Just a couple of quickies before i run to the airport smile
all the kids here run them like there own little stalls..... they have been out for the last two weeks and accosting everyone who goes past for money....
I don't remember starting that young when we were kids...
My answer to everyone is that I get halloween out of the way first.... rather than giving money out twice a day for the best part of a month....
then all i get is a mouthful of abuse from gobby 12 yr olds smoking fags and drinking cider!!!!
and i actually feel guilty.... soft shite i am......

I have one very simple response to "Trick or treat" or "Penny for the Guy".
"Why?"
Stunned silence. smile
Or if I'm in a particularly evil mood, I actually give them a penny.
Nah....your not a scrooge, i dont give anything to the scrounging little so and so's; wouldn't be half bad if they had put some effort into making the thing in the first place and then brought the well made guy out in November, NOT September thru to NOV............sheesh
sorry.....off me soap box now mad

and take the guy!
I saw some kids collecting "Penny for the Guy" the other day but they didn't have a guy!
They said they needed the money first before they could make one!
I think they're the same kids who start carol singing around November 6th
I don't particularly mind penny for the guy in the week or so before bonfire night, but only if they've made a guy and are reasonably polite. I never did it myself, though I do remember a number of guys being consigned to the bonfire over the years, several of actually being Maggie Thatcher in effigy.
It's a pity we don't live anywhere with enough room for a bonfire, as I quite fancy the idea of burning Blair and Bush in effigy.
If the kids make the effort to make a proper guy and they are polite I'd give them some money......but we just don't see that much now!........
i agree it pisses me off, round here they even knock on your door asking for penny for the guy when they havn't even got one or have a kid with a mask on, they have been trick ot treating round here for a few weeks now, its not even our bloody holiday, excuse me did someone move me to the states while i was asleep? they usually start with the carol singing mid november, takes the piss :lol2:
I always give them money as I used to do it as a kid. Although we were never abusive like some are today, but that's the way society in general is going. biggrin
never give them anything! Most of them only spend it on fags, booze etc. mad Or am I too cynical.?
Only give to carol singers that actually sing a song instaed ofthe first line or just stand there with their hands out. I like to think they've actualy done something for the money.
I will not give money, nor 'celebrate' the public execution, of a fairly minor player in the attempted distruction of a corrupt Government.
Killing a Catholic, mainly because of his religion, is not a celebratory event, IMHO.
Dont mind giving a small donation if they are polite and have made an effort......its the ones that demand it from you that p**s me off

This is an interesting point of view,Vix.
Shamefully,I grew up with the belief that we celebrated Guy Fawkes because he attempted to blow up parliament, not because he was thwarted...I was in my mid-teens when I found out the real reason for the tradition and was suitably horrified...but then decided that my ignorant childhood belief was a far more valid reason to celebrate!...LOL
I don't allow my children to beg for money or sweets, letting your offspring intimidate the neighbourhood into handing goodies over, however innocent and lacking in guile they may be,sends out a powerful psychological message that I'd rather they didn't heed.....they're mullish enough within the homestead as it is!
I don't give money to the kids without guys either, especially if they knock at the door.....I am a sucker for the tots at Halloween though and always make an effort to dress up and decorate the house,as much for my two as the the callers though.
So...the general consensus seems to be,FG....that you should carry on regardless and definitely guilt-free....you big sap! wink

Nope I wont give to Penny for the guy as it encourages the little so and so's to try to purchase weapons (having seen the said little baskets over the years throwing the bangers at animals and other kids. It also encourages them to break the law as they should not have the bloody things anyway.
Just my opinion
Steph biggrin
In really happy mood

You should be happier now. Bangers were banned from over-the-counter sales years ago. Can still buy them in France, though.
xxx
I suppose there still available via the internet as well
You tight Gits!! mad :x
I give them the contents of my wallet, the keys to my car and let them know I have left my back door open at home so that they can nip round and have whatever they want from there too.
Children are our future!

The little Bastards!!!
