Over-Regulated

Does anyone find SH a bit over regulated these days? There seem to be so many rules, rules rules. Part of this has come with the change over, but there do seem to be lots of restrictions everywhere. I don't mean restrictions about the obvious things... people behaving very badly, perhaps even criminally, but the smaller things.
Are people generally happy with the rules, is there a rule you hate? I imagine that most people are quite happy with the rules and it is just the hidden rebel in me that is getting fed up.
I should point out I do like the site, but someitmes I feel that I need to bring a legal team with me before I post or do anything. OK, I am exagerating here. I used to work in regulation, so I am familiar with the imposing of rules, and defending them. This might be perhaps why I find them oppressive myself biggrin
I have wondered what SH would be like if the rule book was thrown away for a few days and we were all allowed to do what we like, (within the law and without harassing people).
Please feel free to reply to this even if you are not a regular poster.
I haven't posted in such a long time and haven't followed the forum, so I hope this does not cause any upset. Please just delete this message if it is innappropriate.
I prefer to know where I stand and what the rules are. I wasn't 'here' before the takeover so I can't comment on before/after.
I don't feel I'm restricted personally.
Kiss Me, you look rather restricted in that bra though (in your avatar)!!!
Just teasing!
I can't think of a lot of major changes that have been made since the change over.
Maybe they're just more apparent as they have to be enforced more often i.e. More members = more muppets.
Do you have any specific examples?
Rules
Would that be 6" or a 12" one??

The only rules that have been amended are the chatroom rules and that's only because they now have to incorporate rules regarding cams dunno
The rules are there for everyone's safety and comfort wink
Seems fine to me, though I don't know what it was like before dunno

How about throwing away your rule book for a while and meeting with a single guy..??
CC..... wink
As an example then...one rule I don't like is chatrooms being closed because the person that created the room isn't there. We tried going on the chatrooms one Saturday night and the rooms were being closed all over the place. Now I understand the rule, but as an example, it is one rule that personally, I feel is a case of over regulation. I've just picked this as an example, most people probably support this rule. I could go on and on, but I don't want this to become a rant.
I just wanted really to see if anyone felt the same way.
I want this ot be a constructive post, I don't want anyone to feel that I am taking a pop at their good work.
No Freckle Bird, I was asked by a previous poster to give an example. I could have picked one about the Forum, but I am too chicken lol !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought this was a good rule, a none moderated room is just asking for all sorts of trouble.
The only rule i honestly don't like on this site is.....
The rule that you can only have the people on your cam in the chatroom that are on the account.
I have a g/f and the 3 of us often play but not allowed to on cam as my g/f ain't registered on this site, She ain't a swinger as such so feels it would be wrong to register here.
I think it would be better if the rule was..... no third parties are allowed on cam unless the account holder was there also biggrin
The rules are there for good reason and keep the site running quite smoothly but there will always be a rule somewhere that someone don't like or don't agree with, not everyone can be pleased at the same time on a site this large so you just have to live with it :D

Why too chicken? You've the right to say what you want as long as it's within AUP.
I don't agree with you, but the thing about opinions is that they are all different but equally valid.

Do you think we should let a chatroom run with no-one there to enforce the rules instead then ? Or do you think one of us Ops should sit in there when there are countless other rooms that have to be checked at the same time ?
If a host leaves a room after a few hours to go out/to bed/to work etc then that room can and usually does descend into chaos as the users in there- with no regard for the rules and guidlines set up for the benefit of the 'decent' users- start with the abuse, the directing, the trolling etc.. We don't expect the room creators to sit in there until everyone leaves but a room with no-one holding the buttons has to close. We usually ask another member in the room at the time to open a new room and wait for the users to make their ways there before closing a room.
As well as this there are the wind-up rooms that are created by numpties with titles like " Live show in 5 mins", when they have no intention of putting on a show but just sit back and watch frustrated members wondering what is going on, or just fleeing the room altogether.
I don't see how closing rooms with no creator can be seen as over-regulation dunno

Thanks for the comments Shaz, and to everyone else who replied. Yes I never understood that one.
Thanks for letting me have a little moan everyone.
I remember when the mods went on strike for a couple of days, maybe a week or so... it was awful.... truely awful.
The amount of threads that were normally pulled without the forumites even seeing the complete and utter rubbish, one word threads, posts that were offensive, rude and general dross, it was an eye opener for me.
While sometimes I think some mods can be heavy handed with folk at times... I just wonder what is going on in their personal lives that's making them so short tempered or offhand with people. They have lives too and the rules are there to protect the membership from those who are just coming to stir trouble or create havock. The one rule I don't like much is the no-leeway on socials. People coming have to be a member here in order to come. I understand why it happened and it did need to happen... but it gets in the way of some of my fun sometimes... so thats why I personally don't like it much. I'm not keen on the PG censorship of photos on the forums... I have the veiw it is an adult 18+ rated site. But I can live with both of those rules without much irritance... so, I guess I'm not really that bothered by any of the rules.
I do think simple explanations at the time of moderation would cut a lot of the confusion and threads that pop up saying where has my thread gone? etc... Doesn't take too long to PM the person saying;
"I mod have deleted / moved / quarentined your thread. You have broken xxxxx rule. Please read the rules here.... URL link to the aup."

This rule wasnt here before the changes last year, as we didnt have multiple chat rooms, just the one dunno
Though i wonder on the consistency at times the rules protect evryone and i'm sure most rules are bought in to close problems that have arisen in the past whatever part of the site we use.

But I do remember when we didn't have so many MOD's not so long back and it was hard work sfor the few we had to keep up after all they all have their own lives away from here. There was AUP breaking posts all over the place mainly in LMU though as I beleave a lot of forum users have a tendency to show the way to those that get it wrong in the cafe.
One such AUP breaking post that springs to mind was the one in dogging where some numpty posted an excact location complete with a map, directions and a photo of a local land mark  and it sat there for quite some time because no one was around to remove it.

Thanks for the reply Bi Minx and for giving the view from a Chatroom Operators experience. I am sure you have seen a lot os mischief.
I think my experience regarding chatrooms is influenced by the chatting I used to do years ago in the early days of the net using software, like the software that used to power the old SH chatroom. I loved the freedom of those rooms. Of course there was a downside as there is through out the freedom of the Internet.
One point I could make though is that just because the person that created the room is present, it doesn't necessarily mean that they will be policing it. They might not even be watching the screen. I can see though, that making sure that the room creator present is damage limitation.
I thought this one was a good example of over regulation, as on that Saturday we eventually gave up. Maybe we were just unlucky but a lot of the rooms we visited were closed after a bit and we couldn't get a conversation going. The chatroom operators were very decent when closing the rooms and gave plenty of warning. It was done with care.
My original point was more though about the quantity of rules and my curiousity as to whether things really would be that wild if they were trimmed a bit.

Thanks Gem, I can see the logic in this. Damn I missed the strike. That will teach me to not keep an eye on the Forums.

Thats the way the rules are - you MUST NOT allow someone else to use your account on their own - by giving them your username/password details etc. or logging on and allowing them to access the site using your account, but you may allow them on your cam as long as you are present AND they consent to being shown, AND they consent to abide by the rules.
But, in this case, I wonder why a non-swinger would be interested in going on cam on a swingers chat room considering she finds it would be wrong for her to register dunno
As far as I am aware the only Forum rule which has changed is the one about posting of nudity pics on the open forums. Genital shots have never been allowed as avatars (well, not be allowed since I joined the site) and a change was made to stop them being posted in posts in the forums.
I cant think of any other new rules, but I do also know that a few rules have also been dropped.
As for over modding, I dont really want to comment, as it would be a biased view, but interested to see what others think.

I remember advocating the same thing - maybe even using a mod button drop-down menu - many moons ago, to no avail.
That said there is at least one mod on here, who takes the trouble to explain 'why'. Makes so much sense. It means the 'offender' is less likely to do the same thing next time and if they do then you know they're trolling and can join the fast exit queue.

I have said it before, but I do find the site oddly restrictive. I understand your comment about feeling like you need a Legal team in the Forum sometimes. wink
Whether it’s something to do with my dislike of rules mongering, or just a real or imagined misunderstanding of the rules and how they work on my part, I don’t know.
However, throwing ALL the rules away is never a good idea, people will self regulate up to a point, but after that it just becomes chaotic.
It’s been far too long since you stopped posting btw, I have missed perving your avatar.
