Earlier this evening, somebody posted a couple of jokes and the thread was immediately locked with the comment "Jokes get locked".
I was puzzled by this as it is not immediately apparent why jokes should be banned - so I thought I would check the rules for the reason. I may have missed something, but I have read through the Posting Guidelines and the Acceptable Use Policy and can't find anywhere where it says that jokes are unacceptable, apart from this:
"The posting of pictures on any part of the Swinging Heaven site that you do not have copyright, or posting pictures that are fake, a joke or don't actually contain any part of you in them, or worse, that include a third party." ....... but joke pictures are always being posted in the forums!
So it seems that joke pictures (that are specifically prohibited by the AUP) are not banned but written jokes (which are not prohibited by the AUP) are banned.
Maybe I've misunderstood, or perhaps the AUP should be amended to make things clearer.
Hold on let me test this, I'll just go and find my humourous reply to a differnt thread I constructed earlier. smile
hiya nlondonjohn im sure someone will be along soon with abetter answer but as far as i see it there isnt any way to answer a joke in a forum apart from saying very good or that was c**p so it dosnt give anyone anything to add to!
& the forum would be pretty boring if full of joke threads confused
just my take on it biggrin :D
I locked it John for the very simple reason that I can't see anyway that a told joke can develop into a thread, all said and done what can be said. It would have been easier to let it drop away without a lock on it, the problem with that based on what I have seen before ,is that folk then go posting their own jokes and before you know it we have jokes all over the place that really dont warrent further comment, basically threads that have no chance of being a thread.

Thanks for explaining your logic. Personally, I rather enjoyed the joke about the hot water bottle ………………. I'd hate to think that contributions like that are being cut out to free up space for interminable posts about sheds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.....or tedious threads that just name song titles.

I'm just waiting for someone to post a joke in that thread and give me an excuse to lock it
Good point Davej, A joke is told, laugh, end of story. .Not much point discussing a joke, as it becomes unfunny when taken apart. .
As the poster of the jokes, I did wonder what the sub-rules are. Now I know!
Right, back to the song tiitles thread....
We used to allow joke threads, but the forum became full of them, all copied and pasted from other sites. It was no laughing matter I can tell you!!!! confused :? :? :? lol   wink
Two polar bears.
One on the North Pole,
the other on the South Pole.
As the world rotates and they pass each other;
