Welcome to a piece of my life.
For the last few days I have been decorating my bedroom hence not being online much. rolleyes (Feel free to fill me in on anything I missed that is worth knowing about! )
Anyway...... The room from decorating hell.
In my infinate teenage wisdom I thought I would buck the trend and paint my bedroom a lovely shade of post box red. It was lovely, passionate, rich warm and very womb-like. It also required four layers of "once" paint to cover. mad "Once" <pah!> Four fecking coats of white paint later and I can't see the red anymore
It has taken me three days to paint a room aprrox 4metres square evil
The walls are not smooth, there is a hidden dust factory, a spider farm, 23 years of hoarded stuff that needs to given to the bin nevermind the charity shop!
It would have been a toss up as to which make over programme I should have contacted and got in to do it for me; 60 minute makeover or how clean is your house? dunno r.
I spent far too much time (and money) in IKEA and I haven't even got the space toassemble and put the furniture in the room cos I am such a terrible hoarder. redface
And I got trapped underneath my 7ft Compact Disc tower shelvey unit thingy as it toppled over and pinned me to the floor, covered in records, cd's, dvd's and vinal. surprisedops: Struggling like a beached whale I managed to free myself and tidy the mess I had made. Brushed the bits of broken cd case to one side and got on with clearing the metre high pile of stuff off my bed.
Anyone else care to share their decorating stories? ... maybe you got a decorator in and got a nice little bonus etc etc..... ;) :dunno: Who knows? I certainly don't think I would have looked too apealing in an grotty dust stained top, paint stripe in my hair and a pair of knicks that kept riding up ending up up wedged uncomfortabley...... mmmm. Sexy beast me! lol

Having painted my living room more than tango(african adventure 3 from them bastards at dulux!) and after rea, lising that the only good thing about it is is disguises your fake tan gone wrong ( for those of you at the scottish mucnch, yes i did try and get a bit of a tan out of a bottle which went patchy!) because it's so bright!
Excuse the grammar and all that bollocks but am rather pissed and talking bollokcs but anyhoo dont try the abobe mentioned paint!!!
well gem i tried to do,my bedroom in a nice violet rag roll kind of thingy when it was the thing to do years ago redface but i decided to get my living room done nice andproper a couple of months back...........................so i got someone in to do it and to tell you the truth i wish i had not bothred cool as it now looks worse than ever rolleyes
Why are Chinese good at decoratin then ?
oh! right! thanks for that gem! mad here i am looking at a kitchen, landing, staircase, and 2 bloody bedrooms, and you're pissing and moaning about a bit of excess emulsion coverage and brilliant white thighs? rolleyes

gem count urself lucky ive got 65 fence panels and of couse they will need 4 coats all beacuse some idiot wanted them brown last time and now wants green 65x4 coats =265 panels thank fook for paint sprayers , then ive go to start on the house  sad :( :( so ill do ur room next time if u wanna swap lol
My two attempts at decorating were disastrous and I really need to promise myself never to do it again rolleyes First time I wallpapered, it all peeled back off in weeks and needed completely replacing
Then I decided to paint the living room. Nice colours, it just looks like I applied fake tan and started sweating
im a painter / decorator / tiler (dino) biggrin , bedroom specialist wink , its true , its a shitty job if your not gettin paid to do it . i do it for a living but hate having to do my own house.

Let me tell you a little story of patience ....... I'm not known for my patience ... it usually reaches the end of my tongue and then gives up redface
Two years ago this March, we moved into this house, the kitchen was a greasy slimy excuse for somewhere to make dinner. Hubby in his wisdom ripped out the kitchen and piled all the units in a corner of the room  They sat there for about 3 months and then his student loan came so we bought a nice kitchen in the B&Q sale smile The walls which the previous owner had decided to paper, artex and render!!! were almost stripped. The kitchen units got fitted :)
A year later the worktops got fitted rolleyes
Just before Christmas last year, the new oven and hob were fitted, and today I'm finally getting the extractor fan fitted :bounce:
I still have no wallpaper or paint up (despite having bought them almost a year ago) and tiles for a splashback are still a dim and distant thought wink The ceiling needs painting too sad
:sigh: as I say I'm a woman with little patience apparently
We've been here for two years ~ hopefully it'll be done by the time we're celebrating our third year here!
When my kitchen is finished it'll be a paradise in aubergine and maple :)
Sympathy for you lot that have had to wait for decorating and are eating off cartons cos the furniture is packed away. I had to get this finished in a short a time as possible cos I'm a bugger for leaving things half done!

And you haven't done hardly any of that decorating you little fibber! And you won't either! I know who will probably be doing it and it won't be you! lol Yes that is a bet!
And as for brilliant white thighs??? How did you know that I was covered in paint? You been stalking me again? confused evil

Ok so now I'm beginning to wonder if I'm just a little bit strange confused I actually enjoy decorating! I find it really satisfying to see it all completed and know that I've done it all!!
Ok maybe it Is just me then. sad
Cally, listen to Morbius. You can't rush these kind of jobs or it ends up a mess. Trust us.
We did our kitchen in 10 days. Ripped out the;
window and replaced with a bigger one.
the underside of the stairs and found NOTHING was holding it up so had to rebuild that.
the ceiling as it was collapsing.
50% of the walls had to go back to brick and be replastered.
half the floor including the joists had to be repaired due to a slow water leak the previous owner couldn't be arsed to fix.
Then we could replace the kitchen. remember this was done over 10 days.
Had quite a few days that started at 8 with me going to work (only had a week off to do the kitchen) doing my 8 and a half hours, then coming home and getting stuck into whatever needed doing. Wasn't unusual to be going to bed at 2 in the morning.
I have now banned ANYONE from using the kitchen. It is just for looking at now as I never want to do that again.
I'm not even going to start to mention the bedroom. And Countess wants to do the little ones bedroom next.
*hands Countess paste brush and ladders, closes and lock the computer room door and settles down in front of monitor*
mad :x :x Currently we are just starting with our decorating.... Having had new windows, doors and a new kitchen, we now have to decorate the whole house.... We have got as far as one bedroom which we had to put 3 coats of white over teracotta before we could paint it the blue that our son had picked....
I really wish I could pay someone to come and paint it for us as now the motor racing season has started we just wont be here at weekends to do it.... We may be finished by Christmas... I am not saying which Christmas though lol

 Dont talk to me about decorating! mad
Ive come on here with a strop, i always get to do the majority of the sanding and painting etc and as much i enjoy it sometimes, trying to do it with 2 kids and 2 men under yr feet isnt what I call fun. Couldnt find any masking tape so im trying to do some painting with a 'steady' hand.......yeah right.....looks like ive had a night on the piss confused
Whenever ive decorated, ive left things for hubby to finish off.....2 years later im still waiting :x
If i had the money, id definatelty get someone in.

Well Little Gem, I'll bet you are glad Neil shared his thoughts with us. There's nothing like a bit of sympathy to ease one's woes. biggrin wink
Thankfully my place will be OK for a while yet................. although the day will come when I finally have to start slapping stuff on the walls
Best of luck to both of you. confused
I'm no good with wallpaper - don't really like wallpaper to be honest, prefer plain walls.
Repainted the whole of my flat last year, walls, ceilings, doors, skirting boards, radiators and it took bloody ages but turned out pretty good - far better than some 'professional' jobs I've seen.
One near mishap - chose a 'saffron' colour for the bathroom, but it looked pretty dark when it went on the walls - I just thought it'd dry lighter - turned out to be the wrong colour in the tin! Actual colour was something like ''northern lights' ... but it did actually look pretty good in the end :-)
