biggrin Hello all!
As total newcummers to all this, see previous post-, we're finding it difficult to 'get aquainted', pressures of work/ kids/ dog/ diy etc mean we cant spend a lot of time either in chat, or perusing the forums- we'd love to try the notts munch, but understand that we need to serve a 'probation' (as such), it seems really hard (!!??) to make the early 'inroads'. So - I was wondering if any of you regulars would consider 'taking us under your wing' and pming us with any helpful ideas--??? If Im handling this the wrong way, then you can tell us that too!
Hiya Ken
I think really the only way is to get yourself known by posting and joining in on here. I understand what you mean about real life restricting your time. But this can be a great escape from the pressures of day to day life too.
Just join in when you can!
hugs, Alex x x
biggrin Thanks Alex, worry that theres a 'right way' of doing all this, and that we're not-- sad
There is no real right or wrong way - just be yourselves!

I agree !! Once you start to post then your character will show through !! :laughabove:
Have fun
Regards Dan wink
Hey There.....and it's good to have you here..... wink
It's not about serving a probation, it's just that the Munches are a chance for everyone who know each other to go and have a great time together.....now if we don't know you and you don't know us then what have we got in common.....?
There is still plenty of time to get to know us before the Notts Munch, and then if you have spent some time on here then I'm sure Clare and Steve would love to invite you along.
If you don't have much time that's cool.....it just takes a few minutes each day (unless you get addicted...LoL) to come on and reply to a few threads and just generally chat and have a good time.....
So come on, we DO love giving new people a chance but they don't often give US a chance to get to know them before going onto the "Give us a shag" thing...not that I'm suggesting that's what you're doing but I think you get the point.....
Looking forward to reading some of your posts in the future.....

That's where I've been going wrong!
:welcome: Hiya Ken. Good advice so far!
Hi KenluvsLucy,
Don't worry about learning all the fancy bells and whistles here, I don't bother much. Animations and emoticons are fine for some, and sometimes very amusing, but it's also possible to get to know people here through pure unadulterated text!
Mike.
Youll both be fine,as has already been said, you just need to put yourselves about a bit and let peeps get to know you.
Youll have no probs after that,as for the munch,we'll see wink

I can relate to what Ken is saying big time! As total newbies ourselves I know we have to "get stuck in" but it can be a bit daunting when you all know each other so well - it's always at the back of my mind that I'm butting in or I'm going to make some unintentionally crass remark cos I don't know you all.
I know that it's just newbie nerves but :therethere: to KenluvsLucy from us!

I have received a negative pm to a post , since then I have not posted, but you are right we can't please everyone all of the time so I will go back to enjoying the site biggrin
hiya all newbies....i just wanted to say to you, that i was watching and reading posts before dipping my toe in and replying recently....it has been through posting, and by pm-ing people that i felt i would "gel" with, or have something in common with, that i have started to feel quite comfortable and at ease with things.....read the threads first, try to identify people who speak like you do, think like you do, reply like you do...or generally, people who make you smile..... then post to their comments!! welcome aboard..... smile

Like Alex said, we've all been newbies here at one point. I've only been here for a little over a month and already feel like "part of the SH family"...despite one or two rather aggressive, incendiary posts made during my first week. I think you'll find that this is quite the forgiving community, so don't worry about jumping in with both feet (or all, four, being a couple). It's the openness and honesty of the members that make these forums so great, and that would be hard to achieve if we cautiously censored each and every post we made. Just go for it, let it all hang out, and you'll be seasoned SH veterans in no time!

I can only speak for myself - but I found upsetting a large majority of the ppl on here can be an extremely quick way of getting yourself know!!
Obviously there are always pro's & cons - you just have to weigh em up!!! wink
