Ok,just a little winge lol
Ive noticed lately how many newbie posts there are and while im up for newbies introducing themselves is there not a better system that could be used? dunno
Perhaps a stickie for newbies to introduce themselves and then everyone can go on there to say hello to them? wave
Just an idea,it'd be easier from a personal point of view to pop into one thread to have a look rather than loads of threads which I stopped looking at ages ago.
Before anyone says it,Im not newbie bashing either! biggrin
well Clare, as a newbie myself - i think its a good idea biggrin
I can see the benefit of this.... but what about the newbies who didn't see or bother to post in the sticky and still posted their welcome on the board? Would they be deemed to have broken a rule (as the people who know post anywhere except in the webcam sticky do)? It would seem rather mean to delete any welcomes that weren't in the sticky, but if welcomes were still allowed on the board what would be the point of having the sticky at all???
should you shouldent difficult one blue !
how about a stciky which has the list of new members for the past 24 hours ?
hi just signed up so guess i'm a newbie (on here at least)...so "hi" to all you sexpots,...hoping the fun starts soon...lol, dave.x.

... And who'd sit and write that list????
I can see the point of a newbie stick. poke but I dont think there is a justification to sticky all the posts together in one thread.
These posts rarely last much longer than a day anyway.
The welcome threads are just another part of forum life, like the continuing cycle of some other threads
Wouldnt this have been better here?

wink lol
As most threads from newbies introducing themselves are titled something like another newbie/hello from a newbie it is clear what they are and if you think they clog the board or don't like them just ignore them...
I like the idea of Newbies starting their own intro threads. It gives them a platform to dive in from, and gives us an idea of the person/s. Mixing them all up on the same thread would lesson their impact. smile

I suggested this ages ago and I was told off!! but I still think it's a very good idea.

Yes you did and yes you were.
Much as it seems like a nice idea for those of us who have been here a wee while, and instantly forget what it is like to be new and therefore hate all "hello" threads, it is nice for noobs to have something to post, all be it "Hi, I'm new"
Everyone wants to make a first post and in doing a "hi" thread, it stops them making a complete twat of themselves in another way, like starting a "Shaved or not" thread or making an inapropriate answer to another thread, where they might not have yet gleaned what the magority consensus it. (See recent TS/TG comments).
I think it works as it is. As has been said, it also gives us an opportunity to see the brilliant persona of the noob shine through. Or not.
It ain't broke...
good point vix cool its so easy to get it wrong mad if you dont get how the general flow if things is
A stickie or sticky? I'm in trouble with my name already lol
Throw my weight (yes I know there is a lot of it, I am dieting honest ;) ) behind new user posts rather than a sticky. They can sink or swim based on how well they introduce themselves, and if they become a regular they are a wonderful bit of oo look here is your first post blackmail ;)
I think restricting them as Blue commented runs the risk of making it even harder to feel welcomed in at a time when we done a lot of introspection on the whole SH experience. I must admit to avoiding most 'hi I am new' threads, but this is not as they annoy me, it just a time thing. If I have it I read and reply smile
Maybe we could add some automatic NEW marker for newbe posts, make us all aware this one of this persons first posts and give em time to settle in. Say the first 2 or 3 threads started get a little L plate icon? Or if you a dedicated newbe avoider then chance to ignore said threads?
