the sooner you do it the better because there is less to go wrong. if you have broadband download knoppix which I mentioned earlier, you can use this instead of windows in an emergency, and no install is required just boot off the CD and you have net access, office software cd writing, games, the works. then it's a bit less frustrating if things go wrong biggrin

Downloading a copy as well, looks fun smile Thanks for tip ... (TnH spent too long in server room, obviously needs to spend more time browsing web ;) )

Ahh the server room. the best retreat from users! and air conditioning is nice in summer :D from your posts tnh I think you're gonna love knoppix. you might wanna get a usb key too, then you have your whole PC and docs wherever you are! morphix is worth a look too, can't explain how chuffed I was booting off a miniCD into a full os!
Whole PC on a USB, what a damn good idea smile Saw some 1gb keys at the £50 mark... may have to go investigating.

the key is just for the data and settings, you boot off the CD and it finds your home drive on the key. amazing stuff really. there are also some distros trying to boot from USB keys, but you'd need a bios that supports it so it's a bit less useful

Flash Linux boots directly from a USB key and fits on a 256mb key with 50mb free!!!
Great fun to take into work and plug it in to the back of someones PC - watch them panic when they boot up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*Yes, I'm a sad techie*

Me I just like ejecting people's cd drives across the old network, ok I mad, but it sooo easy to do (if you happen to be a domain admin ;) )
