The new iPhone was released tonight at , cor it does look v. v. sexy!!! :smitten:
Anyone got it or planning to? I wish I was, I got an N95 5 months ago and had nowt but trouble with it since - it went in today for it's second repair, will be at least a week and all they offer is a shite basic phone to keep you going. Just glad I kept my old phone - it's better than a basic model but still doesn't have the SatNav I've got very used to lol. Hmmm, it made me want to pop into London and get my hands on the iPhone...

you do know the phone costs 270 quid don't you.... and you have to sign up to an 18 month contract on O2's specific tariff for iPhones (minimum 35 pounds a month - only get 200 minutes and 200 texts)
that is a minimum of £900 you are commiting before you make a single phone call........ smile :)
any before anyone thinks about unlocking the bugger... people did that in the states.... and when apple do there updates it renders the phones unless
saying that my mates are mad enough to want one....
Errrr, it's a phone, for making phone calls, and how will you feel when you drop it on the floor and scratch it :undecided:
Think i'll stick with my £30 cheapy special wink
Sticking to my cheap ones as well!
At least I know how they work.......
lol

Same here.
wait until the i-phone is released in france.
Under french law you cannot be tied into a contract so all the phones will be unlocked and cheaper.
Buy one online and then just put your sim in it when it arrives.
Just wait a little.
I`ll be sticking to my clam phone, the screen doesnt get scratched and the buttons dont get pressed when it`s in my bag. smile
I'd heard that you could buy this phone cheaper abroad, personally I think it's an absolute shocking amount of money to pay for a phone and wouldn't be even tempted.
I have a Sony Eric and yes it has MP3 player on and I often listen to my music on it, but other than that I'm a textaholic so it suits my needs, that and phone calls.
Couldn't be hassled with all the iPhone can do

Well.... can you read French ?
Just wondered....because one site says that the iphone will not have a language choice.
And another:
In the collision between French telecom law and Apple's carrier exclusivity for the iPhone, guess who blinked. Engadget and the International Herald-Tribune among other sources are reporting that the French iPhone will be sold in two versions, an Orange-locked handset for 399 euros, and an unlocked party animal for some as-yet-unannounced higher price. This is a consequence of France's statute, on the books since 1998, forbidding carrier locks beyond a six-month introductory window.
Given the option of a third-party unlock (either free or paid-for) versus shelling out extra for a legit, unlocked, vive le France iPhone... well, I expect there'll be a bit of shuttle diplomacy going on as would-be iPhone buyers decide to visit Paris for the holidays.
It's a shame it's cos although it isn't the most expensive phone, the technology is years ahead of anything out there.
I've played with the iPod Touch, which is similar but without the phone, and it is stunning. Works beautiful and really an object of desire.
The iPhone will be hampered by the fact that it's tied into specific operators. If you could just buy the iPhone and stick your existing SIM card into it, then it would really fly of the shelves. As it is I think I'll stick with my low tech 'phone'.
biggrin
why oh why pay that much for a fone get a good contract one free when u take contract out
or buy a pay as you go that suits your needs and your pocket
most expensive phone i got was the samsung d500 at £150 but it was a xmas pressie and is nearly 3 years old and about had it never again will i get an expensive phone as long as i can text and ring and have a decentish ringtone then wat does it matter
For the same reason many buy smartfones or similar. It isn't the phone, it's the total machine. I can use mine to check email...send email...take good quality pics...upload same when taken and use it as a modem for my pocket pc...not to mention the other applications that it has in it....
Oh, and it makes and receives phone calls....
And another thing I noticed about it....if someone witholds their number and you let the phone time-out without answering....when you go to "missed calls"....the witheld number is shown !!!
Had an N80... Crap, thought about the N95.. and the moment of madness passed quickly, once bitten twice shy.
Now a samsung U600.. 12mm of pure heaven.. Had 8 months now and looks like new works like new and charge lasts even longer than when new. Everything works as it should..
The Nokia.. was a nightmare.. heavy sluggish, no battery life.. half the apps didn't work dropped calls no e-email ever worked.. Made calls on its own.. logged into the net even when switched off (so Nokia told us) so logged up data charges.. (never paid mind)
Sticking with simple now..

pay all that fucking money and it will be obsolete in 6 months...and the same mugs will go and buy the next version.

I can just about work my 'phone when I'm sober. I can't work a SatNav when I'm sober. No chance working either when I'm pissed.
Do you get pissed then?? lol

Very rarely

Not the iPhone, but my iPod Touch is sooooooo sexy! :inlove:
I did consider waiting for the iPhone but after seeing how much time the Touch spends on charge I'm glad I didn't now ;-)
All I have to add that it seems a shocking waste to me to spend many family's weekly (or in some cases monthly) food budget on a gadget that will be useless in a year.

But the thing that really makes me laugh is the calling a bit of plastic with some technology in it, sexy !!! What`s that all about ?

dunno unless one of the functions is a vibrator biggrin

It does seem odd that people can squander this kind of money on a gadget.

"Sexy" in this context usually means tht it is perceived as something exciting and which is fashionable.
In reality it is bullshit put in place by marketing people to persuade people that the gadget is something which will improve their lifestyle.
Now the technology in the iTouch and iPhone is very interesting, but I doubt that it would give me an erection.

I can see your point biggrin having said that, I certainly can't see it being useless is a year? whatever gives you that idea? I personaly think they'll be better in a year and a lot less costly.
As long as theres a mobile phone network, music and the internet then theres no way these will become useless, especialy more so in a year, and i can't see all that disapearing soon, unless of course you mean out of fashion, which is a different thing altogether, after all theres probably plenty people on here with old phones that haven't become useless after a year :D
Having said that anyone who pays nearly £300 for one with a contract on top needs there heads looked at, especialy when you can get one from the states for £200 without any contract.

Absolutely correct interpretation.
I have an "old" phone which, as you correctly suggest, still makes calls and sends txts.

The OP asked for opinions.... that was mine. I appreciate it's design and form, it's sleek curves and smooth surface. If you don't like my terminology you can always click here. ;-)

Not quite true either.....Yes it is $400 dollars (£200 pounds) for the 8gb version...However the US phones are all locked to AT&T, hence the same problems that they found in the UK
maybe the real question should be why are Apple in the UK charging £100 pounds more for the same phone in the US???

Bloody hell... I might go up the corner and send them a text from our new phone box lol...
Ahhhh to pose is great eh.. Bless em..

Now if someone released an internal vibrator which you could contol by Bluetooth and sold this as a package with a new phone ......
