If I didn't say it before... Welcome MrFC! 
It took great courage to admit to that - nice one!
To put you a little further at your ease... a LOT of coppers - serving and retired - are active swingers. It's an open secret that one of the biggest Swingers clubs in Croydon is owned and run by two ex-Vice squad officers and they employ an off-duty robbery squad decective to man the door. :wink:
The sort we don't like are the ones that nick first and ask questions later...

Ok......it's gonna have to be something to do with nocturnal wildlife (of the non human variety). I can just picture you running round the car park now with:
1. Night vision glasses
2. A butterfly net
3. An empty matchbox
4. An empty jam jar (with pierced lid)
5. An entymologists dictionary
6. A box of condoms (to keep specimens in)
7. Something to lure fruitbats
All whilst wearing combat fatigues and a baseball cap. :shock:
How close is that for a first (all be it surreal) guess?

EEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK I could never use that as a cover story, just watching "they nest" gave me nightmares about crunchy creepy crawly things for weeks :shock: :shock: :shock: :shock: :shock: I still suffer from watching the doctor who episode with the big feck off maggot things (and that was at least 28 years ago now, yet I still remember them if not the story line)
Then again, I also suffer from virtigo (well more specifically fear of hights) yet seem to spend an inordinate amount of time in places that scare the be-jeasus out of me just to get that one shot

Thats the problem with scientific papers Dawn, they induce the rapid onset of sleep through a sudden attack of boredom. I have known some of my papers take a week to read, people keep nodding off with great frequency whilst reading them.
