In my experience, children from other cultures, love the Christmas thing. I have seen Father Christmas nearly knocked off his feet by asian heritage children whilst non asian, christian children almost ignored him!!!!
In todays multi cultural society children need to learn that we are all different. One way they learn to accept and understand other faiths is to particpate in other religions celebrations
To deny this opportunity to children is to store up trouble and breed racial hatred for the future.
can you remamber that they had to change the noddy books because big ears used to sleep with noddy!......................... now that did get me bloody mad mad :x
As far as I remember, the Fat Controller was always Sir Topham Hat, I still have the books somewhere.... Just that his nickname isn't referred to now. All this political correctness is a load of big dog's cock, I will never comply.
Rick!
This is all about equality for everyone...and I guess it is working...by the time they have finished we will not be able to do anything...and we will all be equally left with no fookin choices!!

Can understand why they stopped using the Robinsons Golliwog
I guess that could be offensive

But when they stopped using the golliwog.. the highest number of compaints about it being withdrawn came from the black community, who were more offended by the fact these people had felt the need to remove it. rolleyes
I think they may have reinstated it on the marmalade and jam, not sure but I think I have seen it.

Didnt know that. I suppose the problem with Pc is that those that say something is offensive might not actually part of the group that they think it may offend. Like I just did!!
Quickly someone run to the supermarket to chek for the Golliwog.
Report back soon, otherwise we will send out sarge and his troop too search for you.

Good point, did anyone actually ask any black people if they were offended or did they just assume?

All politically incorrect words and phrases should now be changed to the following:
Dirty Old Man: Sexually focused chronologically gifted individual.
Perverted: Sexually dysfunctional.
Serial Killer: Person with difficult-to-meet needs.
Lazy: Motivationally deficient.
Fat: Horizontally challenged.
Dwarf: Vertically challenged
Fail: Achieve a deficiency.
Dishonest: Ethically disoriented.
Bald: Follicularly challenged.
Clumsy: Uniquely coordinated.
Body Odor: Nondiscretionary fragrance.
Alive: Temporarily metabolically abled.
Worst: Least best.
Wrong: Differently logical.
Ugly: Cosmetically different.
Unemployed: Involuntarily leisured.
Dead: Living impaired.
Vagrant: Nonspecifically destinationed individual.
Drunk: Chemically inconvenienced.
Pregnant: Parasitically oppressed.
Ignorant: Knowledge-based non-possessor.

I like this - Im Horizontally Challenged and sometimes Chemically inconvenienced.
I very much doubt anyone has consulted any of these racial or religious communities as to their opinions on 'nativity plays' or whatever. No, all this PC bollox is thought up by white liberal academics and those 'trying' to prove how culturally sensitive they are. It's all self-congratulatory point scoring and a load of wank!
Here in Leicester the asian hindu community appreciate and enjoy the xmas season as much as anyone else. Nativity plays are a part of our cultural heritage and there is absoloutly no reason why these should offend anybody with different beliefs. In fact in Islamic tradition Jesus is recognised as a prophet, so therefore why would anyone from that tradition alone be offened by the birth of a religious leader who is revered in the Quran.

Is now called Sir Top and Hat!!! because you cant call him "Fat". BUT HE IS!!!!!!!!! mad
Thats right up there with.... "you shouldnt put up Xmas displays in the Nursery this year because it's not fair to the cultures who dont celebrate it" FECK OFF!! other cultures shouldnt come to this country if they dont want to celebrate our culture - i'd celebrate Diwali if i went to a country that celebrated it, i'd celebrate Thanksgiving if i went to America.............. its bloody ridiculous whats going on in education these days!!!! :x :x :x

What a pity the message of tolerance and GOODWILL to ALL men gets lost at xmas!!!!!!!
FFS!

Are you saying its not a valid point??? yes, i agree with the mulit culture thing, yes i agree with equal oppurtunites, but why shouldnt the people of britain celebrate something because it may offend someone who doesnt celebrate it?? thats like asking a jew not to celebrate a bar mitzvah because it may offend someone who doesnt celebrate it. regardless of where or WHO you are, NOBODY has the right to tell you not to celebrate something thats happens in your culture. my point is, that people CHOOSE to come and live in this country, therefore they should be prepared to celebrate the festivals that go on here. Never mind goodwill to all men when the people who were born here in britain are being told not to teach their children about christmas because it might offend other cultures!! thats just bollox.

Lou .. with everything that has been said about polictical correctess I totally agree (i don't like do-gooders changing things) .. but surely Christmas is a time for peace and goodwill and the statement you made does not portray this at all. If I was one of the ethnic minorities I would after reading that statement be pretty disgusted! It's extremely racist.
People do not necessarily choose to come and live in this country and those that don't often try very hard to hang on to their own cultures because that is what is important to them.
Christmas is a modern invention ... before christians were in England, this time of year was still a festival - Saturnalia (I forget it's pagan name winterfest???) I don't see you fighting for the right to promote that and yet that is our heritage and part of our past culture! Instead we teach incorrect facts to our children ... ie christ's birth - I'm sorry but that's not culture it's falsety and I would prefer my children weren't lied to. They know about the nativity, they understand about the message but they also understand were trees and cards came from (victorian and pagan roots) that the time of year is not connected to Christ's birth etc.
I do agree that political correctness is annoying but if it wasn't for racism and people's arrogant attitudes then we wouldn't need it would we?
Calista, you have a PM. i'm not being racist, although thay is how it may have come across. my point is simply this...... we are expected to respect other cultures and festivals, and yet we are not entitled to celebrate our own in an educational establishment for fear of offending other cultures! surely this is racist towards our culture?? dunno

Right - i just want to apologise for any offence this comment has caused, the whole feck off thing was a bit strong for the point i was trying to make. i'm not going to edit the original post to make it look better, i've made a mistake and i can accept that. i just want to apologise to anybody who may have felt that this was a racist or uncalled for comment. i am not backing down on the POINT of this thread, and my views stick, however the whole "Feck off" thing was NOT the right way to voice my issue.
So, Calista hun kiss to you, and anyone else who was unhappy at this comment but didnt voice it.

Let's be clear, political correctness was never the baby of the white liberal tendency. Rather it was, and continues to be, a construct fabricated by the right-wing facist (racist, homophobic etc) types who love tabloid tale-telling about 'people over here, who don't belomg'. i was really dismayed to read some of the messages, because up to now I have found the threads very interesting and I have been impressed at the high standard and quality of contributions. The term 'golliwog' is offensive to black people (there's been a lot of research done over the years and the Commission for Racial Equality would be more than happy to provide anyone interested with this information). Racial hatred has been incited on very many occasions with the use of "Wog" being repeated in a derogatory manner - the same going for "Pakis" etc. This is why 'Golly' was substituted on its own. As for celebrating Christmas, my own personal experience in both white-dominated rural areas, as well as in the inner city, is that it still happens, with the participation of children from different cultures and faiths. I was at a nativity play only last week, and was delighted to see how enthusiastic the kids were, regardless of what religion they adhered to. If you can embrace the multi-faith, multi-cultural world and its richness that we live in. then yes, a chance for peace and goodwill!! (I'm not a vicar, by the way - more of a tart!) biggrin
