If you have been to a decent veggie cafe you may well have experienced some nice tasty food. I do occasionally and I enjoy it as much as meat foods. However, it will take you many years to acheive this level of expertise, in food making; unlike meat based dishes.
Veggie lifestyles are fine if it suits you and your constitution. If it doesn't you may find yourself undernourished and likely to suffer from a variety of deficiencies.
So be prepared to accept defeat if at the time it doesn't suit you.

I was musing about whether to give up the ways of the carnivore. The problem I have is that most of the vegetarians I know are bloody whinging gits moaning about this and that. Do you think it is a requisite to be so ?

The answer is simple. If you don't want to eat meat, don't eat it, but don't tell everyone else that's what you are doing.
When you are alone you can eat what and where you like. When you are with others in a pub or a restaurant and have the opportunity to choose, choose whatever you like best without making a song and dance about it. And when you are a guest in someone else's house, eat whatever they give you and appreciate it, and never force your preferences on them or on their cooking!
... and that way you will avoid becoming a bloody whinging git! smile

Most veggies diets are far healthier than meat eaters diets; Quorn the most common meat substitute is very good for you. If you didn't have a balanced diet you may feel under nourished but the same could be said if you ate meat and didn't have a balanced diet.

I agree. But it takes a lot of skill, time and cost to maintain a veggie diet properly. A raw vegetable diet is very effective, and likely to become a new trend soon.

I`m sorry ??? I`d really take exception to that statement !! Skill time and cost ?????? Why on earth would it ... if you really can`t give yourself a balanced diet without eating meat you can simply buy supplements from chemists or health food shops !! it`s not exactly rocket science !!
Well there you go, you're already into buying expensive supplements.

How is a vegetarian diet more expensive? Fruit and vegetables are a lot cheaper then meat and vegetarians don’t supplement their diet with pills nor do they need to eat food that is made to look and taste like meat. This is all a meat eaters’ myth

Its the total costs and time you need to consider. I have an allotment, I grow a lot of my own fruit and veg. I feel good about it and its tasty. I can do veggie several days in a row, but I like good quality meat as well, and fish. I know what a decent veg is, cos I grow my own. When at its best you can still smell it.
But it takes time to produce and it costs to keep the allotment and buy seeds etc.
Whe you are buying food, you don't always get the right stuff in one shop, so you have to shop about.
You may need to keep several things like bean sprouts growing, sourdough yeast fermenting, youghurts brewing etc.
The food needs to be cooked properly or you will loose food value.
Finally, meat is the product of a vegetarin diet. So I have no qualms about eating it.

I am sure I read somewhere in the last couple of months that some company that produces animal feed wants to start feeding anamals other animal remains like they did before BSE. Then think that they have found away so nothing like BSE would happen again. :fuckinghell: :eeek:
Makes me feel very very uneasy.

As an organic beef and dairy farmer i'd like to know how "they" are feeding animals to animals? meat and bone meal has been banned as an animal feed in this country for years but not in other countries around the world. People that give up red meat in order to live a heathier foodstyle by eating chicken and pork need to look very carefully as to how that meat is produced because chicken and pig production can be the most intensive ways to produce meat.
I don't mind people who are vegetarian, but a lot of these sites tell half truths. As an organic farmer i dip the coes teats in chemiclas after milking them evil shock horror!!!!!! but its only iodine a natural element to prevent bugs getting in. washed off before the next milking, so as Frank Carson sort of said " its the way you tell 'em" biggrin

Lost, you gave no reasons why you would like to become a vegetarian.. confused
You can only become a vegetarian if it is YOUR belief to do so. If you strongly believe in the ethics around slaughtering animals etc., then yes become a vegetarian but most definately not because people you know are or because you just think you should.
It's a strong belief not a fashion statement! wink

I have never been into fashion, or camps.
Mar you are right, moral or health, both are good reasons for doing anything. Following the latest fad normally ends in following the next.
I'll stop now before I start going round in circles.
