Just how 'safe' do people tend to play?

Another newbie question, and another subject that has been covered before, but seemingly not from this particular angle (well I didn't find anything on a search.)
I hear a lot of talk about 'safe sex' and wonder exactly what it refers to. Obviously it means using condoms for penetration, but what's the position on oral sex?
While we don't particularly want to catch anything, HIV is our obvious concern. With statistics showing that 85,000 out of 60,000,000 UK citizens are infected with the disease, that's over a 1 in 1,000 chance that the random person you're exchanging bodily fluids with is a carrier. While you wouldn't back a horse with odds like that, they're hardly lottery jackpot odds either.
Reading up on the subject, oral sex with an HIV infected person is low, but not zero risk. On the other hand, while I have no problem with using condoms for penetration, the idea of mucking around with cling film to give oral or wearing a condom to receive it really does sound like it'll take away a great deal of the pleasure.
Ultimately, I know it's our decision, but I'm just wondering what the general trend is. Is oral without a barrier accepted within the bounds of 'safe sex' in the swinging community, or do those who practise safe sex use a condom or dental dam at all times? I'm not specifically asking people to reveal what they themselves do (though feel free to if you wish) but observations and experiences would certainly be welcome.
we have never come across (please excuse the pun) anyone who uses condoms (or cling film lol) for oral sex.

Not much evidence of condoms or other barriers in the oral sex we have been involve din or witnessed swinging.
Some let it fly some spit some swallow some gargle or dribble.
Its a small risk that a lot of folk are prepared to take. Regular GUM checks will reassure you that you haven't picked up anything nasty. They can also advise on managing risk.
I only use cling film when giving oral to hairy women for obvious reasons.
i play very safe, tie my feet to bed post, saves me falling in..
ps this is mr lol
Ben W said, "Some let it fly some spit some swallow some gargle or dribble".
I'm into the dribbling nowadays.
Plim lol
They say that banana flavoured condoms are OK

Thanks folks, you've confirmed what I pretty much thought was the state of play anyway. I suppose the trick is to minimise the risk without spoiling the fun.
Weve never come across condoms/barriers being insisted upon for oral sex.
What we have seen in a group sex scenario was a guy having penetrative sex with a partner whilst wearing a condom. He then moved on to another partner and had penetrative sex with her... wearing the same condom.
Both women were potentially at risk from this but didnt seem to bat an eyelid.
Lost in the heat of the moment? overcome buy the huge waves of pleasure? or lulled into a false sense of security because they knew a condom was being used???? dunno

Yes this subject has been done before but always worth another thread from time to time, as I believe you have raised valid points.
I always used to wonder about the risks of oral sex, as some films show the guy wearing a condom for penetrative sex, then all of a sudden with the " pop shot " there is no condom and then she proceeds to swallow....go figure.
Yes of course the risks are lower with oral sex, but as you have mentioned....the risks are still there.
Lets be honest here. Would you knowingly give a male or female, especially a guy IF you knew he was HIV positive? Somehow I think not, but would you actually know unless he told you? There are risks no matter how small but people harp on about the safe sex thing, but if you wanted to be completely safe, then you would use a condom or whatever when doing oral sex.....but we don't, or maybe a very small percentage do?
I have never come across that even at a club.
If we studied ALL the risks involved, then I suppose nobody would want to swing at all.
We knew a couple whereby she was paranoid about catching something and of course rightly so, but then would take part in a gang bang from time to time, where she would give complete strangers oral sex, and lets be fair guys do leak a bit, and some a lot more than others. She obviously just had not even considered any risks with oral sex, but there are some indeed.
All people can do is to try and judge what is best for them, but like most things in life there is a risk involved, and this is certainly no different.

Ooops redface thats what i meant to say :-|
i think it comes down to either of two conditions to be in.
if you have enough lust and libido, you are likely to get out there and take some sort of risk at some point.
if you don't, you'll be safely at home taking no risks.
Stick to ironing, then you've no worries :giggle:
Why isn't there an ironing emoticon?!

i had a new experience this weekend, the couple i was playing with used condoms on the toys,in terms of hygine/cleanliness this struck me as a reasonable idea.i was just wondering what others thought?

it makes good sense really
i also knew a couple a while back that would wear gloves too when playing with pussy i did think it a bit excessive but at least they were safe maybe i'm the loon for not taking such precautions
i always insist on condoms for penetration but not oral i have thought i am a little daft not to but yet the thought of sucking cock with one on just seems too odd yet i freely admit i would be mortified if i caught something orally
go figure blink
How spooky that I should find this thread ...I was thinking of starting something similar myself.
Recently browsing profiles, I've noticed a lot of 'penetration' shots in the pics gallery - which I think are great, don't get me wrong, some of these people I know, some I don't, however I've yet to spot one with a condom on.
It does concern me, because neither Mr Tin or myself would ever contemplate having full sex with someone without using condoms, yet there appears to be an ever growing number of people quite willing to put not only their own health, but the health of others, at risk.
I'm also conscious that the the guys/gals in the pics may be with their own partner, and therefore may not need or want to use condoms, but the 'most definately singles' ... why??
I can't figure it out, can someone else enlighten me?
Mrs Tin
