up with identical bedrooms biggrin)

Ffs Winchy!! I've heard some excuses to get folks in ya bedroom, but this takes the biscuit rolleyes come and help me with my decor indeed wink
I've always thought that setting a room around a certain scent is a good idea, for instance if the room had a lavender scent the room would be designed with that in mind, everything would be related to lavender. Bedrooms need to be cosy so i think the perfect scent for the room to have would be something warming, the first one that comes to mind is mulled wine, so naturally the room would be designed so taht it matched its scent with warming colours such as reds, browns and oranges. With alot of thought i personally think that a home or a room designed using smell as a template would be a comfortable one.
I doubt that helps you though x
Hate to bring the conversation back to the furniture itself but, being a tall-ish bloke, I must simply say
DON'T GET A BED WITH A FOOTBOARD FOR PITY'S SAKE.
There, that's made me feel much better, although it is a serious piece of advice. nothing worse than having that trapped feeling when one is not actually strapped down to the bed... redface
I have the fairy lights thing going on in my bedroom... on the wall above my headboard. Lighting is good for creating an atmosphere! I like lots of different textures, my room is creams and chocolate browns but I like cosy. The rich reds sound lovely and again with different textures. Like Celery said, buying some material is cheaper and straight lines on a sewing machine are easy... i made my curtains, cushions and throws, and if I can you can! wink Mirrors are good for creating light and space (but not on the ceiling - unless... erm... you like that view!) lol
Take a pic when you're done and let us see? The bed looks lush and dark wood does need a dust more often but worth it for the effect.

Horah!
Another person who doesnt want to feel forced to adopt the phetal position in bed trapped between the headboard and foot board.
Rich reds get myvote, a kind o mulled wine red is very cosy kiss
Now you're in MY territory wink I just luuuuurve interior design!
For a bedroom I'd suggest neutral, calming colours on the walls ( greens, blues, creams etc ) and use the bedding and soft furnishing to inject some colour, texture and warmth into the room. Go for low wattage bulbs and table lamps, with candles on hand for 'those' nights :rascal: Either fitted carpet or very large rugs on the floor. You don't want to be stepping out of bed onto a cold floor
Alternatively, go for warm reds and gold on the walls with lots of drapes and throws everywhere.....very boudoir
Keep tv's and dvd players OUT of the bedroom and only have a radio if you use a clock/radio for an alarm.
I'm redoing my bedroom again ( as the Pussy Posse will confirm rolleyes ) as I'm fed up with the dark purple walls ( I kid you not  ) I've chosen duck egg blue for the walls, white bedding and sensual dark purple throws and cushions for the bed.

 I came on here this morning, having "made" a decision last night about the furniture, thinking I'd just have a mosey & see what ideas the lovely miscreants at SH have had about the wall colours. Then I find this! I hadn't even thought of that FFS
Although Mr W is not at 5'9- he likes to dangle his toes off the end of the bed
Hi Winchwench
Ok here's my design ideas top create a sensual boudoir:
Floorboards definitely (wood is NOT cold to step onto)
Absolutely no TV/DVD anywhere (should be banned in bedrooms)
No children's pictures
Sensual generally means warm colours and a moroccan idea would be a good starting point so perhaps try warm reads, aubergines, browns with maybe an accent colour (duck egg lovely for this and restful to as Sassy has done/doing)
As well as colours, textures are very important in a bedroom, silky cushions, chunky throws, faux fur, mngolian cushions (thicker for winter, thinner for summer)
Personally I would only choose pure white good quality cotton bedding and dress with cushions and throws which you can interhange from season to season.
Lighting is really important, side lamps, wall lights, candles etc. Low wattage bulbs.
The walls - should be the last decision really, choose the expensive things you love, the bed, furniture, curtains (fabric is expensive) then put them all together in a mood board and see what colour would compliment them all. Often it is a colour you wouldn't think of. As someone else suggested a feature wall is a good plan to get a strong colour without dominating the room.
Happy designing.

A girl after my own heart! I have a ritual-when I buy something new, the instruction book gets thrown over my shoulder & I go & play with the buttons :bounce:
I have a sewing machine which works intermittently- I made the curtains for my eldests bedroom. They are very almost straight :smug:
Loving the ideas guys, keep em coming wink
I agree that the boudoir is not the place for tellys & videos- but we quite often get consigned to the bedroom if theres something on the kids want the main TV for. Also, Im a night owl, Mr W isnt- going to bed & cuddling up means he curls up & goes to sleep whilst im left, wide awake. Reading the teletext keeps me sane!
I've recently bought a 15" lcd though, with a built in DVD player so it can be wall mounted & hopefully more discrete
I like fairy lights too :giggle: I was thinking of putting something dramatic on the wall behind the bed, and as it's a dark bedframe too putting lights around it to reflect on the wall.

Bloody hell Drew, that was a very sensible post!
Like that idea, actually - the scent template.
i love reds
when my ex moved out i changed the pale lemon and blue bedroom into a red and black wrought iron bedroom, complete with fabrics silks, satins, velvets, filled the room with candles and other bits n pieces that are very me (ie dragons for starters), even the ceiling is red.
the room is a very warm, sensual sexy place to be whilst still having the practical side of a bedroom
sorry minataur mine has a footboard, but it is wrought iron so you can stick your feet through  lol
Drew, love the idea of creating rooms round scents, a lot of the candles in my bedroom are warm scents like cinnamon and spices.
Earthy xx
Lovely bed Winchwench!... I would suggest neutral coloured walls, with some bedding of raspberry colour and maybe curtains the same... then add some black or chocolate accessories in with it and baboom! lol

Can I hire you for my living room pink?? wink
Well my advice is to get a bed with a footboard and order a longer one if you wish to cater for the taller gentlemen, since it is nice to having something to push against when you either want to move up the bed or stop slipping down. Further more you actually get more effective length with a headboard since with a divan the bedding tends to press down on your feet more.
Having said that, bed sizes are rather lacking behind the changes in the heights of the adult population.
Also did you know the latest thing is a "water feature" in the bedroom, its the in thing in London now, they have special lights and fragrences to add to the trickling water to suit the mood.
Aparently the urge to spend a penny from the sound of the cascading water soon diminishes.
