Can we have a candy floss machine in the corner? And a Laser Display unit portraying the most explicitly pornographic, yet highly amusing pictures submitted by members?
And Cheese and biscuits around at half ten each night?
And and can we have a bathtub fully of Jelly for people to dive into and play vaguely erotic splurge wargames?
Like Anusol, on the whole I think it is ok... As others have said, Soapbox and Current Affairs could be merged... I'm confused into which one I'd put my observations of the ratification of the Beerschot Treaty involving the genetic manipulation of Sprouts and Onions into Sprunions, but I can live with that.
But most of all, will any of this get me a shag?

They may not have got it spot on first time, but how about giving a bit of a chance to see how it beds in and let people have an opportunity to use each of the new forums as they are intended?
Only then will we know if we have the right mix of forums and what may need tweeking.

Absolutely Mal... just seems a bit of duplication on a couple.
I'll stick my neck out and say that I like the introduction thread - I think that's a cool idea but then it's tried and tested on other sites.
Be interesting to see how it goes.
I agree, Nola. We actually need the constructive comments about this so that the fine tuning can make it what works for the majority. Rants saying it's shit don't help in any way, shape or form.

Oh Ok! I know you can perform miracles on here but the impossible is another thing...
I'll settle for the Candy Floss machine, we can make some interesting mankini's with them...

Now I'm confused blink
It's good to see some new forums but won't having so many have a detrimental effect on the Cafe as a whole ? dunno

I agree. I think there are too many now.
I like the idea of a few more than we had but....think it could get too many, and too many changes is not always a good thing.
Too early to comment on the number of fora so far.
But one idea - is it possible for the originator to set a time-out period on a thread? For ones in the LMU like "Free this Saturday in Oldham". It may be a bit pointless it carrying on for days afterwards. An auto-lock of some kind would allow it to drop away from the first pages quite quickly - leaving room for more recent postings.
This would be most appropriate for personal meets of course - socials often have a post-social discussion.
don't like it... it's all too much, and doesn't feel inclusive.
though that is simply an impression formed from looking at the Index.
too thin
lp
I think the idea of seperating the forums is a good idea and did a thread about this months ago.
Obviously there are some forums that could be merged into one another... but surely it is better to have this than people saying that a certain thread belongs in a different forum and then having to make more or move them.
On the subject of moving the threads themselves, is there going to be more of what has already been done... namely the moving of some threads into the new specific forum? there are obiously threads in the cafe that should be moved now.
I think that when this happens, peoples views on seperation could change.
It is certainly early days, and many changes have been accepted in the past which were initially met with concern - however - I feel it has resulted in the forum being too fragmented.
I feel we have lost the sense of cohesion we had when there were just 4 forums, and I am quite confused about where new threads should go.
I don't feel comfortable flicking between all the different forums, it makes me feel a bit nauseous, tbh.
I like it.
I know where I can stay out of. I know where I want to go.
Firstly, I feel for the Mods who are going to be moving stuff from one place to the next while everyone's lost lol
Secondly, constructive suggestion (I hope!) Could we have one forum for Munches, Parties and Socials and another for "Other" Meets? Perhaps make room for them by merging the soapbox and current affairs.
I'm a bit confused what the difference is between the Soapbox and Cafe going off the descriptions on the Main Menu, and going by the names, Current Affairs and Soapbox appear to be the same thing. Maybe one forum for ranting/serious discussion (Soapbox) and another for "anything else" (Cafe)
I guess there's potential, but I do think it's a little confuddling at the moment - but then, it never takes much to confuse me :lol2:
I've never personally been a fan of a separate place for newbie introductions, but that's my opinion and I know a lot of sites do have a separate forum and a lot of people like it that way.
As long as Admin are open to tweaking and changing things, I'll not be complaining too much, despite being a bit confused right now :silly:
Chatting with a friend on MSN, she (very rightly) mentioned the fact that the swinging forum is fifth on the list.
Shouldnt that be at the top, bearing in mind it is meant to be a swinging site?

Don't be daft, that would be just tooo obvious rolleyes :lol2:
Too obvious, or not to the thinking of a company looking to maximise investment in this site?

you make the allegation as if its inappropriate to try and make profit or increase value in a business venture.
is it?

No, far from it.
What my personal feeling is, that the site was bought by a company, with the decision makers not really having any interest in swinging, but look to buy a website which had a ready made community, and looking to take on sites like Faceparty, and more importantly, Facebook.
Swinging will not earn them the money they have invested and more, definitely not from the small community they 'inherited', so the only way to do it, is to attract the masses, by whatever means, and if that means going after the populous vote, then so be it.
Swinging, and the concept of, IMO, is secondary in their thinking.

No but what is wrong is when is when focus is taken away from what the site is actually meant to be about, what it's purpose is. The Forum had actually got back onto an even keel finally, there were good threads in the Cafe, sexy, relevant threads as well as the good old fun ones and the more generalist threads. It was fun and dare I say it, I think it even made some people who have not posted in a while think that it was time to come back as it was enjoyable again. New posters were appearing and it was 'just right'
Then suddenly a stickied thread appears on the 14th April asking what we want in the forum. I think there were about 4 posts before it was announced that we were getting 'this' What was the point in even asking? It had clearly all been decided and it was a done and dusted decision! On what basis was that decision made? I don't think it was based on the opinions of forumites. I do not recall anything being asked in the surveys or whatever that we had a little while back. Feedback from those surveys conveyed clearly that we 'forumites' are in the minority as the other so called 'three quarters of a million members'..... are all non forum users and so what good does it do them to change and split everything up and make it all so 'head spinningly' divided?
None whatsoever... I would love to hear the reasoning behind why the owners have chosen to do this if it is not for commercial gain and nothing to do with building a better swinging community?
To be fair, over the last few months every time there is an abusive political thread there are a few people who call for extra sections in the forum.
But why it has been split into so many sections is possibly down to the fact that they know very well that it will cause a fuss and then when they cut it down (probably to the number of sections they had wanted in the first place) it`ll look like they listen to what people are saying.
That way, when anybody complains in the future they can hold up their hands in an exasperated manner and say
"But, we did what you wanted" wink
Are they really that sneaky?
After an interesting 24 hrs or so... im begining ( i think)to see the idea behind whats "suitable/appropriate thread content" for each different section...
sort of......confused :? :? :? :? :?
me thinks some merging is going to have to take place wink
oh, I think there is going to be some merging around here.
I have no problem with hundreds of categories and thousands of sub categories.
It all matters not a jot if:
The search and retrieval systems are not improved significantly.
The forums continue to be relatively inactive.
To address the first issue I suggest a member of the admin team pops into an established invision free board and makes a note of the search and retrieval facilities with a view to achieving a similar level of functionality.
To address the second issue I would suggest that forum posts are actively moderated with a view to ensuring the AUP and T&C are adhered to. If necessary these protocols should be refined.

It does feel a little bit like divide and conquer... and it does feel like the heart is being ripped out of the cafe.....
having gone thru them... I think you have overdone it on the amount of forums.... some of them blantantly overlap....
If regular forum users are having trouble working out where things go, then what are new people going to do... I think you have created more work for the mods (who i really don't envy at the momnet)
actually the interesting thing I found is that where you sent out a questionaire with regards to the layouts and changes with the chatroom..... we weren't afforded the same curtosy with regards to the forum...

Maybe because the chatrooms are more of a draw than forums?

We took the more direct approach, one of the reasons that this thread was started by Mal, not much point having a questionaire for the whole site.
I can see that some changes are needed, but I think it needs to run for a little bit longer to get more feedback before we start tweaking to let the novelty factor wear off.
