Listening to a debate on the radio yesterday where an elderly couple said that IF bird flu gets into human population and IF a pandemic arises and IF there is not enough vaccine to go round, then they thought that preference should be given to the young and those in work, with the elderly at the back of the queue for vaccine.
Quite a debate occured with both sides of the argument represented.
It got me thinking however, that if there were VERY limited supplies of vaccine then obviously the essential workers, such as Doctors, Nurses, Police, Electricity supply workers, Water board workers, Gas supply workers would have to be first on the list, just to keep society going.
Appears to me that if those are the essential workers then on the other hand people like footballers, models, singers, media people etc would be at the bottom of the list. Why is it then that the least essential get paid the most in todays society?

Um................because idiots like us..............yes I'm guilty of the football thing...........are looking for heroes I suppose. We are so desperate for anything that takes us away from our boring, everyday lives that we are willing to believe that these people are special.
From what I am told the company are limiting pruduction because of there other products running low.
That seems to be the reason.

This is just a tiny little rant. But if i strikes a chord then so be it.
My poor man is a bit ill so I did him a chicken yesterday, cooled it in the fridge overnight and took it to him this morning. By the way - this is the third weekend I've spent alone and I don't like it.
On the way I stopped to talk to a shopkeeper I know slightly. She was washing her shop window. I didn't want to stop so said something like I wouldn't keep her from her work but she did want to talk. Somebody had thrown discarded take away food at her window and she was washing it off. She pointed out to me that somebody had also uprooted a nearby litter bin.
Apparently these bins are not too difficult to uproot. They are made a bit delicate so that if you drive into it, it falls over so that your car, and you, are not damaged. But it allows vandals to have a go at them.
Carrying on up the road there are two or three small terraces of rather nice houses. Too expensive for me but, by conincidence I suppose, three or four of them are for sale. All the "For Sale" signs had been unprooted or damaged.
Now what I want to know is why people - presumably young people - do these things.
It has been said to me that I'm getting older and that older people have always said that the young are badly behaved. I don't believe this. In the 26 years I have lived here I have seen more and more shops feeling the need to put up shutters. If behaviour was getting no worse then business people would not go to the expense of fitting these shutters. Probably not cheap.
So I thought I'd ask any youngish people here why it goes on. Then I thought that anybody intelligent enough to be here isn't going to be doing that sort of vandalism anyway.
Just a little rant.

I'm only 22, and I have never taken part in any acts of vandalism. Its not always young people that do things like this, where I live I've heard of people in the 30-40yo age bracket that have smashed car windows etc. Anyone, young or old, is capable of vandalism, but I think most of it is fuelled by alcohol.
I understand the rant totally!
Where I live it is the youngsters, they have been caught doing it on many occasions but they are still wandering the streets destroying everything. The culprits are mainly under 12 incidentally, though there is a largish group of 15-17 year olds who have recently been seen smashing car windows. There is hardly a bus stop round here without broken glass, all the telephone boxes are broken (phones and windows) all the shops have shutters and there are always several piles of burnt our rubbish such as shopping trolleys or old sofas around. I live in quite an affluent town, though it does have its more difficult areas but it doesn’t seem to matter what type of people live there, this type of vandalism is all around. It’s especially bad during the school holidays.
When I was 7 and my mum married the idiot, I was left to my own devices and used to do a bit of vandalism, throwing eggs at windows or smashing windows. Pretty much grew out of it by the age of 11 or 12 though.
So, from personal experience, it's parents who let their kids do what the hell they want that are to blame. I reckon that if caught, the culprits should have their homes smashed up a bit.
Actually I hadn't joined just to have a moan - but here's another moan - how come the topic was locked giving me no chance to reply. I have only been a member of photo ads since October as a single but a member for nearly a year as a couple.
nigep, I think that what Kit and Jags are trying to point out is that what has happened to you can and does happen to many others as well........... It's just the way it goes sometimes.
Instead of relying just on the ads, try sticking around and getting to know people.... you may find you then get invited to munches and then who knows what may develop for you.
So for now stop worrying about it (read moaning) and just chill a bit
