OK! how do you percieve other members to look like by what they have written and the nickname they have chosen? If that makes sense.
well clearly Mr FC you bend well at the kness.... you keep your thumbs in the lapels ( when mrs FC is not demanding their attention.... short hair, tall ,prob reasonably fit.... stops at Mcdonalds for complimentary bacon roll in the AM... a drinker of allsorts, and happy to comply with whatever Mrs FC demands.... even if that means dragging yourself away from the pleasures of Alex!!!!
how did I do?

In my experience it's impossible not to form a mental picture; that seems to be a deep psychological need. And that mental picture is almost guaranteed to be wrong.
In my professional life I speak to many people on a regular basis, and have developed telephone relationships with remote colleagues that could almost be classed as friendship, but when I occasionally meet some of those people they are usually not remotely as I imagined they would be.
I've also met literally hundreds of people through chat rooms and forums, usually in large community meets, and again, they tend to be nothing like what I imagined.
Here's an example to illustrate the voice thing:
George Clooney and Dennis Leary have exactly the same voice... they could pass for each other on the phone easily. But can you imagine two people who look less alike? I can't.

I've just been told I look 'too mature' from the advertisers I replied to. Is this a good thing? Obviously not, in that respect, but what about in others?
My teenage daughter stepped out of the back door yesterday to check if it was still raining. She put her arms out to the sides, bent at the elbow with the palms of he hands upwards. In a split second she was Kat. How do I reach that conclusion? Well she looked like this emoticon dunno and that always reminds me of Kat.

Mental note: Spending far too much time on this site !!!
I don't look anything like the way I think I come over here!!!

I spent about 7 hours on the web looking for an image to covert to an Avatar to convey my appearance, so there should be no probs here.

avitars are fun, and often tell a lot about someone. being different somedays is all about us. I change mine often because it is in my nature to be so. being the same thing every day is not for me. Besides if you are happy to be your avitar great, but lets have a mood thing....? Alex USED to be the most different with her avitars, I think she had a cd full at one time......!
Quite true Rocky!
Well most of them were me!
Anyway - I thought I would bring one back - Gman's favourite (specially after he linked me with Hattie Jacques in the names thread)
YARRGGHH
It STILL reminds me of the rugby on the telly at the weekend, is that the loose end prop or the flanker???
Still like the pussy shot ( with the gun....! )
LOL
Rocky
I wish I hadn't opened this thread now I am going to spend ages building up mental pictures of what everyone looks like!!!!Sad, but true.
Does my avatar look like me? Hell, I wish it did!
Yes, you build up mental pictures of people, often supplemented by what they have let slip about themselves, but I've met several people from SH socially - and I have never been disappointed. More often I've been delighted.

I can make you an avatar that looks like you no problem.
If you meant it the other way around I can assure you that you've no need to want to be anything other than you actually are. We wouldn't dream of changing you!

Years ago I was speaking to someone online & we arranged a meet to go for a drink & watch a band...I had already sent him a photo of me but he said he did not have one or no scanner or something but described himself as pretty good looking tall, dark etc etc. So I travelled all the way to Liverpool street station & waited at the agreed place...then I was tapped on the shoulder & turned around to see JOHN MERRICK standing there, a big grin on his somewhat wonky face...he really was UGLY & I was so stunned I think I dribbled or something..
Anyway we were walking towards the pub & I got a bit peeved coz if I was that deformed I would certainly tell someone so was frantically trying to think of an excuse to go without hurting his feelings too much...(see I am a nice girl).
Anyway I went to the loo, text my best mate & returned to my hot date !! Then my mobile went & my mate was shouting "you have to get home now. One of the dogs is really ill, yakking up & everything" so I made my excuses & fled ....
Superb...
But certainly put me on my guard with people now...I know people say looks aint everything but they are definately 'something'....
Jaine
Jaine looked forward to her next meet: "a 6' 5" James Bond-alike sex god - a devastating cross between Clint Eastwood, the young Sean Connery and the E.R. period George Clooney"
He couldn't wait either:-

It never ceases to amaze that people will misrepresent themselves knowing full well that a meeting will immediately expose the deception. It's all very well acting out some sort of fantasy online; that's just escapism and loads of people do it, but if the intention is to actually meet IRL, I see no point in doing anything other than presenting yourself exactly as you are and contact people who are interested in the real you.

OH MY GOD .... why did I send that photo!!!! smile

From what I have heard - your avatar, although beautiful, still does not do you justice!

Actually.....the perfect man would be a cross between Thom Yorke (mind) Ralph Fiennes (face & hands) Christopher Lambert (body in Legend of greystoke) Peter Kay (humour) Richard Branson (money). :P
Sean Connery/George Clooney - NO thanks ... :!:
Being new I am still building 'pictures' of people here, but a person is so much more than looks. I met someone after 2 years online chatting to them once, real shock to see them as they were nothing like I thought, being 5ft and me over 6ft 5. However as soon as we got talking it all came back. The shock vanished, a quick readjustment of the small part of the person I knew in the 'looks like dept' was all that was needed. You can learn more about people online than you think...
As to me, if you cant guess what I'm like, hehe... One thing though, I not covered in body hair, sorry to dash anyones images, but it all on my head.
:taz: <-- Note not this hairy ;)
Moist! When I sent you that photo of me I didn't intend you to post it here for everyone to see!
Oh dear. I'll never make any friends now. Back to my bell-tower...
Interesting what we find attractive and want to know before we meet someone. I love hands and really study them and how someone uses them so when sent pics that what I want to see. Best thing isnt looks it the richness in the voice and humour and intelligence.

Noticed last night at Munch your hands were in your pockets hiding them from me were you. wink Never got round to being introduced there so hi.

Corrie,
I'm so sorry I didn't get to say hello!! Where were you? I actually looked for you. My hands were in my pockets, probably, because they were blistered and full of hedging thorns. (and also, we Shropshire folk are so tight that we like to guard our loose change!)
A
