I know what you mean I’m very shy too 
. I think every one gets a little nervous (apart from the seasoned much veterans possibly) part of the course. All those thoughts running through your head running through your head, will they like me, will I like them, will they talk to me, god I hope I got the right place, does my bum look big in this etc . But it does all go away once you are there. My alcohol is the answer like neilinleeds said :)

It does always puzzle me why overtly shy people want to swing - it just doesn’t seem an advantageous characteristic - but I guess it is just another one of those mysteries of life.

Correct, because everytime they uncover a pile of dead bodies in a garden or cellar somewhere the neighbours always say....

mate, in the same boat here, we almost made the Leicester munch last year and bottled out at the last minute, thats why we have never put our names down since 
dont know about anyone else but it scares the cr** out of us :dunno:
I'm sure you would enjoy it.
A few people have said it already, but at most munches there are volunteers who are allocated by the organiser to meet people at the door, and help them settle in.
If you're really that nervous then it might be worth thinking about attending a smaller social first so you can sit down and have a chat with a few regulars and then when you go to a munch it will be less scary as you'll already know a few people

There really is no need to be scared of munches. Honestly. It's just a bunch of people (half of whom don't know each other either) having a drink, a chat, and a laugh. All nervousness will vanish within five minutes.

(stop laughing at the back)only been to one and it was fine, started off in room 405 which was a good introduction. but generally you wander round staring at peoples chests trying to read their name badges. If you speak to someone and it's not going too smoothly, just say 'good to meet you, im off to continue searching for xxxxx' or something similar. their probably as nervous as you so just go back a little later and see if it's better.
you could try joining the pre munch drinks so you already know some people when you get to the munch.
finally, if you see a blonde woman with a crazy 'im gonna eat you alive' look, it's just Sarah, you should survive meeting her (if you're lucky) :rascal:
If all else fails, find something to stand on and do a striptease while very,very drunk :giggle

basically everyone's in the same boat, bouncing around like a loon trying to meet as many people as possible, so if you do get an attack of nerves and dry up, noone will bat an eyelid if you move swiftly on.
even the old hands find them nerve wracking as they approach at times, but there's really no need, and the nerves soon fly out the window. will be a great night!

Some people find it easier to meet in a smaller group. Some find it a little easier to meet in a larger group; it's easier to hide a little and look around at what's actually going on. Only you know which is the better for you.
As just about everybody has said, the nerves will start to disappear very quickly once your there in the thick of it.
I'm sure you'd probably prefer the company of a gorgeous female, but if you want - find me early on, or let me know and I'll find you for half an hour's "This is Chumpy, be gentle, it's his first time" sort of thing. If you have trouble finding me - just loiter around the bar, I won't be far away
